Current mood:  sad
We had to put Baci down last night. He had an enlarged heart that was slowly choking him and blocking his airway. Yesterday he was open mouth breathing and could hardly stand. I'll miss him.

The hardest part is always saying goodbye.

I went to see REO Speedwagon at the State Theatre last night. The first time my favorite band has played in my home town. I've seen them six times and have to say that this one was the absolute BEST.

They always play the usual fan favorites like Roll With The Changes, Ridin' The Storm Out, Can't Fight This Feeling and Keep on Lovin You. But they also opened the "vault" to some of their older 70's songs: Golden Country and Son of  A Poor Man.

Mixed in was Kevin Cronin's solo acoustic version of In My Dreams from the "Life as We Know It" album. He performed it on a Martin and gave kudos to the factory right up the road.

I was able to garner a signature or two on my "Wheel's are Turnin" LP (does anyone remember vinyl)? Even from Neal Doughty whose keyboard work I've been a huge fan of for years came over and autographed my copy. The album now displays prominently in my office.

Check out some of the pics I have posted. I'm a happy fan!

Current mood:Chillin’

So it's last Saturday night and we're in day two of the heat wave. Around 11 pm the central air goes out and me without any spare portable AC units( and why would I have them? I have CENTRAL air )...

Suffice to say, it got pretty darned HOT. Monday morning when I left the house the thermostat read a cool 87 degrees. I was fortunate to only have to suffer a short time before the unit was fixed but it sure made me appreciate that big box outside my house.....

My question is, how did people back in the day survive without air conditioning at all (or fans for that matter)???

I thought this was an interesting article in Newsweek. Shows how even rock stars are human..

You Need to Fall to Rise

My son's handling of his addiction was an inspiration.

I was at the Keswick Theater in Glenside last night and saw my all time favorite band. Go ahead and laugh, but these guys really ROCK. I only wish I had the power to play three notes of my own songs and have 1,300 people start singing it back to me. It sends chills down your spine.

For a band that's been around for 35 years these guys seem to be at the top of their game musically. And they didn't disappoint.

They have a brand new album of material that is some of their finest work in a very long time. Check it out if you get the chance. It's called "Find Your Own Way Home".

I even had the pleasure of shaking hands with Kevin Cronin, one of my all time favorite writers. I mean, the man has written not one but TWO  number 1 songs and has the classic rock staple Roll With The Changes in his arsenal. The guy is just amazing.

Having loved this band for over twenty years and finally meeting the man himself - it was a pretty special night.

Rock On.

Current mood:  optimistic

Ok, it may be because I'm partial because the 5th is my birthday. But October is here again. And even though the temperature is going to be in the 80's this weekend, you can still sense that "chill" in the air. It's all around. The leaves are beginning to change bright colors. The children are back at school. The days are growing shorter. You know the drill.

The end of September begins the cycle. By November, it's already almost complete. October is when you really notice the Autumn brilliance. At least, that's how I feel.

To me, the Fall really is the best time of the year.

When October Goes
Lyrics By J. Mercer

And when October goes
The snow begins to fly
Above the smokey roofs
I watch the planes go by.

The children running home
Beneath a twilight sky
Oh, for the fun of them
When I was one of them.

And when October goes
The same old dream appears
And you are in my arms
To share the happy years.

I turn my head away
To hide the helpless tears
Oh how I hate to see October go

I should be over it now I know
It doesn't matter much
How old I grow
I hate to see October go

Influences: "I like a whole lot of different things. I like The Eagles, Queen anything that has a great hook or lyrics," Wood says.

Sounds like: "My sound, I guess, would be considered a bit of everything. A lot of people say pop rock, but I have country and blues influences in there as well," Wood says.

Set list: Wood sticks to an all-original set that includes such songs as "Inside Out," "All the Way," and the Wood-Sarah Ayers duet, "All That I Am."

Know his roots: "I've been a musician for pretty much most of my life," Wood says.

He began performing and writing music during his high school years before venturing out on his own. He played guitar and keyboards in several local bands. "It just evolved from there," he adds.

As a member of the local rock band, Led Foot, Wood got to open for "American Idol" season-two runnerup Clay Aiken on Musikfest's RiverPlace stage in 2004. The following year, the band's debut album took home Best Country CD at the Lehigh Valley Music Awards.

Wood also was involved with the making of "The Long Road" CD, contributing six tracks. It was named Best Overall Album at the 2006 Lehigh Valley Music Awards.

Wood recently parted ways with Led Foot to pursue a solo career and says he hasn't looked back.

"I'm pretty much doing my own thing now. It's been going great, really good."

Catch him if you can: Wood recently wrapped up collaboration with Ayers and is looking to compose music with other local musicians, as well as his own material, before heading back on the road.

Be sure to check Wood's Web site for future shows.
