Ivo Watts-Russell, founder of the British record label 4AD, began This Mortal Coil in the mid-1980's going on to release three full-length albums featuring a large rotating cast of artists, many who were signed to, or otherwise associated with, 4AD. Over the course of the three albums, members of the Cocteau Twins, Dead Can Dance, Wire, The Pixies, Siouxsie & The Banshees and many others all collaborated to create unique interpretations of many of Watts-Russell's favorite songs. About half of the songs released were cover songs, often of 1960s and 1970s psychedelic and folk acts including Tim Buckley, Nick Drake, Big Star, Roy Harper and many more.

Due to the complex nature of the project and the many collaborators, no live performances ever took place.

To capture the original spirit of This Mortal Coil, Halou/Stripmall Architecture founder/producer Ryan Coseboom has assembled a group of musicians and vocalists to perform this material live for the first time in the style in which it was originally released. Featuring a full string section and three of the Bay Area's most unique and captivating vocalists, this evening of music will recall the evocative nature of the original recordings and recontextualize the music with newly produced visual projections curated by renowned Los Angeles based design firm The Mystery Parade.

I've been going through some of the old multitracks to see what might work for the small show we're playing in June.  When we do the trio shows, it makes sense to do some of the songs with stranger arrangements.  Today, I had a go with 'Soft Breasts And Ice Cream' and 'Half-Gifts', which is a Cocteau Twins song we recorded some years ago.

Spent Saturday in the studio in Oakland recording drums for The Soul's Release record I'm producing for Dynamophone.  Also, recorded a couple takes for Bloodwire.

Yesterday did some further work on the Soul's Release - primarily programming drums, which is something I don't do much of these days.  Sort of a lost art, heh.  Used to be the thing I spent more time on than anything.

Today I finished up the bulk of a remix I've been working on.  Recorded bass and a bunch of guitars for that.

The Stripmall album is coming right along.  Have two new songs that just sort of appeared and now they're quite far along.

Heard from Amman Abbasi and it looks like I might be working on their next record.  The last one was an enjoyable experience and the album went over well.  Could be fun.
