Want to find out a bit more about WoNK .. well now you can with the following interview..

Tell us in one sentence why people should listen to dance music.

It makes you move, groove and be happy.

Your discography boasts nearly 30 productions, some of which have done very well. How long has it taken you to do it?

It’s been a bit of a struggle learning synths and progressing from lame productions at the start to what I have now. There always going to be a learning curve but I still love it! Every time I learn something new I get excited and have to put it down into a track.

So you are able to complete a track every two weeks?

Around about that, yes. Sometimes I do them faster and sometimes they take longer, it all depends on my mood and the vibe I’m getting at the time. Some tracks you never get to hear because after a while I decide they are not what I’m feeling and just delete them and start again.

How do such hot beats come out of such a cold country?

(laughs) Yes, it is a touch cold right now isn’t it. The snow is ace though we don’t get enough of that here. My studio room is pretty warm so I can always imagine I’m in a hot country. I think the clubbers here love stuff that warms them up and makes them move.

Have you ever had an embarrassing moment at a nightclub or in the DJ booth?

Well I shouldn’t say this but the other night I was getting into the swing of things at a club and I hit the pause button on the CDJ by mistake and it started stuttering. Luckily it was in just the right place for me to play it off as something I meant to do.

Go on, tell us about your dream DJ booth set up.

I would have to say one with loads of toys in it, like a Kaos pad, an EFX 1000 and some sample pads so I could just go crazy. Perhaps a nice laptop hooked up with Ableton too so I could go even more crazy. Oh and don’t forget the CDJ1000s; I do love those!

Fidget music is a new subgenre of house music. What do you think makes a good fidget track?

Well for me a good tune is one that makes you want to play it over and over again. Dirty bass lines, wobbles and risers. Tasty vocals never go amiss. and at the moment I’m loving stuff with random breakdowns with jazz and stuff suddenly thrown in: it really gives me shivers.

Which other released artists do you draw your inspiration from?

Artists such as Calvertron, Will Bailey, Rico Tubbs, Dj Bam Bam etc. They all make such mashed-up tracks I really fall in love with them and aspire to make things that get crowds going that much.

If you could teach a celebrity how to DJ, who would it be and why?

(Laughs) One of the TellyTubbies! Do they even class as celebs? Either way it would be really funny wouldn’t it to see one of them up there trying to mix in the costume. Or maybe someone like Will Smith, because id love to get up close and personal with him and show him how to use turntables.

What’s your opinion on the demise of vinyl as a playing medium?

It’s a shame really but the money problems are hitting it hard. It’s lovely as a producer to get a vinyl release and as a DJ to play something on vinyl it just sounds that bit better. But with all the new technology around we have to embrace it and move forwards.

You’re out playing one night when you hear a fizzle in the DJ booth. You look around, only to find that you’ve set the booth speaker on fire. The drink in your hand is your favourite cocktail, and the people are seriously getting down to your tracks. What do you do?

Stand on the decks, hands in the air and just yell “Wow we are really getting hot now “. Then I think I’d neck the cocktail and try and find a fire extinguisher. I could always just use headphones to carry on mixing and watch the speaker melt but then I think people might think me a bit weird.
