Razzlin’ Rick’s Rapid Review - ECHO Pro Wrestling -
St. Cloud National Guard Armory - January 16, 2009
I’ll have to say right away that this was a very enjoyable evening
of wrestling entertainment. Promoter John Black worked his tail off to
present a good product to the people of St. Cloud. His advertised star
Shannon Moore was not present due to Moore’s own travel mix-up. With
this disappointment staring him in the face, John Black still put on a
show that the 200+ people in attendance were very enthusiastic about.
They cheered, they booed and they really got into the excitement of the
evening. Travis Hilton was the MC and the show started very close to
7PM. Travis introduced John Black and he explained the absence of
Shannon Moore right off the bat. The Junk Squad, Pete Huge & Chris
Jordan with Allison Wonderland approached the ring. Pete told everyone
that Shannon Moore was scared of Pete Huge and that he might as well
just collect his paycheck and go home. John Black had other ideas. John
teamed up Pete and Allison to face Big Daddy Hoofer and Ann Brookstone.
The referee for the night was Rob Page.
1. “Playboy” Pete Huge & Allison Wonderland VS “Big Daddy”
Hoofer & Ann Brookstone. Referee Rob Page ordered Chris Jordan to
leave the ringside area. Actually Pete Huge showed some very good mat
wrestling skills to start this contest against Hoofer. Hoofer picked up
Pete and planted his posterior into his knee and Pete immediately
bailed to tag Allison. Hoofer tagged out to Ann. Brookstone grabbed
Wonderland’s puppies and Huge jumped into the ring, grabbing those
puppies himself and saying “You can’t do that!” Ann did her steamroller
move early in the match. Allison tagged out to Pete and Hoofer quickly
took over the advantage and chopped Pete loudly. To stop the attack
Pete kicked Hoofer you know where. Pete choked out Hoofer with his
wrist tape. Intense action filled the middle of the match. Hoofer gave
Huge is big backbreaker and the girl’s came in again. Ann put Allison
into that swinging Boston Crab move of hers and Pete entered the ring
to try and break it up. Hoofer grabbed Huge and held him in the corner
while Ann swung Allison’s head into Pete’s crotch. Ann tagged out to
Big Daddy Hoofer and with Pete Huge in a hurting state, Hoofer easily
pinned Huge for the win.
2. Respect Match - Tag Partners Collide. “The Professional”
Benjamin Sailer VS “The Popular” Nate Bash. Ben and Nate ran out
together as their music played. They shook hands in the ring and the
battle began. These two know each other very well so we were treated to
some excellent mat wrestling and the crowd also appreciated it.
Armbars, take-downs, half-nelsons, you name it and they did it. High
flying head scissors and aerial moves and the crowd cheered for their
athleticism. Elbow smashes, dropkicks, back-breakers, an absolute
wrestling school. Neck-breakers, body slams, and lots of near falls.
The crowd was really into this match. Sailer and Bash wrestled to an
advertised 10 minute time limit so a draw was announced. The crowd was
yelling, “Five More Minutes” so the match was extended. Ben and Nate
had a chopping contest and the crowd yelled, “WOOOOOOOOOOOO!” In the
end it was Nate Bash who won the match with a roll-up. The two
wrestlers shook hands and the crowd was thoroughly satisfied.
3. Josh Calisto VS “Lightning” Toryn Cross. I’d never heard of
Toryn Cross before but I recognized him as the man previously known as
Red Lightning, but without that crazy laugh of his. Cross was
tremendously brutal. Five minutes into the match and almost NO offense
from Calisto. Toryn landed loud chops on Calisto’s chest. Finally
Calisto got in some offense with a lungblower and a jump onto Cross’s
chest and a backdrop onto Cross. Lightning pulled down on the top rope
and Calisto tumbled to the outside. They fought outside the ring as
referee Rob Page was slowly counting to 10. The 10-count was reached
and both men were counted out. Toryn Cross demanded that Rob Page raise
his hand in victory. Cross was the total heel and this match was
basically a squash.
4. MTV’s Arik Cannon VS “The Genuine Article” Chris Jordan. Pete
Huge and Allison Wonderland came out with Chris Jordan. The match
started and Cannon and Jordan traded armbars. Cannon worked on Jordan’s
left arm. Cannon landed three chops, then two arm drags, another chop
and Jordan bailed. Pete Huge interfered on Jordan’s behalf and then
referee Rob Page ejected Allison and Pete from ringside, leading Pete
by the ear all the way out of the arena. Back in the ring Jordan got
the advantage on Cannon by kicking and choking. Cannon fought back with
some loud slaps to Jordan’s face. Cannon landed a swinging neck
breaker. Cannon tried a backflip off the top rope but missed his
target. Jordan landed some running stomps on Cannon’s gut and then he
threw Cannon into the corner. Jordan charged, Cannon moved, and Chris
went between the ropes and shoulder tackled the ringpost. Cannon hit a
series of clotheslines and got a two-count. Jordan’s diving elbow off
the top rope connected. In the end Cannon landing his Glimmering
Warlock kick to Jordan’s head to win him the pinfall.
INTERMISSION.
5. No DQ Elimination Style - Falls Count Anywhere In The City Of St. Cloud Match!
Joey Envy VS Rob James VS Ryan Cruz VS Kamikaze Klecker. Rob James
came out first demanding respect for the world’s sexiest man. Joey Envy
came out second followed by Klecker and Cruz. Klecker and Cruz started
the contest. As you can expect in this kind of match, the action
spilled outside the ring and into the crowd almost immediately. This
was what PennCentralFan was waiting for -- a real hardcore battle.
HockeyMaskGuy, who did the filming of the show, was having a difficult
time following all the action all over the Armory. Rob James rammed
Ryan Cruz’s head into a chair wedged between the corner ring ropes.
There were double and triple suplex spots by this talented group of
wrestlers. There were chair shots. Joey Envy landed his hard
double-foot stomp on Ryan Cruz’s chest. The crowd was yelling, “Holy
Sh*t!” Rob James pinned Ryan Cruz to eliminate him first. Joey Envy
landed a vicious chairshot to Klecker’s back. The crowd was on it’s
feet yelling, “We Want Tables!” Envy and James were working over
Klecker. Then Envy surprised James with a super kick to make Rob James
the second elimination in this match. Now only Joey Envy and Kamikaze
Klecker remained. On the outside of the ring Envy rammed Klecker into a
steel chair being held by a fan. To soothe the fans who wanted Tables,
Envy threw Klecker onto the timekeeper’s table but it didn’t break, it
just bent a little bit. Klecker just rolled off the back of it. Klecker
low-blowed Envy. Then Klecker grabbed a thumbtack off a nearby bulletin
board and pressed it into Envy’s head. Now the pair headed towards the
outside of the Armory, but first a trashcan full of trash was used as a
weapon. Now we had trash all over the place. About a third of the crowd
followed Klecker and Envy outside and into the snow. By the time I
managed to get through the crowd and outside, Kamikaze Klecker was
climbing to the top of the sign advertising the wrestling event.
Klecker did one of his Kamikaze dives off the top of the sign onto Envy
in the snow. Envy was not quitting yet and he landed another one of his
dangerous Super Kick’s and he rolled up Kamikaze Klecker in the snow.
Envy returned to the ring to celebrate his victory.
6. The Main Event. I didn’t hear if this was the Echo Pro
Championship Match. Lenny Lane VS St. Cloud’s Own Darin Corbin! Lenny
Lane came out flexing his muscles and then Lane did a promo cutting
down St. Cloud’s finest wrestling fans. When Darin Corbin came out the
crowd loudly cheered for it’s favorite son. Apparently they know who
this guy is. The match started and Lane just picked on Corbin until he
landed a few hard elbows to take control. Lenny hit a hard clothesline
to slow Corbin’s attack. A knee across Darin’s throat prompted an early
pin attempt to no avail. Lenny picked up Corbin and applied a
sidebreaker, repeating the same move to the crowd on all four sides of
the ring, then throwing Corbin over his head to the mat. But Darin
Corbin fought back and got his own two-counts on Lane following a
couple roll-up attempts. Lenny got the advantage and dragged Corbin to
the corner, exiting the ring and pulling Corbin into a backbreaker
against the ringpost. Back in the ring a slugfest commenced. Lenny
landed the Three Amigos on Corbin but only got a two-count. There were
lots of intense near falls. Lenny landed a boot to Corbin’s face for a
two-count. Lenny choked out Corbin on the ropes and then waved Corbin’s
hand to the crowd. Lane put Corbin into a Boston Crab backbreaker but
Darin managed to crawl to the ropes for a break. Corbin slugged Lane in
the face numerous times, and then Lane faceplanted Corbin into the mat.
The ref got bumped and didn’t see a Corbin pin attempt where he could
have counted to six. Referee Rob Page recovered and Lenny Lane threw
Corbin into the ref again to knock him down again. Lane went outside
and slid a chair into the ring. Corbin picked up the chair and Lane
pretended to be hit just as Rob Page was recovering. The referee saw
the chair and DQ’ed Darin Corbin. WAIT JUST ONE MINUTE! The referee was
informed as to what really happened and he restarted the match. Rob
Page gave Lenny Lane a ten-count to get back into the ring. Then it was
quick work for Corbin as he hit a lungblower and rolled up Lenny Lane
for the victory.
The show ended at 9:55PM. Even without the appearance Shannon
Moore, the crowd went home happy and satisfied. ECHO Pro’s next show in
St. Cloud is scheduled for May 30, when Shannon Moore WILL be on the
show. I think this was a great effort by John Black and all the
wrestlers stepped it up a notch to make this show a memorable event.
