Greetings friends and music lovers! I'm thrilled to announce that I'll be performing two great shows in New York in December, as a complement to my "Song Sweet Song" house concert wonder-tour. Both venues are fantastic, and offer the kind of warm and intimate concert setting from which my voice and music ever long to meet you.

I'm feeling very inspired as my solo performance continues to blossom to new colors and heights, and I look forward to sharing new material with you on these special nights. All from two beautiful pianos, in two beautiful rooms... Erik Lawrence elevates the music on December 4th, lending his phenomenal talents on saxophone and flute.

Please join me in breathing sweet life into these musical escapes!

Yours, truly I am,
danielle

NEW YORK CITY - Wed, Dec 16th 7pm
My shows at Caffe Vivaldi over the years have proven to be some of the most memorable and inspiring, thanks to the gorgeous piano and the calming, candle-lit good vibes that fill the air during the performance. It's ever a joy to invite friends and fans to enjoy the music here.

Come, let's raise a glass to the the new year amidst some Old New York charms, tucked away on Jones Street.

NYACK, NY - Friday, Dec 4th 8pm
This is a big concert for me, held in a stunning venue, in the wondrous village of Nyack, NY. This fantastic invitation to perform is also a touching one—it was extended to me on the spot by the Director of The Soiree Society of the Arts (a great org based in Nyack) upon hearing me live at a NYC house concert in October. Score one for the stars!

Nyack is located just about 20 miles north of Manhattan, on the west bank of the scenic Hudson River Valley. Below are the full details. I'll hope to see you there and many thanks for your help in spreading the word!

August 29, 2009 - Saturday

Friends, a hearty hello to all, and many thanks for lending your eyes and ears to this newsletter, which includes a big update, and a small request!

As some of you are aware, recently, I entered into an inspired partnership with the stars, in deciding to take a year-long sabbatical from my life and times as an independent artist in New York City. In simple, poetic terms, I've traded in the fast-paced hustle for a slow waltz with creativity. In candid, human terms, I've reached a bit of a crossroads on the earth-mobile, and have decided to live closer to nature for a while in order to refuel, recalibrate and recharge the ol' creative batteries. Sometimes, you just have to let go of everything, to see what you really want to hold on to. You know?

Evolution is eeeeeeeeeasy....

To kick off this thoughtful adventure, back in June, I placed my belongings into a concrete box, and have since taken up shop in the soft, sleepy south. While my pining for the city which never sleeps is eternally palpable, I must admit, with each setting sun, I'm growing more certain that the color and pace of life under an open sky is not only more conducive to experiencing creative growth, but to finding some much needed perspective on the career-shaping front.

EXHIBIT A:

This September, I am going to debut my very first blog (title TBA), where I plan to chronicle this time of great discovery. There, I'll offer the real-deal explanation as to why I've taken this slow-motion detour, and why I've chosen to share the ride with others, via the written word. I hope you'll take a gander at my missives, and perhaps find some insight, inspiration, or at least, entertainment, in the observations and ruminations I shall document in "real" time during this uncharted voyage. (occasional audio and video clips included.)

In the meantime, I do indeed have a small request, and I'm delighted to tell you that it's on the passionate music-making - and sharing - front!

In leaving the city for a while, I'm not only able to focus more thoughtfully on writing and developing songs, but on traveling, and sharing them with others. Having lowered my overhead by, er...9,000%, I'm now in a position to forgo the day gig and bring greater attention to booking shows. I'm excited to let you know that I've chosen to do just that, through one unique and meaningful listening experience, in particular.  Also known as...

Over the course of the next year, I will be performing house concerts exclusively, throughout the USA and Europe!

EXHIBIT B:

House concerts are incredible. They're also a time-honored tradition designed to bring music lovers up close and personal with artists and their expression, and vice versa. To learn more about my new "Song Sweet Song" house concert initiative, and to find out how you can host (yup!) one of these extraordinary events, click the image above or the link down below to my website, where I include the full skinny, along with a nifty 3-minute promo video. I'm also including below a link to some logistical info and concert hosting basics!

I've officially launched this "quiet" endeavor with some fantastic bookings, and am excited to build from there.  However, as coordinating concerts in people's homes involves...well, homes, and people who want to host concerts in them, I realize that I need to cast my booking net as wide as I can, to keep this sweet vision alive. And so, I am asking you, dear friends and soulful readers (if you've come this far, clearly, this is not lip service) for your help in connecting me to as many happy hosts a girl with a birdsong to share can find. And yes - this means YOU!

If you'd like join together with friends and experience a magical night of song in the comfort of your own home, flat, bungalow, tiki hut, farmhouse or log cabin, or if you know of someone who might, drop me a line anytime at: info@daniellegasparro.com. I'd love to hear from you. And, sing for you!

The regions/dates I am now booking within the US are (generally) as follows:
SEPTEMBER: Southeast
OCTOBER: Northeast
NOVEMBER: West and
North West
DECEMBER 2009 - FEBRUARY 2010: Anywhere!
European concerts to be scheduled March - April 2010.

Well...there you have it. A big update and a small request. Infinite thanks to all of you for bringing your attention to both! I'll be in touch again soon with the latest skinny from the Sleepy South HQ, including info on my upcoming blog. Until then, be well and keep rockin' your birdsongs, you melodious beings you!

And now back to our regularly scheduled open sky. Which I gladly offer each of you, a little dose of. :)

May 27, 2009 - Wednesday
Ciao, friends.

First up - a warm thank you to any and all who have come out to Vivaldi this month to share in the great vibes of the venue, and to support me and the music. What a blast it's been to escape the dust of the outer world for a while, all via song, all before the sun goes down... Who knew!

For those of you who can come out tonight and share in said good vibes, I'll be singing and playing with very special guests Raphael McGregor (lap steel) & Erik Lawrence (sax/flute). And, YOU! (good vibe generator)

As a reminder, this is indeed the last week of what has been a truly fantastical monthlong residency. I've grown exponentially, as both a musican and inspired, foolish mortal, and the music, well...it is flourishing. It's been a genuine, priceless honor to have the support of the venue, the audience, and some of my generous, brilliant musical friends, in order to make that happen.

Hope to see you this week...please come down and join us if you can. Life is short, let's savor it together, over song.

All my thanks,
danielle

May 2, 2009 - Saturday
Friends and music lovers,

I'm thrilled to let you know about a wonderful residency I'm performing throughout the month of May, in NYC. Please see below for the full details on this lovely musical affair. Caffe Vivaldi is a warm and intimate listening room, with fantastic vibes.

The residency "officially" begins on Tuesday May 5th, but I quietly kicked things off a few nights ago. Both shows were really great, at once a blend of thoughtful and spirited fun. (partly because they were well-attended - thank you to all who "quietly" came out!) Though I've honestly not been ready to take on this kind of musical adventure until now, it was so much fun that I actually found myself thinking, "Wow. Why haven't I done this sooner?"

I hope that you can make it down to relax with me, the music, and the vibes for a while. At times, I'll be performing w/special guests, at other times, I'll be flying solo. But always, I'll be seated at the club's gorgeous piano. Which, I should say, was the inspiration for the whole shebang.

And so, there you have it. Score one for the inspired, uncharted journey. Which, as ever, I thank you and your sweet ears, for being a part of.
See you at the caffe!

Yours truly, in song and spirit,
danielle

"Tears Are Only Water"
Rockwood Music Hall, NYC
March 2009

Alas...this video clip starts just after the first verse of the song, and gets cut off right before the end. But, it's sure got a chewy magical center, thanks to Raphael McGregor on the guitar, and Rockwood Music Hall on the vibe.

Many thanks to Asta Cheong, for capturing the sparks - and for posting them with that very kind, but very blush-inducing, "best singer of all time" claim... ;)

March 27, 2009 - Friday
Hello kind souls.
It's true. I'd love to not only see you on Tuesday evening, but...sing and play for you.

As for the "why" part, there are several reasons. First, I'll be performing some new music, and playing some older music like new, all by way of an inspired collaboration with brilliant musician Raphael McGregor. Second, as I am performing in the city a bit less often these days, the chance for us to come together over song is even more special. And third, well...to be quite honest, the best part about making music, is sharing it with others. This means you.

For those of you who live in (or near) New York City and can make it out, this should be a really wonderful set of song, as both Raphael and I are excited about debuting the music for you, in such a great space. We've been working hard on developing our musical sparks, which have flown high since our first chance to play together, behind the scenes.

Lastly, I must give a sweet shout out to Rockwood Music Hall, which was recently - and rightly - named the best small live music venue in New York City, by New York Magazine. Truth be told, the Rock can hold 73 persons legally.

Oh, how we would love for you to be one of them, on Tuesday night.

All my thanks, in song and spirit,
danielle

the morning of the day after the night that we met

That I am awake
At this hour
Does not seem to phase
My raggedy mind.
Sleepless thought,
Tarnished with wine,
Sits up straight and
Stretches the silver city
Far beyond this
Early morning.
Far beyond the
Dark grey outlines
Of a simple room.
There, beyond the drape,
Beyond the glass,
A cold, complacent scream
Collides with the dawn
Where deadlines march in time
And speak in rhyme -
    of hopes,
    of means,
    of ends.

But in this room,
This warm and patient room -
Infinity falls upon my body,
Tracing time with a
Quiet white whisper.
Tracing the memory
    of the shape
    of your face.
Shadows turn their soft shoulder
On the night
And as I lean back into the illusion
That is my life,
I breathe,
And then,
I breathe again...

You are not with me now,
But the memory
    of the shape
    of your face
Escorts my tired eyes
From the demanding sun
Into the seed of a dream
And I float...
Emancipated
Yet imprisoned
By the prospect of
Love's adventurous
