Dress?
...Check!
Shoes?...Check!
Bag?...Check! (thanks to an early morning dash)
Destination?...ARIA AWARDS Red Carpet 2009! (AHHHHHHHHHHH!!)

Of course this screamin
g was only on the inside. On the outside, I was cool & calm, totally primped, primed and PUMPED!

We arrived at Sydney’s ACER ARENA last Thursday (November 26th) in a Universal Music Bus (T
hank God for air-conditioning!) and were given a little buzzer. Looked a little like the kind of buzzers you get at a coffee shop to tell u ur food has been cooked and is waiting for u. The ABC Music Label Boss, Tim Holland, and I awaited our little flashing buzzer like two kids on Christmas Eve. Then - it flashed and buzzed wildly – and it was our turn to cook up a storm on the ARIA Red Carpet!! We were smokin.’

Everyone was dressed so beautifully to celebrate the great achievers in the Australian Recording
Industry. Watching Jessica Mauboy’s live performance was soo inspiring - what great dancers, such energy - and her LIVE voice is every bit as fantastic as it is on her album!! Jessica is here for the long haul.

Sarah Blasko is a favorite singer/songwriter of mine as well and it was great to see others celebrating her “awesomeness” on the night.

Congratulations also to Troy
!! I was so honored to be nominated alongside you in the Country Album of the Year category, along with others I’ve forever admired including Keith, Shane and Felicity. So proud of Australian Music right now... A night that I will never forget!... My first ARIA AWARDS!!

I seriously just couldn’t believe that I was actually there, as one small part of the official Music Industry. Thank you to all my fans for helping me get there on the night! Just can’t wait to do it all again soon :)

Finally, huge thanks to Kerri-Anne for h
aving us on her wonderful show again this week and for her ongoing support! What fun we always have with u... thank you!

Xoxo Jasmine.

Version:1.0 StartHTML:0000000149 EndHTML:0000004289 StartFragment:0000000199 EndFragment:0000004255 StartSelection:0000000199 EndSelection:0000004255 Okay, I've got 2 pairs of boots, a pair of runners and some high heels. That’s four pairs of shoes for a two day trip ... Preparation is key!! And I was so prepared, I even had a new CD to listen to in the car, my talk planned out for my Vocal Master Class that day and some high high hopes for a great weekend.

As I charged on down my lil' street, I was at first slightly distracted by the knocking sound coming from the back left hand corner of my car. I slowed down, I sped up. The knocking slowed and sped with me - "It’s definitely your car making that noise" - a clever voice in my head called out. "Hmmm, nothing that a little loud music won't fix," my other voice replied.

I powered onwards with Holly Williams blasting in my stereo. What a lyricist - what a singer. Every time I listened to a song, it unveiled a little bit more to the story. How could I not get lost in her journey for the entire trip. 3 and a half hours later - I parked my car (my very first reverse angle parking victory. I was feeling good). A stranger asked if I had just washed my car. I laughed because it was clearly obvious that I am a water saving citizen who hasn’t done that in a while. But there was water eeeeveryyywhere!! It worried me, but there was no time! I later learned that the knocking sound that almost distracted me from my CD was my pancake back tyre!! ... But the show must go on!!

It was great to meet everyone at the Vocal Master Class. We began our session with some stretches and a warm up. Very important to feel comfortable with the space on stage and your body feels ready to rock!! There was a lovely bunch of people involved, with some great voices and songs to share. Most got to have a bit of a sing and I critiqued their technique and let them know what they were doing right and what they may want to work on in the future. It's just as important to know what you are doing right, so you keep those good habits in check. I really enjoyed every minute.

My baby broooom broooom stayed where she was for the night and was tended to in the morning. I was excited to play with Peter McWhirter again and with Victoria Baillie for the first time. What awesome fun they both are! I love their passion too, it's great to have lots of that surrounding you when you're about to go on stage. We decided to have a bit of a sing all together in "Pour Some Sugar." I loved the energy they brought up with them on stage. Just a great night all round! Thanks to Kyle and Trav's families and friends who came along for support and good vibes. Thanks also to Brookie for coming along and sharing some love.

It was lovely to meet some of my MySpace friends after the show as well. It's also been great hearing the comments about the Master Class and the Orange Ex-Services Club since then. Your suggestions and comments are always welcome and taken on board. Keep 'em coming!

Good luck to all of the aspiring singers I met on the weekend in Orange. It's good to see people getting into country and country pop music, especially so young. Power to you!!

Talk v soon,

Xoxo Jasmine.

PS - I got an iphone today. Hooray!! - it's still in it's shrink-wrapped box. But it's giving off a cool vibe from it's little case. Can’t wait to use it!!

I'm now in the car travelling from Noosa to Flaxstone where I'll be recording some new, awesome tunes this weekend :)

It's a beautiful day, not a cloud in sight. (So I guess I'm doin alright??) This morning, I ate fruit salad and painted my toenails bright green - that's just a day in the life of an ARIA NOMINEE, I guess:P

Oohh, have I mentioned that?? I'M NOMINATED FOR AN ARIA AWARD FOR BEST COUNTRY ALBUM, alongside some people I have idolised most of my life - Keith Urban, Troy Cassar-Daley, Shane Nicholson and Felicity Urquhart. I'm never been so surprised, in awe, disbelieving and majorly excited all at the same time before!! It’s amazing to me and I’m so grateful.

Now I've got to think about what to wear :o Perhaps something bright green to match my toes? I can hear you all screaming NO!! - ok ok, I'll keep thinking.

Congratulations to my team and thanks to everyone who has been supporting the Look It Up Album - it's been a wonderful journey so far!!

See u guys very soon!! - maybe at the Woodford Hotel Country and Roots Music Festival (with the fabulous Adam Harvey as well) this Saturday??

ARIA NOMINATION FOR JASMINE RAE!

ABC Music recording artist Jasmine Rae is on cloud nine following the announcement of her first ARIA Award nomination.

Her critically acclaimed debut album Look It Up has been nominated in the Best Country Album category for this year’s ARIA Awards to be held in Sydney on November 26.

She is nominated alongside four other much-admired artists in Keith Urban, Troy Cassar-Daley, Shane Nicholson and Felicity Urquhart.

Jasmine Rae’s recognition from ARIA voters follows an amazing 13 months since the release of Look It Up which has included a national country radio #1, two #1 music videos, an ARIA top #5 debut for Look It Up and national prime time television appearances at the State Of Origin and Carols By Candlelight.

This ARIA nomination also follows praise and support from the industry and musical peers, such as 2008 Australian of the Year and fellow ABC Music artist Lee Kernaghan who said last year, “Jasmine Rae’s new album is sensational and I think she is the hottest new artist to come out of Australia in a long time.”

Following the nominations announcement Robert Patterson, Head of ABC Music said, “Jasmine Rae’s approach to this genre is unique. Look It Up is in many ways a very courageous and ambitious album which showcases her character and superb vocal range. Jasmine is one of the finest vocalists to record a country album in Australia.”

Jasmine Rae’s latest single ‘Can’t A Girl Change Her Mind’ is at radio now and her ARIA nominated debut album Look It Up is in stores and online.

.. .. .. .. .. .. ....

“Spe-Cky, when a player takes a mark over a bunch of other players - Specky”. Trav, my Rockin guitarist, and I used our plane trip down to brush up on our AFL lingo and knowledge of rules. Trav, being from Orange, had a legitimate excuse. I, being the Vic Chick that I am, should probably be ashamed of myself :P ....

 ....

The Palladium Ballroom at Crown Casino was decorated with Hawthorn Football Club colours and general AFL memorabilia and all the guests were decorated in their fancy best. Suits and dresses as far as the eye could see! This was The Grand Final Eve Ball and I was invited to sing a few tunes to celebrate.☺ ....

 ....

I was over the moon that a request for “Country Singer” was shouted out and all the words and actions were memorised by one of the Hawthorn Footy Club members. How encouraging and flattering. Quite an honour in itself to be there. And just plain cool.  ....

 ....

We had our share of luggage and airport issues earlier in Brisbane. So, we knew the Melbourne flights were going to be fine this week.☺ ....

 ....

Apart from being completely uncontactable due to a forgotten phone charger and my non-focussed setting of the GPS to the wrong airport :s – our Brisbane weekend was fantastic!! ....

 ....

Our first stop was close to the heart of Brissy where I met Fergo and Jakie (our Rockin fill-in Drummer and Bass player for the weekend). We rehearsed for a day and dined at the BEST Indian restaurant ever! (Granted, it was also my FIRST Indian Restaurant experience - but I highly recommend the food.) ....

 ....

The next morning we were in business, travelling to from good weather in Brisbane .. to umm ..gooder weather in Noosa. Wow, what a place! Lovely people, sunny skies, beautiful beach, boats and giant pelicans. What more could you ask for?? A good gig? – well, we got that too!☺ The audience was lovely and I got to catch up with a couple of friends of mine who came along to the show as well. (Thanks Bob and Cathy. Really lovely to see you.) ....

 ....

It was our first night playing with LIAM BREW, who is consistently brilliant. And I fell in love with a microphone! When we get married, I will be hyphenating my name rather than replacing it. Jasmine Rae-Neumann. It has a nice ring to it, don’t you think?  ....

 . ....

Dawn broke and we all decided it was way too early to get up. A couple of hours later, we all piled into the car ready for a bit of a drive to Lismore - that’s right! There were 2 adults and a kick drum (larger than the two adults combined) in the backseat - we were pumped!! ....

 ....

Again with my virgin visits to quite popular places, it was my first time visiting Byron Bay on our way to Lismore. So it was integral that some beach, sand and Portuguese burgers were enjoyed. ....

 ....

Another very responsive audience and a great night was had by all in Lismore. Next stop Pioneer Village Country Music Club back in Brisbane!! We all loved this venue and the wonderful, relaxed, “feel” of its afternoon vibe. It was a show against many odds, with strings breaking and amps blowing up! But we were determined to have a good time, and determination always beats bad timing! I got to catch up with a few of my MySpace friends there as well, who had travelled to the gig especially. Lots of fun had by all. ....

 ....

Thanks for reading up on my lil’ blog about my adventures on the road. I hope to see you out there at one of the shows very soon! ....

About Time I Say :P

I finally made the BIG move from my friend's apartment in Sydney into my own little place to stay. I was super excited about the whole adventure. I loved running around the city looking for clocks and drawers, staplers and graters, CD players and cups and doonas (I know what ur thinking - did I come from Melbourne with nothing??). But if u have been following my blogs, u will know why I have a back seat still full of CDs and no second pair of boots. After all of this fun, I was told about IKEA where u can actually get everything ALL UNDER ONE ROOF! So I walked passed the clocks, drawers, staplers, graters and cups to find a funky lil desk that I now call my "Blog Station." :D

I'd like to thank my Mum for flying up to help me put up curtains. First time on a plane - we’ve all been there!! It deserves a big hug at the end - or a sedative before u board - whichever flow u choose to ride. Haha. Love u Mum xoxo.

Last week, I had some time in the studio - I love the studio! - to lay down some acoustic tracks. I can’t wait for u to hear them!! I think recording acoustically brings a whole new feel to a song. I won't say too much cos I want to leave it as a surprise for u :D

Thanks Trav and Mishy for allowing your souls to speak out through ur musical talents on these tracks!!

Hope u guys have been enjoying the video blogs while I'm "on the road". I love hearing ur comments/suggestions.

Have a fantastic rest of the week :)

After touring around with and opening shows for the best of the best in Australian and International music, it was finally TIME! Jasmine Rae and her rockin' band HEADLINED their very first shows in Sydney!

No really, it's true ..

Everything was going to be perfect for my BIG performance. I even heard about a great car wash deal I was going to utilize just to make myself feel super duper as I drove on in to Rooty Hill RSL Club on Saturday night. There was a slight hic-up, but I wasn’t going to let it break my stride. "Look on the Bright side Jasmine – it’s only flat on the bottom." Shortly after my failed attempt to change my tyre with all the wrong equipment - Thanks for packing my tool kit DAD! - Tim and I were on our way (in Tim’s car).

First there was Peter McWhirter - fresh from Nashville recording his debut album, how exciting! Then the very talented, funny, genius singer/songwriter we call Mike Carr.
I sat backstage trying to listening to all my favorite songs roll past in the break before my set, but I could only hear my heart in my ears.

It was a 3-course night with a ‘portion controlled’ main (as quoted by Mr Sorenson). But very tasty if I do say so myself. No-one even noticed the slight aroma of engine grease on my little black dress.

I’d like to thank my Myspace friends who came along to the shows (some of them traveling quite a ways) .. especially J<3N for your handstands and autographs that took a few scrubbing attempts to remove after our Yass Soldiers Club show last week, and Steve who flew here in time to rock out with us at sound check!!

I woke up this Morning feeling like I was still holding the steering wheel – Slowly unclenching my fists and rubbing my cheeks from the constant smile I wore on the weekend.

After our wonderful time on “Mornings With Kerri –Anne” on Thursday (Kerri-Anne is such a wonderful host to us when we play on her show) – we headed up to Orange where Kyle (my groovy Bass player) lives. I love rehearsing out there – It’s got such a wonderful vibe and I always come home with a tub of creamed honey.  I find it amazing that they don’t actually add cream or anything else to the honey to make it have that consistency (wow).

We then drove down to Yass where we met Peter and Mike for our awesome show. I loved it – the audience were fun loving – and some traveled quite a ways to be there.   Thank you to my myspace friends who traveled and made the effort to wear masks and do handstands just to distract me and make me laugh at serious points of my show :P.

I drove on down to Melbourne the next morning to visit family and friends – one would think after so much driving that I would be improving my skills – but if this is the case – one would be wrong. Haha - no distinctive rear bumper dints this time though - phew!

Hope everyone loved the show in Yass as much as I did – can't wait to do it all again this weekend. Hope to see u there.
