Current mood:  busy
So the mexicans promised they'd return! and here a little update.

ERIK has formed a post-punk/no wave band, called Noise Arcade, based in Amsterdam but nobody is Dutch. Joao and Sivan from Low Levels (Mobile Recording Studio, http://www.lowlevels.net/) are his bandmates. Practice is going extremely well and their first show will be 21st August at Manupalooza festival in A'dam (info; www.myspace.com/manugetup)

MELVIN is making lots of fans since he joined Santanero (www.myspace.com/santaneromusic), first as a second guitar player and very recently promoted to keyboard. Their shows are visited by 100s or 1000s of people every time, they play big festivals like Bevrijdingspop and Pinkster (on the smaller stages ;-)), have colourful merchandise, a new CD and are very ambitious.

ROBERT is still a nomad across Europe - occasionally he returns to A'dam and the mexicans talk about all the cool gigs they still wanna do together. We miss him!

MANU and MELVIN joined forces with Ruben (Eva Braun), and make a whole of a lot of noise every saturday, sometimes it even becomes a song. They will also debut at the Manupalooza, under the name Teenage Tourettes Camp (the name they used last year with Nurhaya from Cheap Thrills).

ERIK and MANU are working on a tiny Digital Hardcore project (Horrorshow Melodica), you can listen to their proud first song "Punk Rock Inn" on www.myspace.com/manugetup

...and even more!!!

Current mood:  working

2009 - Full-length CD 'Post Mortem' released on 21st March, with previously unreleased songs.

2008-  we have released a song with THE RECIPE BOOK (booking agency manu's on), details on www.therecipebook.org
the song is Taco Central.1, because there are more versions around of the song (with and without our permission), and it's a critique of consumistic behaviour and the overwhelming advertising we get. tongue in cheek comment about myspacing. serious business therefore.

2007 - We have very few copies left of our demo (5 previously unreleased songs + bonus)! Order now!

2006 - The songs "Kafarna" and "Holy Crap" are released with a free sampler with a german fanzine, thanks to www.underdogfanzine.de
The songs "Hawaii Zero" -exclusive release - , "Holy Crap" and "Kafarna" are released on an italian compilation "Staypunk":  http://staypunk.altervista.org/compila.htm

2005 - The song "No Shit" in its most primitive version, our first ever release when we were just 3 on the belgian compilation "Riots in the Benelux": http://www.geocities.com/riotgrrrlbelgium/echo.html, with some great songs from Dusty Blinds, De Fatwa's, The Tommies, Displayed & others

Current mood:  sore

2008 -

We toured and we were too lazy to keep a diary because Jane from Pony Pack filmed all the highlights. Anyone curious to see what the ponies and mexicans drink when they stop at tank stations, Manu & Zainal ballet to Melvin playing Beatles on the piano, drunken antics backstage in Bern, travel pussies, and dark filming of our shows in Zurich and Frankfurt, is welcome to contact us. Suicidal Birds kept a diary here http://3voor12lokaal.vpro.nl/magazines/news/index.jsp?portals=66792&magazines=66793&news=926922

2007-

24 September----
The first weekend of the tour has passed! paris was full full full of cool public in a small bar in the suburbs and we had lots of fun driving down with fatwas, infact playing with them has always been our lifetime ambition. we can practically retire now. we played first so we had lots of time to enjoy the other bands (3/4 of m.h. hearts 10lec6). a very up the grrrrrls night! thx emy and gael! great curry and wine and melons too!

Last night the awesome maloka collective let us sleep and planned a whole surfing night around us playing a lot of hawaii samurai. we headlined and played extra songs even though manu's voice was dying she jumped all over the place and got yelled at for throwing mikes and other equipment around. we sold demos. manu and maaike (dusty blinds) dressed for getting married with giveaway shop clothes. nora and gijs (dusty blinds) left us to go back to holland. the remaining 4 went to bed sober as there was nothing at the bar. today we go to nantes! thanks xavier and michel and that pretty girl who cooked for us....

4 October----
After 4 days of driving across the country in motorways made for serial killers, eating rotting stinky cheese, cooking for our hosts, getting smashed at the spootnik vodka bar, walking all over nantes to find the cool record stores, bodyboarding on shitty small waves, farting jokes, coffee vanilla, sleeping with funny crusties, getting caught by bus conductors, and more crazy adventures, maaike & the holiday team reunited with Nora and Guy in Lyon to play on a boat on the Siene riviere, arriving at exactly the same time as Suicidal Birds who parked behind us even. Stefane who organized the gigs there does all the cool (grrl/indie/krs) bands, and he had the most luxurious backstage ever ready for us with all this delicious food and way too many drinks. The highlight of the tour, all bands gave their best and Dusty Blinds kicked ass. The first band KissKissMartine rocked our pants off, they're so good. But the mexicans did excellent too as we had people singing along, first time ever. Manu took her mike down from the podium and did a real variete show. Stay tuned for the sexy pictures...Thanks Tif, Julien, Alessandro, KissKissMartine, and of course our ultimate hero, Stefane.

With a tear we left Lyon ("so beauttttifuuulll" cooed the grrrls in the van) and went on to Tolouse. It was great to be all together again and we listened to music all day all happy. Even though Erik&Manu fought their way into the city, the arrival in Toulouse was good, recognizing all these people we met at the Ladyfest Berlin the year before, the mexicans soundchecked in less than 15mins even though there was a bulldog of a woman doing sound, and went off to see the bridges and sit on terraces (hot, hot, hot...our summer thus so extended...). We played after Call Me Loretta, so by then the crowd of crazy grrrls was drunk and charged. As it was the night of Manu's birthday, she drank enough to feed a bar of regulars before going on stage, and as according to some, with Melvin sweatingly rocking away, Gijs playing hard and loud and Erik&his Baby Jazzmaster making love on stage, the 4 did the best show ever. Manu doesn't recall exactly what she was doing when the crowd of screaming punk grrrls picked her up to crowdsurf at the second encore. We were forced to play Hawaii Zero as we had no songs left...forgetting completely about Kafarna.
Thanks Manon and Laura and all the organizers we didn't catch the name of for inviting us, Kej for getting the grrrls to crowdsurf, thanks the great people who lent us their attic to fall down snoring in that night, the chicken in the back yard for entertaining us during breakfast, Dusty Blinds for getting the crowd to sing Happy Birthday, and all the smiling cheering dancing people there. SORRY for our earlier comment in our earlier version of this blog which was very thoughtless and was interpreted as offensive. We didn't mean to offend anyone. Still friends?

The last night was in Bordeaux and Valerie and Jonathan were the best organizers and hosts ever. We know we keep saying that but finding soulbuddies across the globe which have all the music and adventures we would like to have makes us happy. We will come back for sure! Unfortunately after all the partying Manu could only make half the setlist, which meant the dusties and the birds could shine shine shine while we went on to wonder why we only had 3 drink coupons and where the hell was the beer we had from the gig in Lyon under that rotting mess at the back of the van. We still had people asking for a demo though. Melvin & Manu went to sleep in their suicidal birds t-shirts. Punkrockin' yeah.

Now we're on a BREAK. Catch us again in a few months while we get on with school, finding work, starting new band projects, getting more bands out there with the gigs we organize and go to, getting out of or into love tangles, combat the winter depression, and all those things that we do when we're not punking up the jam.
To see Gijs, go to a Dusty Blinds show.
To see Erik, convince him to let you hear his solo and duo projects.
To see Melvin, sponsor him to get out of Delft out to a gig he would like.
To see Manu (Ella), go to the opening night of Ladyfest Rotterdam.
Adios amigos!

Current mood:  cold
July 9th at our favorite place (OCCII in Amsterdam), with one of our favorite bands (Mika Miko), was our last gig with Gijs........it was a blast!!!!! Gijs, we will miss you!! if it wouldn't have been for that fucker, we never would've played live anyway and would've just stayed a trio messing around in that practice space.

2 November however, at the ADM, during a Zombie Masquerade all-night party, we had our first show with ROBERT, who knew the setlist real well by then.We met him in Bitterzoet when we played the Subbacultcha! night with Pony Pack, a great upcoming rock (garage/pop/indie?) band even more international than our little clique.

And then: 2008 kicks off: and the Suicidal Birds+Manu conspiracy will bring those lazy arubian asses to the Alps, and lovingly take our buddies Pony Pack with us, for a tour we dunno how short will be exactly. We need those 1-2 extra gigs to make our tour complete, so if you have any basement or squat or bar where we can play, send us a message!

p.s. Before gijs left, we managed to record a handful of new songs, which we wanted to release but as to this day they are still not properly mixed, so we're just gonna upload them here at some point....in the meantime and while you wait, we reccomend you to get yourself the new The Tommies CD, probably the band's best friends!!!

Current mood:  loved

We're playing a lot of small towns recently and it's really funny to see how mullets still exist in the local youth in this day and age ....and how our new songs go down on them. Not that they would know....most people don't know how to deal with high-speed surf and a screaming brat (perhaps in a cowboy hat). So we get stared at a lot. It's fun. Luckily we can always count on a few bouncing rebel punkrockers to go against this annoyingly dutch habit.

And if not there's always the free beer, and falling asleep in the train as we still have no vans or amps or fans with vans and amps (except for Joost and Carr in Hoorn: u rule!).

Castri-cum: we are still laughing at the name of this town: there we got into trouble for a J inside the venue, and we pretended the whole night we were The Tommies.

Den Haag: Cafe' De Vinger rules, it allows bands to be seen for free. The best show in a long time, with our colleagues Tiger String Ensemble you know u're gonna be rockin' in no time.

Groningen was super-cool! Packed with swinging crusties bopping away to the mexicans' beat. We love the s.birds: the hospitality at their farm is something we wanna experience again soon....

In the meantime we are still having auditions for a new drummer.....

Last saturday we played at the Muziekhuis in Leiden during an exciting record-breaking attempt= 20 bands play in 2 hours (divided in 8 practice spaces). And they did it!

We were on at 21:00 which meant most of our friends missed us by the time they got up to the third floor where we were. It was funny to see the public change all the time as people quickly wandered from one band to the other. We met Erik's old bandmates and Gijs drummed so hard he bled. A young guy kissed Manu's hand. They said we made "Tering Herrie" - dutch for "a whole lot of annoying noise". Quite a change from the night before at the Occii, where we weren't as loose and the effects (micro)phone didn't work. Although Melvin did get to play on this real cool vintage amp, thanks to Almandino Quite Deluxe (grrreat surf thrash experimental duo). Looking forward to Friday!
