IM:LTD 06 - DEEVISION

Track a:"Cydonia"
Track b:"Ricochet"

OUT MONDAY 12 OCTOBER 2009 ON BEATPORT

Following on from the immense ‘Rock Ya Soul’ EP, IM:LTD is bringing back yet another outstanding new drum & bass artist.

Deevision hails from Romania – a place we’re tipping as the capital of the new raving world. Garnering plenty of attention on a local scale, IM:LTD is proud to release his first forays into the world of production.

‘Ricochet’ starts things off with a two-step breakbeat and an infectious synth line that all leads to one thing: some serious bass! Moving and grooving all the way through, this one adds subtle layers of elements, stripping them back and building them up again. It’s like a minimal track, but one that won’t send you to sleep!

To complete the release Deevision gives you ‘Cydonia’, opening with sweeping atmospherics and a rolling break, the tune builds and builds before a grizzled bass and a cheeky electro stab gets things moving along nicely.

Rock Ya Soul Ep

IM:LTD 05 - 'Rock Ya Soul' Ep

Track 1: Altair – Rock Ya Soul (Hobzee & Zyon Base Remix)
Track 2: Atmospherix & Eros – Groover
Track 3: Will Miles - Uncertainty
Track 4: Glen E.Ston - Ouroboros

Release Date: Monday September 28th 2009

There was a time, just a few short years ago, when digital releases in drum & bass were frowned upon. As if by their very nature the music wasn’t good if it wasn’t on wax.

Against this sea of prejudice stands IM:LTD, while they have plans for vinyl releases in the next year, their policy has always been to put the music before the format, and they’ve proven time and again that quality music beats pre-formed opinions.

And so it is with their latest release, the ‘Rock Ya Soul’ EP, an elegantly put together mixture of four effortlessly classy tracks from a selection of the hottest talent around.

Taking the lead with the title track Hobzee & Zyon Base rework Altair’s original version of ‘Rock Ya Soul’, creating a beautiful blend of echoed vocal snippets, subtle musical elements and booming bass in the process.

Atmospherix & Eros step up next with the upbeat ‘Groover’, bringing in haunting flute samples and classic jungle breaks all tied together with a loud and yet spacious mixdown.

‘Uncertainty’ is not something you’ll be left with when you hear Will Miles’ offering for this EP. Uplifting liquid elements are thrown in the pot with tough beats and a warping reverse bass to make a veritable drum & bass stew.

Finishing things up with style Glen E.Ston takes inspiration from the ancient alchemists with ‘Ouroboros’, a musical representation of cyclical creativity. A stunning way to round up a great EP.

IM:LTD 04 - ARP XP 'Surrealism/The Equation'

Release Date : August 24th 2009

IM:LTD exploded onto the DnB scene with some of the freshest tunes from
some of the heaviest new producers on the block. And now they're set to
continue that trend with another outstanding release, this time from Italy's
ARP XP.

And no, we're not quite sure how to pronounce his name either.
But how you pronounce his name has nothing to do with how you play his
tunes. The best way to play them in our opinion is to play them loud and
play them often !

'Surrealism' takes the lead on this release with a distinct underground flavour.
Plenty of minimalist influences are blended up with some strong beats, subtly
ondulating bass warps and a soupcon of muted reese for good measures.
This one has been on heavy rotation with every dj lucky enough to get an
advanced copy (including people like Asides, Dj flight, Nymfo, NotioN, HLZ,
Kiat...).

Meanwhile 'The Equation' is studio-fresh and super exclusive, so bask in the
glory of getting your hands on it before the masses as ARP XP slings out
some echoed synth stabs and a stepping break all with some beautifully
understated bass and a familiar vocal sample.

If you don't know...Now you know !

Of course , we couldn't resist to have a little Q+A with Mr Kiat ...

Let s Introduce Yourself, who are you and where do you come from ?

My name is Kiat and I come from Singapore

When was ur first contact with DnB and producing ? Any other musical background ?

My first contact with drum and bass was in London when Goldie had just released Timeless. It was pretty much unavoidable especially when you see the posters for it EVERYWHERE.
My musical background is a complete mess ! I used to have keyboard lessons as a kid whilst growing up in a house where my dad was constantly playing old school stuff like The Jackson 5, Stevie Wonder, Bee Gees etc...
So it was quite usual I would come home after kindergarden and help put on vinyl so the home fills up with music.
When I started DJing, it was mostly hip hop then i moved on to good old house music !!

What u been up to lately, what can we expect from u in the nxt months ?

Lately, I have been quite busy getting work for the graphic design company that I run with my partner Ken.Since the recession started, work has been quite hard to get but things seem a bit brighter since last month so we're working hard.

Music wise, I've actually started a digital label called QILIN with a friend called Andy who works at D&B Arena which should see the light in August or September this year.
It will be just a platform to put out more experimental beats not confined to the typical drum and bass sound. We've also got other stuff like dubstep and some IDM beats too...just music we like really.

Most of my forthcoming stuff will be on Kokeshi, Alleycat's label.
I think there's a dubstep 12" ('The Missing Channel' b/w 'Purple Clouds'...a collab with Alleycat herself) as well as a drum and bass 12" ('Colony 798' b/w 'Between The Space').
Also,'Diablo' / 'Where Am I' (with Ash) is finally coming out on Blindside with some other bits I can't quite remember now :)

What ur studio set up looks like ? What do u use to make tunes ?

I use Logic and Abelton.
SPY convinced me it was the fastest way to make music when I actually sat down in his studio last christmas in London and he showed me what Abelton was all about. Now I understand why he makes 3350 tunes a week :)
Regarding the method, it all depends on my mood when I am in the studio...there are no real rules actually.

You also dj, can u tell us more ? what does ur scene looks like ?

Yes I do DJ occasionally.I used to play a lot more but I'm happy to stay at home where it's quieter as I don't enjoy crowds that much.
Regarding Singapore scene: it's small but tight!
It used to be a lot bigger though but of course, new music comes along and people move on to other scenes. There is a club called HOMECLUB that does regular nights and we've hosted everyone from Goldie, Marky, Doc Scott, Storm, Digital...the list goes on and on.

What would u like to achieve in the future ?

Hmmm... I don't know really...only the future holds the answer.
For now, I just do what needs to be done at this moment.

Some last words....

To anyone that's still reading this...thank you for the constant support in music !

IMLTD02 - KIAT 'Less Sugar'/'Under The Influence'

LESS Myspace

IMLTD 02 - KIAT

             A - Less Sugar
             B - Under The Influence

Release date: June 8th 2009

Following on from their incredible debut, the 'Etched In Stone' EP, IM:LTD brings you another awesome release, this time from Kiat.
While most record labels are keen to bring you a boxful of the heaviest in "blistering beats and dancefloor destroying basslines", IM:LTD is more content to bring you quality music with more shelf life than a bottle of long-life milk.

Fresh from releases on Soul:R and the new Vampire Recordings LP, Kiat comes correct with some superior laid-back vibes straight out of Singapore.

'Less Sugar' is all about some slinking electro-funk with sparse beats and some choice percussive elements.Bouncing synth bass keeps this track moving along, and this one has a different outlook which will appeal to fans of a diverse sound.
Backing that up is 'Under The Influence', another quality offbeat track that cements Kiat's reputation as a producer to watch.

DJ Support by Goldie, Doc Scott, Alley Cat, Marky, Marcus Intalex, Bailey, Fabio and more !
