“Spe-Cky, when
a player takes a mark over a bunch of other players - Specky”. Trav, my Rockin
guitarist, and I used our plane trip down to brush up on our AFL lingo and
knowledge of rules. Trav, being from Orange, had a legitimate excuse. I, being
the Vic Chick that I am, should probably be ashamed of myself :P ....
....
The Palladium Ballroom at Crown Casino was decorated with
Hawthorn Football Club colours and general AFL memorabilia and all the guests
were decorated in their fancy best. Suits and dresses as far as the eye could
see! This was The Grand Final Eve Ball and I was invited to sing a few tunes to
celebrate.☺ ....
....
I was over the moon that a request for “Country Singer” was
shouted out and all the words and actions were memorised by one of the Hawthorn
Footy Club members. How encouraging and flattering. Quite an honour in itself
to be there. And just plain cool. ....
....
We had our share of luggage and airport issues earlier in
Brisbane. So, we knew the Melbourne flights were going to be fine this week.☺ ....
....
Apart from being completely uncontactable due to a forgotten
phone charger and my non-focussed setting of the GPS to the wrong airport :s –
our Brisbane weekend was fantastic!! ....
....
Our first stop was close to the heart of Brissy where I met
Fergo and Jakie (our Rockin fill-in Drummer and Bass player for the weekend).
We rehearsed for a day and dined at the BEST Indian restaurant ever! (Granted,
it was also my FIRST Indian Restaurant experience - but I highly recommend the
food.) ....
....
The next morning we were in business, travelling to from
good weather in Brisbane .. to umm ..gooder weather in Noosa. Wow, what a
place! Lovely people, sunny skies, beautiful beach, boats and giant pelicans.
What more could you ask for?? A good gig? – well, we got that too!☺ The audience
was lovely and I got to catch up with a couple of friends of mine who came
along to the show as well. (Thanks Bob and Cathy. Really lovely to see you.) ....
....
It was our first night playing with LIAM BREW, who is
consistently brilliant. And I fell in love with a microphone! When we get
married, I will be hyphenating my name rather than replacing it. Jasmine
Rae-Neumann. It has a nice ring to it, don’t you think? ....
. ....
Dawn broke and we all decided it was way too early to get
up. A couple of hours later, we all piled into the car ready for a bit of a
drive to Lismore - that’s right! There were 2 adults and a kick drum (larger
than the two adults combined) in the backseat - we were pumped!! ....
....
Again with my virgin visits to quite popular places, it was
my first time visiting Byron Bay on our way to Lismore. So it was integral that
some beach, sand and Portuguese burgers were enjoyed. ....
....
Another very responsive audience and a great night was had
by all in Lismore. Next stop Pioneer Village Country Music Club back in Brisbane!!
We all loved this venue and the wonderful, relaxed, “feel” of its afternoon
vibe. It was a show against many odds, with strings breaking and amps blowing
up! But we were determined to have a good time, and determination always beats
bad timing! I got to catch up with a few of my MySpace friends there as well,
who had travelled to the gig especially. Lots of fun had by all. ....
....
Thanks for reading up on my lil’ blog about my adventures on
the road. I hope to see you out there at one of the shows very soon! ....
....
Xoxo Jasmine.
