The Portsmouth Humane Society will hold a volunteer orientation on Sunday, June 29th at 1:00pm (13:00 for you military folks) at our shelter located at 2704 Frederick Blvd in Portsmouth, VA.

We will discuss volunteer opportunities, the mission of the PHS, take a tour of the shelter, and do some important paperwork related to volunteering.  Remember, all volunteers must be at least 15 years old due to insurance issues.  Those between 15 and 18 years of age must be accompanied by an adult or legal guardian at all times while volunteering.  We look forward to seeing you!

We are overrun with cats of all sizes and color and we have more kittens now than probably at any time-so come and adopt one!

A big welcome back to work for our Interim Director, Michael Monroe! Mike went to Florida to attend a conference of other animal welfare professionals and took his new shoes-only to come back with blistered feet!

Amy, our front-desk clerk got a shiney new camera last week and has been taking some GREAT photos of all the animals we have up for adoption in our shelter and we just got 4000 pounds of cat litter this past Saturday!

Looking forward to our Casino Night celebration and we still have some great pets that need new homes!

Yesterday was a GREAT adoption day, we had 8 pups go home a whole litter of 6 and 2 from a different litter..Adoptions were on a roll..hopefully we will adopt ALOT more out!!

You know, it takes some SERIOUS CASH to run an animal shelter! We have expenses like payroll, utilities and supplies for the animals as well as the office.

We just signed up for a new program called "Phones for Good" and we hope it's going to help us reach our goals!

We had 5 Adoptions!! 3 Cats, 2 Dogs..AND!! We also had a dog re-claimed by his owner! 6 Animals Out...Alot more to GO!!
