This originally started out as a little club jam Rocco, Steve, and I used to play on gigs, and we loved the sparse groove and Billie Jean-esque beginning. Kiki wrote some lyrics and added a great, restrained vocal track.

Yes, someone actually did leave this message on my answering machine about the world's greatest cheesesteak recipe. I was house sitting for someone who had a beautiful baby grand piano so I plunked down some keyboard parts, added some drums and chopped up the answering machine message. I had it sitting on my hard drive for years and didn't finish it until Josh heard it and said the beat reminded him of something from the Def Jux catalog. That inspired me to finally finish it up.

Justice on a Budget was a breath of fresh air. We originally got together with the idea that there would be no preconceived ideas - just play, improvise, create and see what happens. Our music ended being a mix of acoustic improv and electronic experimentation. Most of all, it was just really fun playing with these guys.

This was one of the few songs north19 actually wrote together. It started with my pseudo rhumba/bolero groove and Travis' crazy space banjo effects. Anna and Kevin's parts fell right into place and we got B3 monster Joe Doria to add to the ethereal vibe.

This was from The Jongleurs final album, 3, which was recorded live in one day by Chris Garges in Charlotte, NC on our final tour back in 1998. These guys always pushed me musically, and I really grew as a musician in our years together. They also encouraged me to bring in some of my own compositions and this is one of my first stabs at writing.
