Tough city soul meets raw earthy blues is the perfect description for P-A-U-L’s sophomore release “Gunshot Lullaby.”  Teaming up with Eric Hoegemeyer (Crud, Go Cash Go) to co-engineer and produce the new album, P-A-U-L also enlisted Kid Rock engineer (and Rustbelt Studios owner) Al Sutton to create the final mixes.
This collection of songs, a memoir, is an attempt to convey a lifetime in a forgotten city.  P-A-U-L delivers whiskey-drenched vocals and six string prowess all of which seem to be preached from a bar room pulpit.  It’s an authentic Detroit sound – layered with church AND street.  With plans to tour the UK this fall, don’t miss this opportunity
to see P-A-U-L live and local!  Check out www.p-a-u-lmusic.com  or
www.myspace.com/paullamb for more information on P-A-U-L.

Hot off her top-rated television appearance on Bravo’s “Tim Gunn’s Guide To Style,” soulful rock diva Eliza returns for a very special hometown performance in spectacular fashion with Chris Mick on guitar and Ron Wolfe on percussion.  Eliza Neals is an outstanding emerging female artist on the independent east coast music scene. Moving recently from her hometown of Detroit to New York City, Eliza has lifted audiences and sold out the top rooms including Joe's Pub, Cutting Room, Knitting Factory and the Bitter End. Her latest album "No Frogs for Snakes," exposes Eliza's talents for deeply romantic, almost obsessive ballads along with raucous rock anthems soaked in blues.  Additional information on Eliza is on her web sites: elizaneals.com and myspace.com/elizaneals.

Ferndale-based blues/roots rock group Bixy Lutz was formed in 2007.  With over a hundred shows under their belt, this hard working trio is making their mark on the Detroit scene.  More information on Bixy Lutz is available at myspace.com/bixylutzmusic

To attend the VIP BBQ and Meet and Greet please RSVP to info@ontherocksdetroit.com.  For additional show information please call Memphis Smoke please at 248-543-4300.

Hoedown in Motown … On a Boat!

As the Detroit Princess shoved off from the dock, a lady flashed her breasts to the people on the mainland in between chants of "Let’s go Red Wings!" coming from the Downtown Hoedown ‘09 at Hart Plaza. DDays knew it was going to be that kind of a night. A place to see people and be seen, Shiprocked on the Detroit Princess, an event sponsored by On the Rocks Detroit, was a rowdy time featuring sets by Ty Stone and the Truth, Brandon Calhoon, Robin Horlock and Frankie D’ Angelo (from what we gathered from the audience, Ty Stone stole the show). After quick warm-ups with Frankie and Robin, Ty Stone and his lead guitarist Billy Reedy got the crowd moving with an impressive performance that left them cheering for an encore. Reedy said after the performance, “We just tried to put on a great show because that’s what we were there to do, and you can’t forget that.”

Local Atlantic Records’ artist Ty Stone is nominated for a plethora of awards at this year's Detroit Music Awards, and he’ll be following up the event by releasing a Kid Rock-produced EP on May 16.

He and the On the Rocks team even rented out the
Detroit Princess to celebrate the release with an event he’s dubbed
Shiprocked (tickets are available at www.myspace.com/shiprockeddetroit).

Before he steps foot on that boat though, he has
to find out just how big a winner he really is. Exciting times, as the
Stone himself attests…

What awards are you up for?
I
am up for Outstanding Acoustic Artist, Outstanding Rock/Pop Artist,
Outstanding Rock/Pop Vocalist and Outstanding Rock/Pop Songwriter.

I’ve had an outstanding year, apparently. It’s just an honor to be nominated. I’ve been practicing saying that.

ABOUT:

Since the 2008 passage of the Michigan film tax credits, there’s never been an opportunity like the Michigan Movie Networking Event. The event will bring together industry professionals from throughout the Midwest to network, discuss and learn about the opportunities the Michigan film industry has to offer. Special attempts have been made to bring both investors and distributors to this important first-of-its-kind event. Investors are looking for opportunities to benefit from the film industry in Michigan and distributors are looking for production houses with a catalog of movie products.

“This is an opportunity for everyone – from someone with an idea for a movie or an actress, to a bank with money to lend for a project – to come together, exchange cards and portfolios, network and get ideas off the ground,” says Alex Greene, Emmy- and Telly-award winning Creator of the children's TV program "My Bedbugs" and Executive Producer of Greenestuff Productions, one of the event’s speakers.

“This area has needed this event,” adds Lew Smith, chief operating officer of Vanir Entertainment, Inc., partners with The Crofoot Ballroom on the Michigan Movie Networking Event. “People have been so desperate to connect with others. This is a chance to get everyone in the room at the same time and on the same page – to grow the film industry in this state.” Smith said that from early promotion of the event, he’s already received commitments from people as far away as Traverse City, Chicago and Grand Rapids who plan to attend. Professionals from across four states have been invited. He added the Michigan Movie Networking Event is modeled after events of this type in Los Angeles, New York and Nashville.

Dan McGowan, of The Crofoot Ballroom, said, “This is one of those clean-everything-else-from-your-calendar events. It’s a chance to bring a hundred business cards and come back with a hundred business cards from people you might never have met otherwise.”

The Michigan Movie Networking Event is hosted by Vanir Entertainment, a Rochester Hills-based multi-media entertainment company, and The Crofoot Ballroom. Vanir kicks off its contributions to the Michigan film industry in April with the debut of the “Michigan Marquee” TV show on WTVS, Detroit’s Public Television station. The weekly, half-hour “Michigan Marquee” will feature interviews with industry insiders and up-to-date reports on film projects across the state. Portions of the first episode of “Michigan Marquee” will be filmed at the event!

The Crofoot Ballroom is located at 1 South Saginaw Pontiac MI. www.thecrofoot.com
