Wow It's been a minute since my last update. The summer has been great and seemed to fly by but I guess it always does when your keeping busy. Mantis, Pangea and myself have been working hard on our new project "The Get By" so stay tuned as we should have an EP available in the fall.

Anyways, I recently had an article published in Proof Magazine (www.proofmag.ca) a new Canadian Culture Magazine. If you get the chance pick up a copy or review the article right here (http://www.fileden.com/files/2009/8/20/2..549373/PROOF_1.pdf) The article "Kiss My Auto-Tune" is on pages 22-24. Big Ups to Proof Magazine, its always great to see people starting a new movement.

Anyways I promise to keep the updates coming.

peace

Well, with 23 years under my belt, I feel I've done alright for my self. Besides a passionate love for beer my career is on track. Still I got a lot of work to do people. No rest for the weary.

I was born in Toronto (North York General baby!), but raised in the city that's my heart Berlin (Kitchener - Waterloo). That's Ontario for those who didn't know, now y'all do. Yeah yeah! Canada! Where is too cold for me to leave the studio 6 months of the year.

The beginning of emcee'n for me came at the age of thirteen. Check the calendar, that's before everybody and your mommas boyfriend became "A hustler that raps good". As a child though, I was constantly writing poetry and short fiction stories for my father. Still write both to this day. A fan of Hip Hop culture for as long as memory can recall, I was bounce'n to Hammer, Arrested Development, and Tribe Called Quest before I I made the move to boxers.

What truly separates Justis from the norm?? That's for you cats to decide. But if I must plead my case, it's the time, effort and love that goes into everything. From toiling over every verse, working with (and creating) beats that truly vibe with the musicianship and essence of real soulful music, to taking creative approaches to recording in the studio. I'm and honest emcee as well. No fronts, just tell it like my life is, but from a perspective that might be a little more easy to relate to for REAL people. It all gives me my sound. Justis.

My musicianship? Naw, it's not limited to rap either. Over the years, I've take up interest in playing the harmonica and the Sax. I try to dabble with the keys also. Of course there is hip hop production, audio engineering (which I have been educated in).

I have been involved in numerous compilation projects including Co-producing the "Berlin Experiment" and appearing on the "Northern Hoard" disc to name a few. I have been blessed enough to have opened for and shared stages with many artists such as K-OS, Choclair, and entire list of Canadian hip hop heavy weights, as well as countless others from North America. This year, this year (2006) will be special. I finally will be releasing the debut Justis album titled "Just Is" because….well it Just is. After a long year of hard work and beer fuelled mayhem, y'all will be able to kick back and check what I'm really all bout. Word Up!!!

Thanks for reading,

Peace.

What's happening cats!!!

I know... It's been a minute... First off, my apologies for not updating the Myspace more often. I have been splitting my time between making music and making more music (can't front, there have been a couple of beers in between). So I have been neglecting my Internet peoples!! I will do my best to keep this page updated and more interesting in the future. So if I start slacking again feel free to message me or leave a comment and cuss me out…. This way I will feel guilty and compensate by uploading new music and video clips…

NOW!!! Update on what has been happening.. Well coming in March there will be a vinyl single released!!! It will feature the songs "Jazz Music", "Down" and "I am Hiphop".... Hopefully DJ or not, you all will be inclined to support it!  Big up Do Right! Music who is the company putting it out.. WORLD WIDE Y'ALL!!!

The Album. The Infamous, and seemingly perpetual album. "Just Is". This in it very final stages, album art ect... and I should be announcing the release date real soon and have the radio single posted before y'all know it.

Also, much love to the Drum Brothers, a click of INCREDIBLE French producers who produced the first single and invite me to appear on their album being released in Europe. Look out for these cats...  Ces messieurs sont les producteurs incroyablement doués. Ils vont faire les mouvements énormes! (Hopefully that made statement actually meant something in French) The Justis website and other assorted isht for y'all will be come'n real soon as well....  For now.. I love all y'all..... keep it on & on &.....
HOLLER AT ME!!!!!!!!!!!!

Peace

So I had the pleasure of seeing Devin the Dude last night in London - he was phat as hell. The cat is so chilled out and happy on stage, it's infectious... The whole show he had the largest smile on his face, even when he was forced to butt out his spliff. I was left with a question though. Devin is some what of an icon in hip hop, at least from an underground stand point, and maybe even beyond that. The guy has worked with the likes of Dr. Dre (on the classic Chronic 2001), The Roots, DJ Premier and has touched base with some of the largest names in hip hop. Not to mention he has been an ambassador of Texas hip hop since his days with the Odd Squad. In any case, the venue he was performing at waswell let's say less than attractive. In fact, dirty scuz hole might be more accurate - sorry to offend anyone who really loves the place I'm speaking of. The place was dirty and run down with only one angry inattentive bar tender (I need a beer when I need a beer, not when you FEEL like working). To top it all off there was no heat. That's right, on one of the coldest nights this winter there was NO HEAT! The place was freezing - you could see the breath from your own nostrils when exhaling indoors and everyone in the place was forced to rock their parkas and gloves. The question I have is: should we be bringing people like Devin to do shows at places like that? Shit, especially in Canada where we have a hard enough time getting our southern neighbors to take hip-hop up north seriously. Should we be throwing shows with larger guests in shabby run down venues because they're cheaper or just because we can get them there? Should we not bring performers like that into places that we can be more proud of? Show them what we have to offer and maybe leave them with a little motivation to return? Or do the artists really not give a fuck as long as they get paid?

Just so y'all know I am not too stush, I have no problems with dive bars. I play my share of them and I have seen shows in enough of them. Sometimes they can be charming and great breading grounds for music.

Venue aside, Devin the Dude was dope. The show was relaxing and funny, and that is what really counts. If y'all get a chance, go see that cat. He's great to just zone out and bounce too. I am glad I wentdig it. Still, I definitely felt like I needed a shower when I got home.

Much respect to Kills and Tim for guest list - everything is better when it's free.

Peace.

Justis

Yes yes y'all!!!!

What's happening people? Hope this Entry finds you well. Basically I'm posting this blog to apologize for the lack of updates on my page. Have I been a lazy bastard???? Maybe a little, but I have also been incredibly busy in other aspects of life. So I guess I put my nerdish interest in Myspace on hold for a minute. Anyways... I am all about it now and this page will get updated frequently with blogs (who came up with that name??), new pictures and music..... So keep check'n back...

MUSIC UPDATE: My first solo album is almost 100% done... so y'all will be able to snag that sooner then you think... but as a treat I am going to release a 5 song EP first that y'all can get dirt cheap... all songs that won't be found on the album... This will be out EVEN SOONER!!! So keep your ears to the ground for that. Also, I am starting to play with some ideas of touring to help promote both the record and the EP so if any promoters or anyone in general feels like bringing me out to your neighborhood (I will go anywhere in the world.. so don't be shy) get at me and we will swap ideas. I CAN TRAVEL LIGHT (Dj and myself..) OR HEAVEY (with the band). For now stay up...Thanks for reading.... be cool

Peace
