All the liquid drained from your body, Replaced by an artificial chemical But the outer casings still real Like the housings of sausages You will last forever, perched at the Pinnacle of the ski jump As though reaching for your Medal attempt, and you too, The couple etching their Love into the ice in cuneiform Graceful script, She is eternally arched above Your head, mid-spin, So naked and pure You not only don't need skates But don't need skin, You are shed of identity, But you still have your eyes, Having been fixed In the window of time Before they cloud over, Still full of color like synthetic Emeralds. As they Say, as she, the most recent 'she' in my all-too-real story Reminded me--'you signed up For this.' In the name of What occult science Are you held in perpetuity, Never to fall from your apex, Never to conclude your climb With an inevitable descent, You are robbed of your final Clause, the death Of the body to match the death Of your spirit, the one thing They couldn't preserve. Are You my parents, looking back At me from age-tinted decades, And in the same way myself Looking back at myself, Reminding me of the death Of my own self, the illusion Of me standing here but At least you don't hide anything, Even your penis, reach for Medal-winning extent. Reminding Me I am already dead. The future is now, But there is no now, There is only the blood Threading its way through The fine lacework of the capillaries, Under the intense, almost Inconceivable pressure Inside the concoursing veins, That somehow manage never To burst, the hands on the Clock never sag under the Weight of time, exploding the Glass in front of their face, The glass that holds you, Organs calcified, perfect and fibrous, Any extraneous skin or fat Shed like seconds from The skin of time, the pulse Inside the chest: there is a day When you will look at them too And they will look back at you And you will see yourself Already eviscerated.

My guest tonight is a very good friend of mine, David Smith, also known to many and on myspace as Dave 23. Dave and I met almost twenty years ago when we both used to go to City Arts Poetry readings in downtown Salt Lake City, where we both live. In the course of that time we’ve hung out at a lot of concerts, went out to Burning Man twice, and I attended numerous Wiccan festivities that he helped coordinate. We were even roommates for several years, and I can recommend him as a great sharer of space to anyone. I’ve come to admire him for his adventurous spirit in traveling all over the globe and trying things like skydiving, that I might be too awkward for.
Despite a little awkwardness getting the audio levels right (and I later found out they can be potted up in audacity afterwards) we have a lively discussion about Burning Man, Wicca, and his more recent adventures skydiving and climbing Mt. Kilimanjaro. I don’t mean to be such a tease with this, gonna really try to get the pod up for your listening in next few days. The taping was actually fun, and I think it comes across!
This episode of The Awkward Hour is dedicated to my friend Joe Timpson, who left us last May, and struggled with many of these issues in living in the world with yourself and others. I hope he found some peace.

Friends, I am excited to announce that the voting for the name of my podcast is over and the overwhelming winner is The Awkward Hour. Damn, you guys know me too well. Officially, 'The Awkward Hour, a Stakercast production,' since Mariah reminded me how I seem to have some franchise with my name 'brand' in the area. 'The Awkward Hour, because I'm tired of listening to myself. Now it's your turn.' (It's an hour that only SEEMS like two or three. Now get your character-building ennui in easily-digestible podcast form) And I'll be watching your lips move because that's where the words come out, and the technological miracle of the sounds matching up with the ideas you are trying to speak. And then I'll attempt to form some kind of sound to wrap my gums around and toss back across the room in response; this part could get interesting. I promise to make the show as awkward as humanly possible. I will make every effort to make it unintentionally funny (the funniest kind). OMG, am I really worried about it not being AWKWARD enough? I was thinking about what 'awkward' really means, and it seems like the awkward moments are when you are being most real. Oh right, that's just me. Seriously, got the tech part about down & will try to get a couple 'in the can' as it were in the next month and polished for your listening pleasure . Will edit out and edit in, wash rinse and repeat, until it's suitably awkward, salt and pepper to taste. Some of the more interesting people around that you are interested in being interested in. The fine line between cool and geek chic. The Awkward Hour, because awkwardness doesn't have to hurt any more. I will be in contact with those of you who might be potential guests. I am open to any ideas, and am open to any suggestions, subliminal or superliminal, post- or Pre-hypnotic. Bribes, gifts, hospital wings in my name, etc etc. Stakerized Inc.(tm) Because I am owned by and a subsidiary of myself (after taxes).
