These are some quotes that I have come to appreciate:

Learn the rules so you know how to break them properly. - Dali Lama

Be more concerned with your character than your reputation, because your character is what you really are, while your reputation is merely what others think you are. - John Wooden

Fear grows out of the things we think; it lives in our minds. Compassion grows out of the things we are, and lives in our hearts. – Barbara Garrison

The man who makes no mistakes does not usually make anything. - Edward Phelps

When you lose, don't lose the lesson. - Dali Lama

Be a witness, not a judge. Focus on yourself, not on others. Listen to your heart, not to the crowd. - Ma Zu

Great minds discuss ideas, average minds discuss events, small minds discuss people. — Admiral Hyman G. Rickover

Open your arms to change, but don't let go of your values. - Dali Lama

You can't convince a believer of anything; for their belief is notbased on evidence, it's based on a deep seated need to believe. - Carl Sagan

Though no one can go back and make a brand new start, anyone can start from now and make a brand new ending. - Carl Bard

Success isn't permanent and failure isn't fatal. - Mike Ditka

I don't give a damn for a man that can only spell a word one way. - Mark Twain

Education is what remains after one has forgotten what one has learned in school.   -Albert Einstein

I don't know the key to success, but the key to failure is trying to please everybody.   - Bill Cosby

There is no limit to what can be accomplished when no one cares who gets credit. - John Wooden

The fact that a believer is happier than a skeptic is no more to the point than the fact that a drunken man is happier than a sober one.  - George Bernard Shaw

Re-examine all that you have been told... dismiss that which insults your soul. - Walt Whitman

It is better to die on your feet than to live on your knees. - Dolores Ibarruri

Judge your success by what you had to give up in order to get it.- Dali Lama

People excel and learn, not because they are told to, but because they want to. - Peter Senge

Those who do not know how to weep with their whole heart don't know how to laugh either.  - Golda Meir

Breathe.  Let go.  And remind yourself that this very moment is the only one you know you have for sure.  - Oprah Winfrey

Gods are fragile things; they may be killed by a whiff of science or a dose of common sense. - Chapman Cohen

Wherever you go, no matter what the weather, always bring your own sunshine. - Anthony J. D'Angelo
Life is what happens to you while you're busy making other plans - John Lennon
Your behavior while people are watching is important. However, your behavior while no one is watching is more important, for it reveals your true character

There's more to the truth than just the facts.

Happiness lies ahead for those who cry; those who hurt, those who have searched, and those who tried, for only they can appreciate the importance of people who have touched their lives.

If it weren't for the last minute, I wouldn't get anything done.

Do not undermine your worth by comparing yourself with others

Ignorance breeds fear. Fear breeds hate. Hate breeds violence.
Education breeds confidence. Confidence breeds hope. Hope breeds peace.

So now I guess my life has begun. My life on my own. My mom moved to California yesterday. Which I can’t really blame her, she did it to better herself. There isn’t much here in Polk County, let alone Florida. She couldn’t find a job and wasn’t happy. But I guess those two both go hand in hand.

I always knew that a part of growing up was being on your own. All kids say that as soon as they turn 18 they are gone, no way would they stay at home and deal with what they had to for so long. But yet at 25 I still found myself at home, with no intensions of leaving anytime in the near future. I at least wanted to stay at home until I finished college, but that is becoming a mighty feat to accomplish. I’ve always envied my friends that moved out so soon and are making it easily on their own. I wish that could be me. Being like them, handling everything with ease and still able to have a good time. I suppose that with my mom leaving, I am somewhat in that position now, but still with much less responsibility as others. My sister is still here, and there are only two household bills to pay, so we both took one each. But it will be difficult with her not working.

I’ve decided that I need to change the way I do things. A lot of things.

I’m going to take school more seriously. Afterall, I’m paying for it myself. So I’m only hurting myself by not studying or doing homework or skipping class. I think it’s foolish of people who are able, to not go to college; yet I fiddle around with a breezy attitude about it.

I am going to learn new things. I’ve always loved to learn and I’ve just become lazy as I’ve gotten older.  You can never go wrong with learning new things. There is sooo much out there that you can learn, why waste your time with something like watching tv for 3 hours when you can actually be doing something useful.

I am going to try to find productive and constructive things to do. I lead a boring life, and it is just that...boring. I’m going to start working out again, get a bike and ride around town, doing yard work, cleaning, finding things to do locally, whatever keeps me busy.

I am going to try to have a more positive outlook on things. I’ve always thought of myself as being that way, but recently I’ve been told I’m pessimestic and bitter. My reply is that I’m just telling it like it is, and if they knew the things that I have to deal with they’d be that way too. I can’t let the bullshit get to me anymore, I need to learn to let it roll off my back and keep going. I’m not going to let somebody who is miserable get to me, and bring me down.

This is the start to a new beginning. I’m anxious and excited what is to come.

I am so glad this semester is over!  I was caught in one of my funks again and had about 3 weeks where I just didn't want to go and my Computer professor threatened to kick me out of class if I didn't show up one more time. That got me in line.

Finals are finally over as of yesterday. I knew I did a good job in my Computer class, you know what grade you have on a test as soon as you finish it. So I knew I had an A in the class when I was done with my final. As for Intermediate Algebra, that is a completley different story. I had a low C going into my final. We didn't have to pass the final to pass the class, but with my grade, I had to pass the final to pass the class..there wasn't any way around it. I wasn't really even sure that I did pass the class and was hesatant when I went to check my grades tonight. I have never been more happy in my life to see a C on my grades report than tonight. I even woke up Sarah to tell her that I got a C. That's how excited I was. Merry Christmas to me!

Hopefully next semester will go good and I'll only have one class left to take. I'm so ready to be done with PCC and move on to bigger and better things.

copied from Copied from Mindspin 311: The Wisdom of 311
This page features some of the more positive, meaningful 311 lyrics. Please copy and print these quotes to spread the good word. I'm sure the band won't mind as long as you give credit where credit is due:

All lyrics by N. Hexum and D. Martinez (except the quotes marked with * are from "Wake Your Mind Up" - words by N. Hexum, W. Adams & T. Hardson).

Some Things I Have Learned From 311

Love is always free.

Sit back. Just relax. Let your mind unwind. Pull your good thing close.

Let tranquility surround.

The joy of giving pleasure is beyond measure.

Learn from experience.

The soul suckers must be circumnavigated.

At life's end, we'll feel the calm. How strange we should be here at all.

Think not but what your manifest is worth.

Everything you do, it comes back to you, whatever it may be. If it isn't one thing, rest assured that something will come back and pay you for your deeds. A shortcut's a self-defeating mean. If you cannot do it clean, you'll never reach your reward. And when the day is done, what you receive is the sum of what you took out from what you put in.

What you did as a devil or what you did as an angel, the favor returns itself somehow.

To just know hate, well that's so sad. What a life, strife.

Edification will take place. Pull up the reigns and get out of the race.

Kingdom comin' through ya.

The fish who keeps on swimming is the first to chill upstream.

The Nix Hex is on.

Cruise on by the frowners.

Life's a bowl of punch. Go ahead and spike it.

The world is yours once you have found: the good is to share which is elsewhere.

The devil is coke.

Fuck the bullshit. It's time to throw down.

Earth is where it's at.

FOLLOW YOUR BLISS.

There's much power in anger, but love's a bigger banger.

Of racist institutions, simple minds belong.

It's a waste to be a hater.

In the end, revenge sends end to the defendant.

Death reborn into the world is a gift.

Listen to everyone, then disregard it. The meaningful shit comes back.

The truth is what you shoot for, not one. Nothing brings it all together. The journey's never done.

The roots that grow in the ground are as big as the tree.

We waste so many moments standing on convention.

There comes a time to reap what you've sewn.

Suspend your disbelief.

The jaded ones will wither while the optimistic grow.

We spend are lives learning. If you like learning, life is large.

Jail terms should be picked in the order of the pain that they cause. DO WHAT THOU WILT shall be the whole of the law until you violate the rights of another. Respect the space of your sister and your brother. The war on drugs may be well intentioned but it falls fucking flat when you stop and mention the overcrowded prisons where a rapist gets paroled to make room for a dude who has sold a pound of weed.

It's alright to feel good. It's alright for nothing to be wrong.

Nothing in life is above being honest.

You've got to trust your instinct and let go of regret.

Fuck the naysayers 'cause they don't mean a thing.

Fuck the naysayers and keep going.

Guns are for pussies.

The goal is to be poet and a carpenter, to be one that loves, to be one who works.

Don't stay home.

The method that makes sense is patience.

Never give in. Never conform.

You're a transistor, lightning resistor, conducting to the Mother Star.

To survive the dimension is four.

Free energy has been harnessed. We don't use it. Why? 'Cause the technique's been suppressed.

Evolution is fact. We're all from the same Lucy despite differences you see.

Be sure that a dream's alive.

Be positive and love your life.

The Pleadies will smash out of Taurus.

Let's take that love further.

We should say how we feel.

Give thanks and praise for the good things you've found.

Tune in. For those who are wanting vision, feel it within.

Violence is for those who can't handle diction.

Try to freeze time for your mind.

You are immortal.

Get with your rhythm. Get with your nature.

You've got to come original.

Activate and attune yourself with meditation.

Life's not a race.

Take on the Love and the good Karma.

Just sever that leash and release your freedom of speech. You just have to believe your deed will be received somehow, somewhere.

You've got a wishing well within, that's ready to begin.

Evolution has exponential timing. It'll be half as long 'til the next breakthrough that blows our mind. It's up to people to brave on with experimentation. Move forth the species by using our imagination.

If it's understood it could be used for good and would if you will believe in all we can conceive.

Compressed is your life in the physical, but out of memory comes a vision which is a miracle.

People want to believe in mysteries.

An itinerant dimension mystic is your spirit.

When we come together, new planet is born.

The only thing that never gets old is honesty.

From chaos comes clarity.

You don't have to be a prick just to be heavy.

Now don't scream. Don't fight. Fear never ever made it go away.*

The world we're livin' in is complicated. The streets that we walk on are dark and jaded. A wandering soul that's filled with hatred - in it is poison. The youth is tainted. Social engineering keeps us separated. Media control is highly overrated. Ignorance is bliss to those uneducated. Listen to the message 'cause it's time we faced it. Wake your mind up. Clear your eyes up. Move and rise up before your times up.*

They want you to think someone's watching you so they can make up a set of rules for you.*

Don't stop what you got. Don't stop 'til you find the sweet spot.*

First you gotta break with drastic measure, then confusion gives way to flash of light. Next your gonna find blissful pleasure in a freedom reigning through blissful foresight. Yeah, do it smoothly. Feel the love. Let it soothe thee, send ya to bliss with all the wisdom of the sweetest kiss.

Sacred temple is what you're given. Receive the medicine.

Don't buy the fear.

Carry on and you won't feel withdrawn, even if you're coming down.

Anytime you will ignore your heart it will come back twice more. Never deny your own instinct. Reconsider everything.

In the world beside this one there are no lies and no suspicion, only dreams without end.

Just hang on in there.

It's one thing to make the same mistake twice, (but) another thing to make it all of your life.

Lovely life I thank you for the reason to see the pain through.

Don't give up the fight to stay alive, and even if you have to find the reason of another's pain if they lose you - if not for yourself then those around who care like I do. One day you'll see the clear blue.

In times of trouble everyone joins a team. No one waves a flag for all human beings. No one's excited unless they are divided. Someone's going to have to give in.

Your denomination should be a private thing. How about a spirit for all human beings?

Noise in our culture is built in our nature. Another era will decode as we head toward rapture. Suppose we're all gifted. Suppose that the mist is a metaphor for change. Suppose the veil will be lifted.

Solar marigolds light the souls return from that other world.

There's so much here at stake when every moment is just fleeting.

Rip up the evening post. Kill parasitic hosts. We can shoulder all the karma.

To Martian life forms these waters are real warm, but beware, we can change the weather and create a snowstorm.

Make that dream real and be sure it stays done. So let that thought bloom in your mind. A vision that's caught, never left behind.

Patience and years will refashion what hours will undo.

Don't dwell. That will leave you in hell.

Regret is so blinding.

Everything is a choice. Go ahead raise your voice. Might as well forgive yourself. That means more than someone else. Set you free. Break the shell. To your demons, farewell.

We have a problem. All this TV has made us dumb. Anxious is what we've become. Too much prozac in our systems. It's our mental condition.

One thing (that) lacks is education. Institutions fuck with our emotions.

We could learn, but usually we burn, and then we waste it. Taste it. Time and time again, it's time to take your medicine.

Sometimes jacks will rule the realm. Sometimes jealousy will dwell. You can't begin to dispel when you can not even tell.

You know you're a hardcore 311 fan if. . .

You get excited when the time is 3:11 or 8:16 *and of course 4:20*
You have at least one pet with one of the following names:
Nick, Tim, SA, Chad, P-Nut, Hexum, Mahoney, Doug, Sexton, Wills, or Aaron.
You've considered Omaha as a possible vacation spot
You've given yourself whiplash while rocking out to any song of theirs
You've wanted to get yourself a '69 Lincoln (with suicide doors)

You used to check the mail for "In Your Face"
You watch for 311 license plates, addresses and phone numbers
Your answer to adversity is "fuck the naysayers"
(If you live in L.A.) you look twice at every silver 911 Porche
You knew of Incubus, No Doubt, The Deftones, Hoobastank, the Black Eyed Peas, NOFX, and Korn probably before most of their "fans" did
You know who Bobby was
You know what the following mean: ETSD, FTBS, WGTH, BTGS, CUTM, SJRTR, WDYD, DLMD
You've affectionately called someone "Star"
You've told the real story behind the bands name
You know who Saint, Pat, Joan, Peter and Adam are
311 Day is a bigger holiday than your birthday
You think it's fate when your total purchase comes to $3.11
You've practiced your SA moves in secret
You're both excited and sad when Nick says "there comes a point in the evening..."
You can match 'Led Zepplin', 'Sugar High', and a Lakers jersey to the right guys
You've got a strong aversion towards "friendly to the radio" music
You know who's West side and who's South side
You've watched ETSD & ETSD2 a billion times
You've made special mixed CD's for each of your friends in subtle attempts to convert them
You've met some of your favorite people on BB or at a show
Your favorite parts of 50 First Dates were appearances by 'Amber' and 'Rub-a-Dub'
Any car ride is a party with all of the albums
You have pictures so old that Chad and Nick have long hair and Tim is tat-free
You've attempted the 311 Milk Challenge
You're savvy enough to catch "mistakes" in the live shows but loyal enough to keep them to yourself
You shaved your hair and bleached it platinum blonde sometime between 1995 and 2000
You've scolded someone who's shrugged off 311's music and are tired of the very old and stupid rumor people still talk about
You've searched for or found The Hive
You've traveled out of state to see them
It's been a goal to learn every lyric
You know who Jim Watson and Ward Bones are
You've cried or felt like crying listening to Beyond the Gray Sky
Any of the bandmembers recognize you from a previous encounter
You know who's got the herb
You know the real words are "check the technique" not "check, check"
You can shout "P-Nut, beat that thang!" with a straight face
You're goal is to conquer three hundred and eleven shows
Your life philosophy includes the ideals of unity, positivity, and "millenium niceness." You remind yourself that, "life's not a race" to "take care of yourself and someone else," and to "stay positive and love your life"
You cringe when non-hardcore 311 fans say they love "Down" or "Amber" (even though you do too)
You've been truly inspired to hear music differently or even learn to play
You love them so much it hurts sometimes
You're torn between wanting them to stay out of the mainstream and wanting everyone to like them
You know you are a hardcore 311 fan if everyone else knows you are too
example: being known as 311 Girl or 311 Boy
You broke up with a girl or guy because they didn't like 311
You keep burned copies of the albums in your car so the originals won't be damaged
You noticed the 311 poster in the movie 'Fight Club'
You cannot name a single favorite song
You know who Jake and Emily are
You get mad goosebumps when hearing certain parts of songs, even though you've heard them hundreds of times
You have a cd case designated for only your 311 albums and live stuff you have found online
When you see a crappy car go by say "that's an awesome car!" only because it has a 311 sticker on it
You mark your calendar and stay up super late to catch them anytime they are on t.v.
You listen to your other music only because you feel bad for abandoning it.
You see someone at a random place wearing a 311 shirt, and you want to just give them a big hug.
You say or think something negative and automatically scold yourself because you feel nick would be disappointed in you for not being positive
Everyone who knows you feels obligated to tell you they saw 311 on TV.
Someone pronounces it three-one-one and you almost puke
You do not dance, can not dance, would not dance... Unless you're at a 311 concert up in the stands because you couldn't get a floor ticket -- and you dance like your life depends on it, and don't give a fuck what the naysayers think.
You're in a dark hallway with a girl and you feel the need to kiss her.

You feel sorry for those who don't know the splender that is *311*

1. If you're ugly, stop acting like you don't know it.
The captions under you picture that says

"top model pose"
"sexy bitch"
"aren't i hot"

doesn't convince anyone.

2. To the people who have like 25,000 friends, are you serious?
Nobody in this universe can keep up with that many friends. You're stupid.
Go play in traffic.

3. Don't ever post pictures and say

"OMG, I'm so ugly"
"OMG,I'm so fat"

because if you were,
you wouldn't post them.

4. Nobody cares about threats over the internet.
Don't try to act hardcore with the keyboard.
Fighting online is like racing in the special olympics; even if you win, you're still retarded.

5.
Making 20 bulletins a day about how you have new pictures and begging people to comment on them is pathetic. Make the bulletin once if you have to, and those who actually care about you will comment on your pics.

6. If all your pictures look the same, don't post them all. Please put some variety in your pics. Nobody wants to see your face eight different ways.

7. Who really gives a rat's ass if I don't accept you as a friend?
MOVE ON!!!
Don't send me another request or message asking
"what's up with you not adding me?"
I don't want you as a friend; that's what's up!

8. Little 6th graders who have MySpace and look like sluts, go somewhere else because nobody wants you here.

9. If you have decided to read this, you are a true MySpace Friend.
Real friends read their bulletins.

10. I say you go and pass this on and maybe it will finally get through people's brains (if they have them).

11. And if you open a bulletin and it says something like
"you will die in 10 days if you dont repost this,"
IT'S NOT REAL! QUIT BEING AN IDOIT!!!!!!!!
