Watch Paul Burnette killing it on the Grabbertarian we built him. Stand and be judged!

Sunday, November 16, 2008
So for those of you who don't already know ISIS is back in the studio crafting their next album. We just sent a new prototype Utilitarian bass out to Jeff to use in the studio. This bass has some small differences that set it apart from the standard Utilitarian line. First and foremost is it's altered tuning of B,F sharp,B,E and use of GHS strings gauges .115", .095", .070", .050" this tuning and string combo complement each other really well and the bass feels very solid, the string tension feels similar to a normal tuned instrument. Another thing that sets this bass apart from the normal Utilitarian line is the custom wound Nordstrand MM and humbucking jazz pickups, and Aguilar 3-band preamp. The end result is a bass that cuts through the mix with authority and power. In the next month or so we'll show you the new signature bass with pics of all the pretty details. We look forward to hearing the fruits of ISIS's labor on this new album, and can't wait to see them on tour again. For those of you not familiar with ISIS, check them out at: www.myspace.com/sgnl05

Were in the process of helping our buddy Paul Burnette of the band Darkest Hour modify a Gibson Grabber bass to be part of his arsenal. Check out all the details and pics at www.sageguitars.blogspot.com/ and feel free to comment.

Boys and Girls

We're starting to make a move towards a new website. This is a long time in the making, we love our graphic designer Glenn Davis, and we've waited until his schedule opened up to proceed with this venture. The new website will be built for speed not for looks, i.e. we want an efficient template to show plenty of updates, and a stocked gallery of our design work as it evolves (the stuff in our gallery now is ancient, and it's driving me fucking crazy, pardon my French), not only for on-lookers, but for customers seeking inspiration for their own bass.

More to follow. Buy a bass (one of ours).

New 10 String In The Works
Current mood: creative

So the latest news from the Sage camp is that we will be undertaking a new 10 String bass for our friend Stew McKinsey. The last 10, The Burley Mammoth was a fun challenge. So far we're thinking 27 fret, 34" scale, Ash body core (top as of yet unknown), Rock Maple neck, Birdseye fingerboard, custom pickups, etc... So keep your eyes peeled and watch this puppy unfold.

If you're waiting on a new creation to come to completion, be it a Sage or otherwise (you fool) Ryan and I decided to give you something to do to occupy yourself. What can I say we just really care a lot.

Ask yourself this. What is your builder doing to help you pass the time?

Yeah I thought so,

Bro's

The latest thing here at the fort is PICKUPS! As many may know we've had an extremely good relationship with Aero pickups and its founder Larry Pollack over the years. Aero's have always been our go-to for top shelf quality pickups, pickups that let the voice of the bass be heard in a true fashion, without added coloration. in the past these pickups were only available as an upgrade, with an added cost. I'm happy to announce that Aero's will now be standard equipment on all Sage Basses! I've spent hours over the past several months discussing the design of our signature pickups and we've come up with a killer pickup that blends all the goodness of an heirloom vintage pickup wrapped in a modern package. The Sage Signature pickup will be based off a single coil design that earned Aero a "Top Tone" award from BASS PLAYER MAGAZINE, but with our own twist. They will be available with exposed or unexposed pole pieces, in wood or plastic covers. As always we will continue to offer Aero's amazing humbucking pickups as an upgrade. We're really happy to offer all of our customers a truly boutique component in our basses, it falls in line with our belief that only the best will do.

Also for all you who like to see what's behind the curtain we invite you to check out the Sage Guitars Blog at http://sageguitars.blogspot.com several posts happen every week and it's a way to get personal with us as people, musicians, and as a modern bass company. Post a comment on the blog and let us know if your feeling us.

OK ladies and gents check out the pics of the completed Utilitarian 4 & 5 strings we took to NAMM this year. After the show we went up north to Visit my buddy Jeff Caxide of the band ISIS and got the thumbs up, the dude was stoked with these basses. We also Just had Liam Wilson of Dillinger Escape Plan over to the shop and he too gave praise to them. If you're judged by the company you keep I guess we're doing ok.

To see all the photo's of these basses look in our Myspace photo album.

Comment's would be nice too.

OK kids it's that time of year again, NAMM '08. We decided since we have a 6 month back log of orders to not do a booth this year, it's kind of a boo hoo for us because we love the show, but the clients progress comes first (it take about 3 months of prep for these shows). However we will still be at the show, and will have a presence. We will have a 4-string Utilitarian bass at the Hipshot booth 5735 Hall B, also we'll have a Sunburst 5-string Utilitarian with a custom pickup ramp at the Aguilar booth 5270 Hall B, and if you want to hear some tight funk keep your eyes peeled for Theron Brison with his new SC-4 at the Pigtronics booth1241 Hall E or just tearing it up around the show. Hell I may even bring my own bass to the annual bass bash. It'll be nice to hang with our vendors, visit my friend Jaff Caxide in LA, and have a good time with our extended family. If you're at the show and would like to talk business or whatever feel free to call us 860-550-2552 or 860-983-6013 and we can hang at the show. We want to thank all our vendors for the great product they make, and the help they give us, "it's a celebration bitches"! I'm gonna post pics of the "progress" shots of what we'll have at NAMM in our photo area, you get to see the finished product at NAMM, or shorly after on the website www.sageguitars.com or in our Myspace pic section.

Peace and Word to all,
