First of all could you introduce yourselves? And tell us where you're from?
I'm Camay: from Brooklyn, N.Y.
How long have you been in the game?
5 years.
How did you hook up with F.M.C?
I had music on myspace and Sha from FMC hit me up about submitting music for the mixtape.
mixtape and being part of the FMC movement means to you?
The mixtape is another outlet of publicity. As far as the FMC movement goes, I think it's great to have females come together for a common passion; music. Its been tried before on several occasions, I actually have an all female networking "klique" called The Krazy 88's which is launching this year.
Do you hope to get a major deal from this?
That's always the ultimate goal for everyone who loves music as much as I do, to be at a level where you can share your vision with the world and be known as one of the best of any gender.
.
Before this release, have any of you appeared on any other projects?
Camay: I have a mixtape being released this month in the states and hopefully
internationally by the end of the summer; The Krazy 88's present Camay; A Drug Dealers Dream. It's hosted by Black Wall Street's Nu Jerzey Devil and DJ Vlad the Butcher. I've also been on a couple hundred no frills mixtapes publicity is publicity
What is your take on the industry and female mc's?
I think the industry is becoming more pop and less substance. It doesn't really take lyrical content to be known as "ill" anymore. As far as the females go, the underground music I've been hearing pretty much reminds me of Lil' Kim on her Hardcore album. Yea sex sells but that route has already been taken and its proven that if sex is the only topic you can speak on intellegently, your never gonna be sh*t. Look at Khia, Look at Jackie-O look at Gloria Velez, you gotta be rounded. Saying pussy might get you the initial attention but its not gonna hold a candle to someone who spits acid about any topic thrown at her. There's a lack of anyone worth listening to mainstream right now, so the mediocre rapping bitches thats out right now are really overated.. such and such gets called the hottest female out, but then again there's only 2 out so that's not really an accomplishment. Now when there's 10 or 15 hot lyricists out that's doin their thing on that level, and you get called the hottest, that actually means something
Are you working on other projects at the moment?
A hustla is always looking for more ways to get paper, My company The Krazy 88's is releasing a original gangster themed kalendar, thats gonna be a big deal. Musically I have a couple of labels looking at me. I have a really great manager who's pushing me to build my catalogue, we're tryna have like 200 songs done so we can hit the A&R's with so many songs they cant think of anything other than Camay. There's also a book in the works.
Where would you like to see yourself in the next few years?
Conquering the world would be nice, I wanna be touring oversees, have a couple hits under my belt, I would like to see The Krazy 88's poppin, hopefully turning into a label by then. I just want my team and I to be living better than comfortably.
Is there anything that you would like to add, or give shout outs to?
Of Course Sha, and the whole FMC, my manager Animal Steele and
The Option To Buy LLC. The Krazy 88's and affiliates. Look out for the Drug Dealers Dream the Street album coming soon.
