Hey Everybody,

Click on this link to see us play a song and be interviewed on the morning show in Johnson City, TN.

www.daytimetricities.com/tri/recreation/article/the_morning_pages_performance/14142/

We just got back from down South where we played in the Bristol Rhythm and Roots Festival with people like The New Riders of the Purple Sage, Doc Watson, Ralph Stanley, and hometown boys like The Two Man Gentlemen Band and Langhorne Slim. We met a lot of great people and the locals were some of the most friendly, hospitable folks we've met in a long time.

Last but not least, our record is very, very close to being done and we can't wait to share it with all of you. Russell Simins (of the Blues Explosion) did an amazing job producing and our favorite sister-duo, The Pierces, lent us their beautiful voices for a bunch of songs. We'll definitely keep you posted on release dates and such.

Love,
The MPs

Hello Children,

Click on the link above Bob's head (and then on "Dylan Goes Twang) to hear a version of "You Ain't Goin' Nowhere" that I sang on at the Bob Dylan Birthday Show put on by Rolling Stone a while back.  The Rolling Thunder Reborn Band consisted of members of The Pierces, The Blues Explosion, and Albert Hammond Jr.'s band.

Also, if you haven't checked out When You Awake, do yourself a favor.  It's a great blog about the Indie-Country (Cindy?) explosion currently happening in NY, LA, and throughout this great land.  The blog is mostly about music and style, but they also do cool things like recipes and fun date ideas.  And they're cute.  The whole mixtape is great, too.  Thanks, WYA!

In other news, the record's sounding great.  Russell is ruling our lives with a strong but gentle hand.  More like a caress, really.  We've recorded all of the basic tracks and now we're adding things like pedal steel, harmonies, horns, etc.  Can't wait to play it for y'all.

Love,

Grant

Hello friends and enemies,

I wanted to give you an update and make sure everyone knows about our upcoming shows. Things have been going swimmingly for the ol' Pages. The band has been tightening up some new songs before heading into the studio next month to work on our debut album. Stay tuned for details. The Staten Island Advance is running a big feature on the band, you can check it out here: http://www.silive.com/entertainment/music/index.ssf/2008/01/roots_rock_ready.html. The Deli just named the The Morning Pages their "New York City Band On The Rise".

Over the break, Alec and Grant headed up to Woodstock (home of Big Pink and some ridiculous music festival that wasn't actually held there) to participate in a special one-time performance of the Smoking Section, made up of members of Albert Hammond Jr.'s band, The Mooney Suzuki, The Morning Pages, our good friends The Pierces, and many other talented musicians. Dan toured the country in November playing drums for rapper MC Frontalot. I just got back from Chicago this weekend were I performed in a private concert with Jeff Tweedy.

Now that everyone is back we're ultra excited about a few upcoming shows before we head into the studio. We're playing with a lot of good friends and great musicians. We want to thank everyone that has been coming out to shows, bought the EP, and has been writing us on Myspace. We love you all and can't wait to dazzle you with more rock and roll goodness. For those not in the NYC area, stay with us. Festival and summer tour plans will be announced shortly.

Hey Everybody, here are some pictures of the gig Alec and I played up in Woodstock with The Smoking Section, a one-off band featuring an all-star cast of fantastic musicians.  From left to right we have Alec on keys (not shown), Alex Levy on guitar, Matt Romano on drums (plays with Albert Hammond Jr., toured with The Strokes), myself on acoustic, Austin Scaggs on bass, Allison Pierce (one-half of The Pierces) on vocals, and I think you can see part of Reno Bo's head there on the right (plays bass in The Mooney Suzuki and has his own extremely awesome solo project).  Anyway, we had a great time, despite the fact that we almost killed Sammy James Jr.'s van.  We opened for Tracy Bonham who played her beautiful violin-driven tunes and then had us over for a BBQ at her and her husband's cool, old stone farmhouse.  Very classy couple.  Hopefully we'll do it again sometime.

Happy New Year!
Grant

We went to see The Pierces at Mercury Lounge last night.  They were incredible as usual.  Such great singers, real, honest-to-god songs, AND they are quite visually appealing.  An unbeatable combination.  Their synchrnized dance moves are pretty entertaining, too.  The place was packed and a lot of people were almost dancing despite the fact that I've never actually seen anyone dance at the Mercury.  I think there must be some kind of "no dancing allowed" sign hidden somewhere behind the bar.

The band was fantastic, especially the rhythm section of Russel Simins (of John Spencer Blues Explosion) on drums and Sammy James, Jr. (of The Mooney Suzuki) on bass.  Nice dudes as well.

Anyway, these ladies are seriously superstars waiting to happen.  Check them out if you haven't yet.  You'll like them, I promise.

Hey Everybody,

We're gonna be recording our full length record in the next few months.  We took a little time after the tour to be with our wives and lovers and take care of business and now we're woodshedding to rehearse for the record.  It's gonna be really good.  Definitely a big next step beyond the EP, though we're still mighty proud of the little guy.  The tour definitely taught us a lot about playing together--I guess playing every night for almost a month will do that.  The instrumentalists are really coming into their own and we have a big batch of new tunes that we can't wait to share with y'all.  Anyway, we'll be playing a few select shows in the next couple months so check back for updates.

Love,
Grant and The MPs

Hey All,

We just got back from SXSW in Austin and we had a great time.  It was like hipster Spring Break down there, and I mean that in the best possible way.  Some of my personal highlights were The Pierces, Alana Amram, Nomo, The Walkmen, Golden Bear, Goldrush, the Squeak E Clean/NASA party, These United States, and The New York Howl.  Also, the Tex-Mex and Shiner Bock were fantastic as always.  Can't wait to do it again next year.

I'm really looking forward to our Friday night Residency at Pete's in April.  We're going to take the opportunity to stretch out a bit and try out the new batch of songs we've been working on.

Other than that, we're busy booking some out-of-town dates for June and July so hopefully we'll get to see some of you out there on the road.

Grant
