Check out my panorama of the Sumida River Waterfront in Tokyo. I took the original pictures behind St. Luke's Garden.
I used eight pictures to create this panorama.
You can see three bridges in the picture: 1) The Chuo-ohashi Bridge is a suspension bridge in the extreme left. 2) The Tsukudaohashi Bridge is also on the left, closer to St. Luke's Garden. 3) The Kachidokibashi Bridge on the extreme right of the picture.
The panorama was created using AutoStitch. I'm very impressed with the results. It's superior to other panorama creation software packages I've tried - and it's free. If you create some panoramas, please let me know!
Click on the picture to see its page on flickr. Click on "Original" size, to see the full resolution image. This photo is geotagged. Click on "map" to see where it was taken.
Enjoy.

My friend Kevin from Tokyo was in Toronto last week to visit his family for Christmas. I was able to meet him for drinks and dinner. One of the many interesting things that came up in the group discussion was that the life size statues of Colonel Sanders that stand outside KFC restaurants in Japan are dressed in Santa Claus costumes for the Christmas season!
Later I found out that having KFC for dinner on Christmas Eve is a tradition for some families in Japan.
Some people pre-order their dinner for take-out - others line up for the privilege.
Here's a picture that I took of the Colonel standing outside the KFC at Akihabara in Tokyo.

fugutabetai_shyashin has this great image on flickr of the "Santa" Colonel standing outside a KFC somewhere in Japan.

And, one last shot showing a line up on Christmas Eve. The photo is from sleepytako on flickr.
Thanks for reading! This blog posting has been brought to you by KFC Japan. :->

I took this picture in Hong Kong on the Avenue of Stars. The famous Hong Kong island skyline is in the background. It was so bright out that I force fired the flash.
Like the Hollywood Walk of Fame on which it was modeled, the Avenue of Stars honours the most popular and influential stars of Hong Kong cinema. I took pictures of some of the plaques - Bruce Lee, Jet Li, Chow Yun Fat, Michelle Yeoh, Yuen Woo-ping, Jackie Chan and others. Let me know if you'd like to see them.
The photo is askew on purpose (that's my story and I'm sticking to it!) to give Bruce's statue a little more of an "action hero" feel.
The statue was unveiled on November 27, 2005, the 65th anniversary of his birth. It was created by Chinese sculpter Cao Chongen.
After ground was broken for a new Bruce Lee Theme Park in China on Sunday November 26, a few bloggers included this picture in their posts. Within a few days the view count went through the roof. The theme park will include a statue of Lee, a memorial hall and a martial arts academy. It'll be complete in three years.

I took this picture two years ago on my way to visit my Grandma in Toronto. The sun was low enough in the sky to light up the glass skyscrapers downtown, and the air was polluted enough (ouch!) to provide a beautiful purple / pink sky.
If you're familiar with the Canadian National Exhibition grounds in Toronto, I took the photo from the Dufferin Bridge over the lovely (as in not so much) Gardiner Expressway.
If you look closely you can see billboards for Roots, Inglis, Expedia.ca, and Sony. Also visible are signs for The National Trade Centre and Exhibition Place. There's a traffic camera on a stalk beside the Exhibition Place sign.
I have geotagged this picture. Click on this picture to go to its flickr page, then click on "map" to see where it was taken.
I took the photo with a Canon S1 IS camera. The exposure time is 1/80th of a second. This is currently one of my most popular pictures on flickr.
It was spectacular to see in person. I hope that the picture captures a bit of that.

I'm going to share some of my better pictures with you over the next little while. If you like them, let me know.
I took this photo in Seoul Station in Seoul. I was transferring from one subway line to another - coming from the National Museum of Korea, on my way to the city's financial center. The exposure is pretty long - 0.1 seconds. It gives it a good blur effect from the decelerating train.
If you look closely, the woman in black is listening to an iPod (white headphones.) The gentlemen with his head down (is he falling asleep?) is reflected in the train blur.
Like most of my pictures this shot is handheld. Thank God for image stabilization.
The mix of Korean and English signage is interesting.
Anyway, I hope that you enjoy a picture of something that is very familiar, but foreign at the same time.
