The Kidsleep Records compilation I am featured on is on sale at Compact Disc Store on Jefferson Highway, Baton Rouge for a very nice price and has apparently been there for quite a while.
Other than that, all quiet on The Sea of Cortez front.  I saw my guitar leaning against the wall in the corner the other day.  We exchanged a meaningful glance...that is all.

My friends at Kidsleep Records recently asked me to contribute a song to a compilation CD they put out along with several other local bands (as well as a couple non-local ones) and the full roster of Kidsleep artists.  Those are good dudes and they were recently featured in a Reveille article here.
The compilation came out Friday and you can get more info here and here.
As for me, we have been moving approximately every 1.3 days.  We are finally settled now, though I am not quite sure yet as to my new recording situation.  As for playing shows, Chris won't ever come home, so I am thinking of buying a robot guitar player.  If anyone knows where I can purchase one, please let me know.

Recorded and posted a new song today at the apartment in fear of the landlady knocking on the door at any second.  Wish I could have played drums to the end, but alas, they are away from me.

The Sea of Cortez actually had a practice not too long ago with some extremely fine musicians. Hopefully, in a month or so, this will be a regular occurence.

Current mood:  determined
Okay, scratch the last post to the point that I removed it.  I have completely scrapped the sessions I recorded in January and February because they were just not working and not me.  The music coming out of those sessions lacked all the trademarks I have built up under The Sea of Cortez moniker.
The only thing remaining from those sessions is Somewhere Outside the Window which I am keeping around only for the fact that it sounds really cool.  But I am dropping all of the other compromised music I made earlier this year because I want to take this band in the direction it is supposed to go and build off the work I did last year, and that is what I am going to do, even if I have to record it in a barn.
This is not a record-into-a-headphone-jack band.  This is a LOUD band.  Relaxing sometimes, yes, but quiet, no.
So here is a new track in the true tradition and spirit of The Sea of Cortez.  It is called "Finally" and I hope you like it (And when the minute and fifty second mark hits, don't check your speakers...that's intentional...you'll see what I mean...).
My wife and I are doing great, and she is one hundred percent behind this thing, and I really do believe that Sea of Cortez will be up and gigging before the year is over.  Anyone I have talked to about this in person, I really think we may be able to start practicing this summer.  Anyone I haven't spoken to who is interested in playing with me, has an open mind in regard to music, and doesn't mind trying out my bizarre musical ideas, let me know.
I'm excited

So the Sea of Cortez has been in existence for a year.  In that time I have probably written 50 songs under the moniker, about 25 actually mixed.
Ten of these songs appear on The Easter Parade, which I finished in June (and fine-tuned in July).  "Palm Sunday", "As He Ascended", and (obviously) "The Easter Parade" are taken from this album.  At first I was a little unsatisfied with the final product, but 7 months later and removed from all the work it took, I am absolutely loving it, and I finally feel it is time to share it with the rest of the world.
I am selling copies of The Easter Parade for five bucks (and I will try to throw in free shipping with that).   If you are at all interested you can message me at this account.  The album features 48 minutes of music, some of which doesn't suck...truthfully, if you dig what you've heard here and want more, I think you will dig the album.
Here is the track listing:

1.    The Easter Parade   3:55
2.    Palm Sunday   4:49
3.    To the Temple   1:30
4.    The Storm   5:15
5.    Troubled Heart   6:45
6.    Friday, Late Afternoon, Something Goes Wrong   9:03
7.    March of Souls   3:57
8.    Waiting   3:35
9.    I Could Not Wait for the Boat to Reach the Shore   5:03
10.  As He Ascended   4:20

You know you want it.
Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm about to get married!

Current mood:  excited
Well, this new track I have posted, "Without End", is my favorite of anything I have ever done, and I hope you will like it.
Like seriously, I am in love with it.  I love everything about it.  If you would like to know how I made any particular noise, I will be more than happy to tell you. Really, ask me anything about it.
Wow!  I have really never been this happy about a piece of music I have composed, and over the last five years, I have composed a lot!

Yay

The Sea of Cortez's first "Album" (I am calling it a demo) is complete!
The ten-track, 48 minute-plus album is called The Easter Parade.  The ten tracks were culled from about fifty originally recorded for the project.  The tracks that best fit together thematically were selected.  I have since written eight more songs and experiments, one being Guitar Party (not on the album), which I have posted for your listening pleasure/horror.
If you want a copy of the demo, shoot me a message, and we will figure something out.  If you want to play a show with me, that would be awesome, but I will need at least four more people to perform these songs with me and also a little help figuring out how I played all this stuff because I am already starting to forget which instrument/device made which noise on which track.
Anyway, cool,
The Sea of Cortez...

I am currently working on two seperate albums under the moniker "The Sea of Cortez."
The first is called the Easter Parade and the two songs I have just posted, "As He Ascended" and "The Easter Parade", are taken from that.  The Easter Parade is rawer and features more distortion, more sort of hip-hop beats, and more fuzz.  It's themes are more spiritual in nature.
The second is Self Titled and is a lot more delicate, with less distortion, and lots of delay, lots of rapid high-hat, and more of a kind of world-beat sound in the percussion department.  I don't have any songs up for that yet because that project is taking a lot more work, but have demos for about ten at this point.  Self-Tiltled's themes are the figurative nature of being out to sea, and are generally more solemn and longing than the more joyful Easter Parade.
Anyway, there will be vocals in both projects, by myself, and perhaps by my cuz Ashleigh (maybe), if she wants to.

Well, I have chosen the name "The Sea of Cortez" for my current musical project for several reasons, but firstly because I think it sounds "cool".
I am getting my own recorder very soon, and then I can take my time and make sure all the parts of the songs are perfect.  This means that Jordan gets a break from me ruining his life.
I hope you liked that Springsteen cover.  There were some mistakes that I was unable to correct, but hopefully having my own recorder will remedy such mistakes in the future.
That heavy keyboard and effect-ladden guitar sound should be pretty indicative of the music that should be coming out of me soon.  As soon as I get a recorder, I think I will be beginning work on a full length, and I hope you will like it..
Later,
Nicholas
