The Independent Scene Showcase, hosted by Founder of The Independent Scene Deron Wade is a great time and the artists who have performed here up until now have been nothing short of superb! Read On .....

Here at The Independent Scene Showcase we're looking for artists who know how to put on a great show! One of our favorite quotes is, "It's like Hotel Cafe, but without all the Red-Tape." Equipped with a beautiful PA and mics, provided by Venue-Owner Jonson, and a very spacious cafe which on any given day can fit up to around 150 people in its quarters, The IS Showcase is all about finding Great Talent and Showcasing them weekly, every

Thursday from 7:30PM-10:30PM @ Casa ..Princesa in the Heart of ..Eagle Rock, 5 minutes from ..Occidental College.

The Venue's Name/Location is:

Casa Princesa
4527 York Blvd, LA, CA, 90041
No Cover

Free Parking (We have a parking lot and also plenty of room on the side streets for your friends to park.)

All Ages

7:30PM-10:30PM every Thursday.

To learn more about The Independent Scene, please visit us here:

Rules of Engagement are as follows:

1.Show up on Time and Ready to Rock'n Roll

Please show up on time and ready to perform. Since none of us are rock stars yet, please show up @ 7:30PM and stay for all the acts performing. We have this as a rule because it's not just courteous, but a good Business move for you. Who knows who you might meet? We are all artists here, doing our thing, so let's support each other, meet some friends and move some mountains together, not just as individuals.

2. Please Respect the Cafe and The Owner's Policies

Many of you already know this and it's common sense, but there are a few who we still need to go over the rules with. We are Guests in Jonson's Cafe, please be respectful of this and treat it as you would a guest in your home. In other words, please do not bring other food which has not been purchased @ Casa Princesa into the Venue. We just can't have it. We love you, but we'll have to say adios to you if this happens. Jonson provides us with a Venue that is Free and the least we can do is be courteous and help support him and his cafe by eating their food, not someone elses.

3. Bring your CD's - E-mail Lists - Stickers, T-Shirts anything else that you would like to sell to help support your music.

We will have a table for you to sell all your merchandise and help you build your fan-base, one wonderful fan at a time.

4. Promote Your Show!

It goes without saying, but since we do provide a Free Venue and Free Parking, please go out there and promote your show to your Friends/Loved Ones/Loved One's Neighbors/Cats/Dogs/ Bears riding Unicycles ..
We're a Team here and love helping you, but together we can be a powerhouse - help us help you by doing some ground work and bringing an audience. Since we book up to 4 acts a night, this will be very beneficial for you and you will make Fans from our other Acts. We don't play the LA Game, we're about making sure the acts we put on will work with your Music. How about them apples?

5. Play and Get Paid!

We have our IS Jar which will be available to all of our listener's during the show. With a half hour set - there is no reason you can't walk out of our venue without selling a few CD's and $20 in tips. Not bad for playing a few tunes - not to mention gathering everyone's e-mail and yeah ... all the info you provide we'll make sure to post to our Myspace And a link to your Music - to help you promote your music and your brand as an artist. :)

6. Beer!

Since we're all Musicians who run The IS, we like to drink beer. Every Thursday @ 10:30, we head up to a bar up the street called, "Johnny's" cool, dive pub and $2 Pabst Beer. If you like something more fancy, the York Pub is right down the street. Come on out and let's get to know each other on a less musician more - I like to drink cheap beer and shoot pool - type of level.

Rock'n Roll, that's about it - The Independent Scene was started so we didn't have to have any rules, but heck, they're pretty easy to follow. The main theme with all our venues is just be courteous and respect the venue you play in, have fun and get something out of it for yourself. We want you to be successful, but we also want you to be courteous and market yourself accordingly. We're all about working as a Team and as our Slogan goes, "There's power in Numbers. Let's Move some Mountains!" Thanks for playing our showcase and we look forward meeting you and hearing your tunes.

The Independent Scene "Summer of Music" (Priscilla's Toluca Lake)

Hello out there!!!, are you looking for a casual place to put a ribbon on your week, have a cup of joy, listen to some live music and start your weekend? well then please join us at Priscilla's Gourmet Coffee, located at 4150 Riverside Dr. for another installment of the "Summer of Music" series. Featuring some of L.A.s best singer / songwriters in an intimate and hassle free setting......it's a cool vibe, this is our eleventh week and we're having a blast.

Last week’s artists included; Angela Leo, an English teacher by day and a sage balladeer at night.....which would explain her passion and intimate understanding of our language and it's words, great performance, well crafted stories put to music, we were also treated to a beautiful poem, check her out; but do it soon, she's about to embark on a China / India tour. Next up Worried Minds, Martin Maudal on guitar / vocals (shades of Harry Chapin) and Daniel Mullikin, aka the "Secret Weapon", assisting on; Cello, Mandolin and the most recent addition to the arsenal........the banjo and taking all of the tunes to the next level, intricate chord progressions, voicing’s and instrumental harmonies, intertwined with rich lyrical observation and commentary made for a very inspired set. Closing out the scheduled lineup was Trent Gill aka Pointless Thorns, great stage presence, quick wit and catchy tunes. Finally we had the pleasure of hearing a few tunes from Judson McKinney, a North Carolina transplant and songsmith, mellow thoughtful tunes with a dollop of whimsy and southern charm, he even broke out a whistle solo on one of his tunes, he'll be back 8-28 / 8:45pm.....................be there.

This weeks band of talent includes; 8pm Brett Knickerbocker @ www.myspace.com/brettknickerbocker , 8:45pm Beau Austin @ www.myspace.com/thenothingboys and 9:30pm Neil Rutman @ www.soundclick.com/neilrutman , it's gonna be fun, please pop in for a tune or two.

And finally a reminder, we are hosting an end of season extravaganza, featuring (at last count) seventeen of our "Summer of Music" alumnus, all scheduled to play a couple of tunes, it's an end of season / beginning of season celebration heralding the start of "The Fall of Music" series, please mark your calendars for September 18th tentatively starting at 6:30pm, it's going to be a cool vibe, hope to see you there.

Peace,
paul

Friday, August 14, 2009

First of all I’d like to say that my prayers go out to Les Paul’s family for their loss, he was certainly an innovator and a great player as well, he will certainly be missed and remembered for his talents and contributions ; June 9, 1915 – August 13, 2009.

Please join us this Friday evening August 14 starting at 8pm at Priscilla's Gourmet Coffee, located at 4150 Riverside Dr., for another installment of the "Summer of Music" series. As I mentioned last week we have joined forces with the Independent Scene, L.A.s own grass roots musicians resource organization, I would like to invite all those out there who have had the pleasure of playing at another I.S. location; to come out and show your support and please send me a link to your music @ whnusmile09@gmail.com .

We had a great time last Friday and featured three solo performances, we opened with Mr. O.C., he really rocked us with a set of powerful, soulful and insightful tunes, here's a guy that closes his eyes when he sings and plays, I'm thinking the stories and observations are all from the heart. Next up was John Paul, we invited him back and darn if he didn't accept and as I said in my last review of him, "well crafted tunes, tastefully performed……..and a hint of Ryan Adams" and last but certainly not least Miss Alexx Calise, another alumnus that we invited back, certainly well worth the effort on our part, edgy / reverent tunes, a bar chord goddess and not bad on the eyes.

This week’s lineup includes: 8pm Angela Leo @ www.myspace.com/angelaleomusic , 8:45 Worried Minds @ www.myspace.com/worriedminds and 9:30pm Pointless Thorns @ www.myspace.com/pointlessthorns .

We look forward to seeing you there to share another Friday of great music and also hope that you’ll join us Friday September 18th for the culmination of the “Summer of Music” and the beginning of the “Fall of Music”………….. has a nice ring to it, doesn’t it?, We’ve booked as many of or S.O.M. alumnus as possible and so far we have close to twenty inked in for the evening, where they will all have an opportunity to share a couple of songs and their own spin on the series. It’s gonna be a blast………………………!!!

Peace,
Paul
