Now a MASSIVE thanks needs to go out to “Sons of Rico”, for their support at our last 3 EP shows, in Perth, Bunbury and Dunsborough. Everyone please be sure to check them out!!!

THURSDAYS PAGE - Beyond Paradise EP Launch @ The Rocket Room, Friday 29th of May 2009

The Rocket Room is usually host to some quite hardcore rock acts, but Thursdays Page fitted right in at the launch of their alternative rock EP, Beyond Paradise, and packed out the venue.

First up to support the band was Bunbury’s The Words, who were eager to please the crowd. Unfortunately, they lacked a little confidence and stage presence, making the vibe a little awkward. The songs were mostly quite original though, and the inclusion of the harmonica was a pleasant surprise.

The nerves of the band may have been showing through, but the lead guitarist did not fail to please the crowd with his awesome guitar riffs and enthusiasm. Although perhaps there should be more of these in the songs, as most of the set consisted of common timing and tempo. Also, a lot of the songs had really similar breakdowns towards the end, making it seem like they were ending their set about 4 times before it actually ended.

A solid performance, the band was tight and well rehearsed. A little more experience will no doubt increase their confidence and hopefully their song writing skills, and their gigs in the future will only get better.

Following The Words were Sons of Rico who opened with a quick, upbeat piece that grabbed the audience’s attention immediately. They followed this up well and did not waste time getting into their set. The drummer held the band together excellently, being showed up only by some awesome guitar riffs.

Although the set fell down a little towards the middle when the songs all began to have the same steady drum beat accompanied by minimal rhythmic guitar. Compared to what the band opened with, this lost the interest of some of the crowd.

Getting back to their opening vibe was not hard though. The band grabbed the audience’s attention again with excellent guitar, awesome breakdowns and timing changes that showed the audience what Sons of Rico are capable of. They are clearly a very original and talented live act.

By the time Thursdays Page hit the stage, it was clear who the audience was there to see. The Rocket Room was almost at full capacity and no one was left disappointed. As soon as the band started, vocalist Jake Hoskins showed his talent with an archipela opening before the band launched into their first song. Hoskins’ falsetto is amazing, and used at exactly the right times.

The second song, Impressive Direction showed a more versatile side of the band with an introduction on the guitar that sounded almost techno. The song morphed into a rockier sound, before bringing out Phil Watts on keys as a more prominent sound.
Although the stage set up was a little wierd, with the drummer Ryan Ammon off centre making the bassist Ben Mathews and Watts a little squished in the corner, while the lead guitarist Glen Hagger looked a little lonely over the other side of the stage, there was not much else to fault in the performance.

Disbelief changed the mood a little, by starting off slow and melodic and showing the lower range of Hoskins and the harsher side of his voice. The band was good at controlling the mood of the crowd. In fact, at one point the had people climbing the walls…literally.

It was clear that the main focus of the band was Hoskins and his falsetto, and although he is clearly a huge asset to the band, it would have been great to hear the other instruments show off a little as well. Thursdays Page did not disappoint the loyal punters who showed up in support, and no doubt Beyond Paradise will be a huge success.

What a night! It started off with The Words who rocked out their grooves with style and precision, meeting the audience as they arrived through the Rocket Room front door with sounds that only fueled everyone's expectations of a big night.

Following up from The Words was another supremely talented local band Sons of Rico who kept the drinks flowing by providing some entertaining classic rock that the growing crowed fully appreciated. Many punters will be excited to hear that Sons of Rico will also be following Thursdays Page to the Prince of Wales in Bunbury next Saturday and Dunsborough the Saturday after.

The tension and anticipation grew for the introduction of the band that most had come to see. Former bass player Michael Ward gave a resounding and almost bravehearted speech that whipped the crowd into a frenzy at the front of stage, with Thursdays Page then entering to the sounds of Marvin Gaye's Let's Get it On. From the start it was obvious that this night would be a celebration of music and friendships and of a band who's desire to work hard had finally paid off with the release of an EP in the form of 'Beyond Paradise'.

Thursdays Page's set featured songs off the EP such as Disbelief, On the Rocks, Pictures of Broken Flames as well as the title track mixed with new material destined to be included on the band's next project. Keep an eye out for the song titles Night Has Just Begun, Shivering, Sinking Anchor and Picnic University as these were devoured by the enthusiastic punters. The band also brought out a revamped version of their earlier released Sweet Lullaby which paid tribute to the fans which have followed the band from their early days in the South West Region.

The band would like to send out a huge thank you to everyone who attended, as well as the The Words and Sons of Rico who helped make this night such a success.

The Beyond Paradise EP is now available for purchase on iTunes as well as all good record stores. It is also available at Thursdays Page shows along with official band merchandise.

Here goes. Fleas like furry animals, such as dogs and cats. Some cats are small, some are big. One big cat is a lion. The lion is the king of the jungle and has a blonde mane. There are humans who have blonde hair. Lots of people like girls with blonde hair, including our band Thursdays Page. We like people with all different colours of hair, even people who don't have hair. But what has hair got to do with it?

29th May Rocket Room. You won't forget it. Thursdays Page presents the new Beyond Paradise EP with the amazing support of Sons of Rico (featuring members of Birds of Tokyo) and the Words! To help make it a massive night, we have just recieved our first influx of t-shirts and stubbie holders. They are fully sick Thorpey. If you see them you'll want one for everyday of the week. Not that we endorse drinking everyday of the week, its just something that happens.

In other news, Thursdays Page number one fan Rhino has dismissed reports that he is leaving the band Swiss Shepherd to join Santana. Instead he is going to find the new sound. This is against the wishes of Thursdays Page singer Jake Hoskins who also sometimes appears with Swiss Shepherd. Jake has been quoted as saying, "I like the old stuff better."

On the more controversial side of things, there have been rumours that Rhino's number one fan status is being challenged by the man known only as Jezza the hand crusher. At recent Thursdays Page shows, a massive growling sound has been reverberating around the room, and its not because of bass player Ben's amp. A few people have already lost their hearing from this mystery man, who feels it necessary to scream "Go Thursdays Page" after every song played, or even for no reason at all.

The barmaid from a recent show talked to our rampaging reporter yesterday, but withdrew her name, so for the purpose of this update, we'll call her Ms Conti.

"I served this mountain of a man a pint of beer, but he looked confused", Ms Conti said in sign language. "He then screamed those horrible words 'Go Thursdays Page' and I haven't been able to hear since." She refused to say whether she would press charges or not.

3, 2, 1, 0.... Get it? Its a rocket about to launch!! It's okay, some people just need everything explained to them. Not you though of course... you would also know that no matter what we say, we cannot explain how big a night this is going to be.

NASA has nothing compared to what Thursdays Page is going to provide on this night of nights. Does NASA have guitars, no. Does NASA have drums, no. Does NASA have bass, no. Does NASA have keyboards.. only ones with big red buttons.

Thursdays Page has all the buttons. They also have two of the best french ticklers in the business, especially now that Shannon Noll has lost his.

With this in mind, plus the amazing support of Sons of Rico and The Words, as well as many other planned shenanigans ready for the night, you would be an absolute nincompoop not to turn up. You wouldn't be human, you'd be part robot... and the word on the robot street is that this night is going to rock!

So if you are only ever going to come to one Thursdays Page show, make sure this is the one!

Stay tuned for more updates relating to this night...
