well I have finally decided to shut the fuck up.

I might play a show every once in a very rare while, but for the most part I'm done.

Thanks to every fan who ever came to a show. You guys are the shit. Keep the faith.

See you in the kitchen.

Current mood:  energetic

I love it when I play a show and a quarter of my fans show up on bicycle.

I love it when I walk off stage and I feel like I just graphitti bombed city hall and I have to get the fuck out before the cops are called.

I love it when people hate me so much they want to shoot me.

I love it when people like my message so much they bike in a circle around me shouting "fuck south tulsa" as I'm walking with my gear back to my car.

Thanks for the best show of my life, Tulsa.

(p.s.: Don't forget to punch people that say "thats gay" in the face. and to set your lying history textbooks on fire around the flagpole on the first day of school.)

So yeah.  I have an album out now.  It's called Your Parents Are Lying To You.  I recorded it with some friends in an afternoon.  I also did all of the reproduction work myself.  There are ten different slogans that are on the face of the cd itself as well as a sticker that says the same (for example: some say "burn your lying history textbooks" while others say "Ideas are weapons, arm yourself well").  I don't have them in any record stores at the moment, but I am going to get them into a few in tulsa and see what I can do in other places.  If anyone in Austin, Boulder, Houston, OKC, DFW, or really anywhere in the US  has a good local record store that consigns DIY artists, let me know!

Oh! The CD release show was unquestionably the best show I have ever played.  You guys came out and showed so much love.  I love you all.  I am Playing D-Fest this month.  Then I am working on booking something later, say september.

Jacob

P.S.: I live in dallas now.  Take that for what it means.

Ok.  This is one of the hardest things I will ever have to write.  As you all pretty much know, I am leaving Tulsa and moving to Dallas.  I know.  It sucks.  But I think it's time for me to leave.  I have had the best moments of my life here.  I have partied in the TCC alley (drunk or high off my ass), seen the meaning of beauty as the sun broke on a new day at the center of the unverse.  Conceived of poems, songs and sutras too beautiful for any human language.  I have hosted a hopping open mic.  I have graphiti bombed the first baptist church with the words "fight homophobia".  I have read poetry at 5th and boston at 4 a.m. for no one but myself and the time worn brick.  I have seen the killing feilds on a sunday morning in the rain.  I found my creative center in the alley between caz's and lola's, and subsequently found my definition of the enigmatic in the rough hewn bare bulbglow of the stairs to the apartments above.  I've had friends kill themselves (R.I.P. Matt).  I've felt the cathartic rush of frantic scribble as words poured out like spilt booze.  I am tulsa.  Not in a self agrandizing sense.  In the sense that I am composed of a solidly Tulsan soul.  I could be nothing more or less than Tulsa.  And I will carry that Fuck You, DIY, artpunk mentality with me forever.  I'm not leaving Tulsa.  I'm carrying Tulsa with me in my heart and in my soul.  The world will see Tulsa in me.  And beleive me they will recognize!
Now I would like to remember friends past and present (in no particular order): Don, T.C., Dalton, Katie, Cap'n, Cherri, Captain Chambers, Ulysses, Shane, Ryan, Sally, Erica, Sean, Miranda, Owen, Chris Mantle, Aaron, Clay, Julie, Jewlie, Mandii, Jamie, Bradley, Sarah Sykes, Sarah Moore, Allan Winetraub, Patrick Reno, Jimmy Carter, Brandon Green, Katie Mentzle, Blake, Bob & Crystal, Dustin King, Matthew Truelove, Kristi Wyatt, Tony Quinn, Tracy Smart, Melanie, Maggie,  Andrew Douglas Franklin, Badger, GRANT!, Mad, Sarah, Olivia, Eric, Joe Cameron, Morgan Finnly, Theo and Jeremy, Jeffrey and Greg Rusty and Colleen, Jimmy and bev, Chelsea, Scotty, Jessica, Madaline, Little Joe, T-wolf, Mo Croi, Bruce and all of my high school hommies that I have not kept in touch with.  I know that I have forgoten someone who I could not live without.  To those presons I have left out, I love you as well, and I am sorry for the omition.
It's time for me to move on.  I will visit often, no doubt.  I'm not finding another home.  I already have a home.  Now it's time to take on the rest of the world.

Sorry I haven't gotten this up earlier guys but I have been avoiding the lengthy task of summing up the tour.

So, the tour story starts the night before.  I didn't get off work until 1 A.M.  I knew I was in for a rough first day of the tour because I would have to leave for Chickasaw at no later than 7 in the morning as my gig was at 10 and I had not gotten much sleep the previous night.  I got home and had to get to screen printing the "Adios, Mofo" shirts for the tour as well as iron the "Fight Homophobia" shirts.  And then I had to wrap, roll and tag all of them as well as burn off a few dozen CDs.  Well I got everything set up to do the shirts in the living room and then the circuit tripped in the front of the apartment.  The box to reset said breaker is in the locked basement.  So Katie and I moved into the bedroom and used my main speakers from my P.A. as tables to print and iron the shirts.  We were determined to bring merch on the tour.  We finished this at about 6 A.M.  I had enough time to pack our stuff into the VW and get rolling.  So with no sleep and a merch tub overflowing with t-shirts we hit the road at about 7:10.

We pulled into Chickasaw for my gig with only about 25 min to spare.  It was an outdoor college festival called Droverstock at USAO.  It was quite cold outside and as soon as I got up on the 4' high stage it felt like I was in a frigid hurricane.  I started things off and got a lukewarm response at first.  Then I introduced my song "I Went Hunting with Vice President Cheney" by saying "I think it's funny that the state of Oklahoma is paying me to play this song." When the song was finished, I heard silence and then heard a faint cry of "You're not funny!"  I played my booty off with as cold as it was but the kids didn't go for it.  There were some kids up front that seemed to dig it, but I think that for the most part I was pretty much disliked.  I finished up my set and got off stage as quickly as I could.  All of the Droverstock peeps were super nice to me though, and I have definitely played worse gigs.  As a side note the sound guys and the stage were the exact same ones that they used the previous week for Take Back the Night.  It was cool to see at lease a few familiar faces.  Oh and the direct box I used at both of those gigs still had the tape on it from when Wayne Newton had used it a few weeks before.  Ha!)

So, not and ideal start to the tour, but hey, what are you going to do?  Anyway, we had to haul ass down to Houston so we loaded up the gear and got on the road and settled in for the seven and a half hour drive to Houston.  It was my first time in H-town and I have to say that I kind of dug it.  The downtown area was fun and we sat next to Bobby Lee (from MadTV, The guy who did the spot on Connie Chung impersonation) when we ate dinner.   So it was time for the gig.  I'm not going to go into all of the details of how dramalicious this gig was but I will say that if Mellissa had not have been there I would have been probably kicked to the curb.  She is a bad ass person that went to bat for me when I probably would have caved.  Much love.  Understand that at this point I was running on absolute empty.  I was so exhausted that I went next door to the venue (Deans Credit Clothing Company) and got an 8 shot latte just get my ass through the night.  Anywho, I played, got a decent response and then we decided to head back to Plano to stay with Katie's 'Rents.  That was another 3 ½ hour drive back north.  So, after consuming roughly a gallon of iced coffee (to facilitate faster consumption) and slapping the ever-living shit out of myself countless times I handed the wheel over to Katie.  I was so happy to arrive in Plano and crash.

The next date was Denton.  I played at a kick ass venue called The Secret Headquarters.  It is a bad-ass tiny DIY venue that was a perfect place for me to play.  I played with a VU influenced band called Street Hassle.  They we're fucking awesome.  Everyone should check them out and look out for their upcoming CD.  It's going to be "off the chain" (as they say).  I also played with a gent by the name of Chris Garver.  Chris broke a string during his set and I got to be the good fellow musician and let him use mine.  I love it when I get to help people in need.  My favorite lyric of Chris' was "I've got your letters/Jesus got you."  It was a great show.  I made some friends and some fans and I adore the shit out of Denton.  In fact, I love it so much that I am going back to play the SHQ again next month.  We spent the night at a friend of Katie's (whose name is also Katie). She threw a kicking party for us.  I discovered that I am a genius at decoding the picture riddles on the inside of Mickies bottle caps.  It truly is Denton Rock City. (a side note: we found an indie music blog the next day called "we shot JR"  That did a preview of the show and said "Jacob Ide is a singer-songwriter from Oklahoma but his preaching to the choir lyrics, while well-intentioned, possess all the subtlety of being hit in the mouth with a claw hammer."  Ahem.  For the last fucking time I am not a fucking singer song writer.)

So we hit the road the next day and headed to Austin.  The most strange and awesome thing happened while on the road between Denton and Austin.  It started snowing.  Heavily.  In Texas.  In April.  We made a video blog about it that I will post soon in my videos section.  The Austin gig was fun.  Thanks to Polly.  This was also my first time to Austin.   Katie's friend Colin gave us a place to stay for the night.  So we hit up a few places that were really bad-ass and then crashed.  We had a great time in Austin. Fucking amazing food.  Thanks so much Colin.

So ,the last date of the tour I was supposed to play at a bar in Dallas called the Fallout Lounge.  It's a great place but we didn't manage to confirm the gig so we just hung out in Plano for the night.

All in all the tour went great.  I learned a lot and made some friends and fans.  You wouldn't believe how much work it is to put together just a four day tour.  DIY Artists everywhere deserve medals for the shit they have to go through just to promote their work.  Thanks again to everyone that helped out and listened.  I love you all.

So, this is a bit overdue but I need to write about this.  For our 10 monthaversary, Katie got us tickets to see grizzly bear (my favorite touring indie band) in norman.  It's was amazing.  The show was great and I got to meet the band.  They even dedicated my favorite song to me.  Anywho, Best night of my life and I have Katie to thank.  She is the best person I know.  You should be lucky to know her like me.

I love her so much.

I'm really glad that you know me.  I own a couple of parking garages downtown and I think I'm hot shit.  I love to use scare tactics to intimidate artists and pregnant women.  I'm going to tell you that the cops have been called but leave just after you do.  I'm really important.  So bow to me and my pathetic selfserving egomania.  I've never once been relevant or cool.  I've never said an interesting thing.  Jesus loves me.  But not as much as I love money and sucking up to those who have more money than I do.  You know I once got $2000 to shot a comercial in my other parking garage.  Really!  Don't believe it?  Well it's probably a lie anyway.  I don't really know.  Hell I don't know ANYTHING.  Isn't being a business major ex-fratboy fun?  See you at the gym in south Tulsa.  I'd see you at southern hills but they won't let me in just yet.  I went once and they  asked me if I would just go and play golf at their house. I'm a meathead.

ask me later...

So, I have a long dead relative (b.1785, d. 1885) who has long beat me on google.  One would have to look at least half a page down to get past references to my ancestor's most well known work "the nature and tendancy of balls".  As funny as that is, I'm really glad that we can let him rest once and for all.  I googled myself tonight (that's right I was bored) and saw that my myspace is finally number uno.  Ok Now I'm even bored with this.
