Re: Star Wars Figures for Future Fans

My name is Chris Smith from Memphis, TN. I am Hothiceplanet on Twitter and other sites like Myspace and Facebook. I am a huge Star Wars geek and want to get more involved in the Star Wars community.

I AM NOT associated with Toys for Tots in any way. I have bought and sold Star Wars toys online for many, many years. Over the past few years I would take some of the toys I would normally sell and donate them to Toys for Tots. This year I would like to do something a little different.

I would like to take the Star Wars figures that I would normally donate to Toys for Tots, and send these out to specific families myself.

If you know someone in need, please contact me either via email or on Twitter

I will choose at least 5 families from what I recieve to send Star Wars figures to.

This is something different and something I can get more involved in than just dropping of toys to Toys for Tots.

I am only sending out Star Wars figures and not just the toys. I want to use this to give back and to help out the Star Wars community also, by giving some kids who love Star Wars, but might not have the chance to get some of these figures.

I look at this as a small way to also help further the Star Wars community for the future.

I am doing this at my own expense, if anyone would like to help me and get more involved, you are welcome to contact me at...

Deadline to ship out for Christmas will be Dec. 14th, 2009.

Please let's rally together during this Christmas season to help make even one child's Star Wars' dream come true.

I have not seen this in the news as of yet.  Have anyone of you?
How Great is our God, What can they do with this Jesus??:  This
is so AWESOME!!!!!  God Bless

A Muslim man in Egypt killed his wife because she was reading
the Bible and
then buried her with their infant baby and an 8-year old
daughter.
The girls were buried alive! He then reported to the police
that an uncle killed the kids.
15 days later, another family member died. When they went to
bury him, they
found the 2 little girls under the sand - ALIVE!

The country is outraged over the incident, and the man will be
executed.. The
older girl was asked how she had survived and she says:- 'A
man wearing
shiny white clothes, with bleeding wounds in his hands, came
every day to feed
us. He woke up my mom so she could nurse my sister,' she said.
She was
interviewed on Egyptian national TV, by a veiled Muslim woman
news anchor. She
said on public TV, 'This was none other than Jesus, because
nobody else does
          things like this!'

Muslims believe Isa (Jesus) would do this, but the wounds mean
He really was
crucified, and it's clear also that He is alive! But, it's
also clear
that the child could not make up a story like this, and there
is no way these
children could have survived without a true miracle. Muslim
leaders are going to
have a hard time to figure out what to do with this.

With Egypt at the center of the media and education in the
Middle East , you
can be sure this story will spread. Christ is still turning
the world upside
down! Please let this story be shared. The Lord says, 'I will
bless the
person who puts his trust in me.' Jeremiah 17

Please forward to all on your list and God will reward you
abundantly!! Mark
8:38 which says, 'Therefore whosoever shall be ashamed of Me
and my Words in
this adulterous and sinful generation, the Son of Man shall
also be ashamed of
him when He comes in the glory of His Father with the holy
angels'.
Don't worry if those you have forwarded will respond or do
anything with
this message, j ust fulfill your part and shake off your
dust!....
        Jesus loves you.

Hi everyone out there, Hothiceplanet here,

First off, I love to talk to fellow Star Wars fans like myself. So feel free to drop me an email or comment to chat.

I have met alot of great and interesting people over the years thru the LOVE of this so called movie "Star Wars". I have always injoyed meeting people from all walks of life thru our common fanship.

I am a nice guy, easy to get along with, very easy going. I like to get out and do things but I do work a lot. I am a Star Wars geek at heart. Everybody I know just calls me the Star Wars guy.

Second off:

The memory I most strongly remember is:

When "Star Wars" was released in 1977 I was 7 years old, I was spending the night with my Aunt Sue who always would take us kids to a movie when we stayed the night.

This time around it was just me. I was looking in the newspaper to see which movie we could go see, I saw this movie called "Star Wars" and wanted to go, but it was rated PG and I was 7 and my overprotecting mother told me I could only go to see a G rated movie.

Well my aunt had heard good things about this movie and wanted to see it also (she was a big movie buff and that is the one thing I got from her).  So I had to call my mom and basiclly beg to go see this so called "Star Wars" movie. After a while she agreed to let me go and the rest is history.

The movie had only been out a few weeks when I went and I was completely blown away at 7 years old and sence then I have been everything "Star Wars".
Completely threw me into another world and changed me forever. I also know there are thousands of other fans out there that have had the same experience like me.

I also can still vividly remember the first time I saw each of the 6 Star Wars films. Later I will add to this blog my first experiences with "The Empire Strikes Back" and "Return of the Jedi".

So if anyone out there would like to share their stories with me and other around I would love to hear them.

Hey guys,

After the article I did in my local newspaper, one of my myspace friends "DarthBruticus" (link to his myspace page),  http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendid=46742428
Anyway he contacted me and wanted to do an interview with me for his show called "Darth Side Chats" on youtube. He does a 10 minute video show every other week and we did a phone interview and the show is up now at: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xXt8Sd6JyJE

I really enjoyed talking with Darth Bruticus, he was a really cool person to sit down and talk with.

I took a look at it and am very happy with the way it turned out. Please take a few minutes to listen to it and let me know what you think about it. He also has some other past episodes you can also check out.

By all means contact him if you are interested in doing an interview also. He would be happy to speak to other Star Wars fans like me. He is always looking for more fans to do interviews with.

Below is an article from today's newspaper (The Commercial Appeal) in Memphis, Tn about me (Chris Smith) and my Star Wars collection. In the article it says I have 383 figures, that is just what I have displayed, I have far more than that.

Fantasy obsessions of childhood grow into collections that keep the kid around

Chris Smith, 38, has been collecting Star Wars items since he was 8, the year after the movie was released.

"I'd have three times as much if I hadn't sold some of it," says Chris Smith of his 383-piece Star Wars collection.

It has been said that the only difference between men and boys is the price of their toys, but for some, price takes a back seat to passion.

"For guys, collecting is always about going back to the nostalgia of childhood," said Darin Clifft, a math teacher at Memphis University School, whose home office in Bartlett is lined from floor to ceiling with Incredible Hulk action figures, comic books and other toys.

"There's something about childhood we want to hold onto," Clifft said. "With women, (collecting) is about growing out of that awkward phase to something more grown up. Guys want to hold onto being a kid."

Clifft, 37, proudly displays all things Hulk, including water guns, backpacks, salt-and-pepper shakers, shower curtains and even a Hulk-themed Christmas tree. In all, he owns more than 50 action figures and 300 comic books in a collection he holds dearest after God, family and friends.

Ten dollars is his limit for any one item, so most pieces came from toy stores and big-box retailers. His most-prized item is an autographed photo with "The Incredible Hulk" television star Lou Ferrigno, taken at a Chicago convention in 1999.

The walls of his toy room are painstakingly organized in a 3-D checkerboard of action figures and comic books.

"You can't be a good math teacher and not be obsessive-compulsive," said Clifft.

"I was 6 years old, in the first grade, when the Hulk came on TV," said Clifft. "I was always a good student, but I started coming home with N's in conduct because I was making Hulk noises at school."

Describing himself as someone who's "not prone to anger," Clifft sees the Hulk as his alter-ego -- a Mr. Hyde to his Dr. Jekyll.

"The Hulk can just let loose with his rage whenever he feels like it," he said. "There's some freedom there."

Chris Smith, 38, is a collector of all things related to Star Wars.

As a child, he begged his mother to let him see the PG-rated "Star Wars" movie with his aunt.

"I was 7 when the original movie came out," said Smith. "From then on, everything was different. Pretty soon, I had everything."

Smith's bedroom and a spare room in his Berclair home are lined with bleacher-like display stands, where most of his 383 action figures reside.

Overhead, limited-edition character busts, some costing $50, line shelves. A Millennium Falcon hangs from the ceiling, and an R2-D2 drink cooler stands by his bed.

"Sometimes you get tired of it and think about how much you've spent," said Smith. "I'd have three times as much if I hadn't sold some of it. Finally, I admitted to myself that I'm a collector -- that's what I am."

Smith has Darth Vader and Boba Fett tattoos, and owns a cat named Luke Skywalker, but his plans to completely integrate Star Wars into his life don't end there.

"My girlfriend's aware of this. ... If I have a son, I've already got his named picked out -- Anakin," said Smith, referring to the name of the Star Wars character who morphs into Darth Vader.

Marc Kamler, of Hernando, who collects monster figures, said grown-up collectors have to have an understanding with their families.

"My wife and sons are OK with it, but when relatives are over, the (collection room) door stays shut," said Kamler, 37.

Kamler's home office houses more than 500 figures from multiple horror and fantasy genre comics and movies, including Spawn, Evil Ernie, Freddie Krueger, Warcraft and Hellboy. His office in the risk management department of Harrah's Casino Hotels is also a mini-horror museum.

"It's kind of funny. I've got Pinhead, Jason and Michael Myers figures there, and some people will come in and not notice. But others will say: 'Next time, why don't you come down to my office?' And that works for me," Kamler said.

He started collecting while he worked at KB Toys, where "half the paycheck went to using my employee discount."

Much of his collection still comes from large retailers ("Every trip to Wal-Mart, I have to go down the toy aisle"), as well as Spencer Gifts and Hastings.

Kamler's trophies include a 2-foot-tall, limited-edition model of the fire demon Balrog, from the "Lord of the Rings" series, and two Death Dealer statues that were hand-painted by the son of Frank Frazetta, the original artist.

Kamler owns about 500 figures and has no idea how much he has spent, but the least expensive pieces cost about $10.

"Do the math, and that's quite a figure on the low end," Kamler said.

Clifft and Smith labeled themselves "nerd" and "geek," respectively, but Kamler called himself an "addict," saying that once a collector goes this far, there's no good way to stop.

Clifft, though, put his toys into a larger perspective.

"I have fun with it, and I particularly enjoy it since I've got friends and family who see the Hulk and think of me," said Clifft.

"But if I had to tear it all down, it's not as important to me as a friend."

Hi everyone out there in this galaxy far, far away. I am going to give my review of the new animated feature of "Star Wars: The Clone Wars" and want to open this up for discussion. I welcome all opinions....

Review:

First off I am sure alot of fans with be saying this is just EU, but this isn't really just EU because George himself had a big hand in this. (Yes I am one of those fans loves anything Star Wars, I accept it as George's vision and we get to love it.)

To me this movie was just awesome, a lot of fun. This movie is really different from the live action movies and meant to be that way. The one thing in this movie that I am not crazy about is the opening of the movie. This movie doesn't open with the traditinal scroll of info to bring to up to date.

Back in the early waorl war I & II days (not positive on which war) before TV news was spread by radio and in news reels in theatres before feature movies. This movie opens like that bringing you up to date. This is "The Clone Wars", it is different.

I loved just about everything about this movie. You get ALOT of clone action. They did a great job personalizing the clone troopers, so you can care what happens to them. These are no longer the mindless following clones.(not that they were exactly that, but you get my point). Die hard fans will love this movie for its action and characters.

The relationship between Obi-Wan and Anakin takes the step between Episode II & III where they are brothers and no longer Master and Apprentice. I love Obi-Wan's sarcastic atttitude in this beginning series.

We get intrduced to Anakin's new Padawan learner Ahsoka Tano who is a 14 year-old Togruta (Shaak Ti). I love this new character she is pretty much everything a young 14 year-old is like. I love the sarcastic nature back and forth between Anakin & Ahsoka.

I actually really liked Asajj Ventress better in this movie than in the last cartoon network series. She was alot better too me in this. Count Dooku well is Count Dooku enough said.

I really liked the comedy of the battle droids in this one, just silliness but not too much. This movie was really funny.

Jabba the Hutt- great job on Jabba very close to the other movie verion.

Ziro the Hutt (Jabba's Uncle)- Very funny, kinda more female sounding than male. Reminded me of the old lady in "Poltergiest", ("this house is clear").

R2-D2: Was his normal great self.

C-3PO: Was his normal great idiot quality self.

Padme: Her look took some getting use too for me, but her character was her same great self. Voice sounds very close to Natalie's.

All and all I loved this movie really funny and lots and lots of war action. Very well done for animation.

I welcome all discussion on this blog.

After over 30 years of being part of and witnessing the rise and fall of Sith Lords and Jedi Knights, it is time for Star Wars fans to rise to the occasion; and celebrate May 25 as the Universal Day of the Jedi - a celebration of Star Wars by fans for fans...

The first Universal Day of the Jedi was celebrated on May 25, 2007, to coincide with the 30th anniversary of when George Lucas released Star Wars in 1977. The choice of this date made sense for fans across the world to celebrate the saga Lucas had delivered.

Hardcore Star Wars fans already look back and reflect on May 25 as a day of significance. Some people might criticize the concept by stating that Lucas doesn't intend to make any more Star Wars films.

The Star Wars galaxy is an ongoing and ever-changing place. With Lucas always making constant changes to subsequent DVD releases of the movies, there is also the Expanded Universe: a world of Star Wars that literally expands upon what Lucas has created - a whole line of books and comics that stretch the continuity even further than before; to which there appears to be no end point for their upcoming publications.

Not to mention the fact that in the very near future, we are also going to see the launch of two new Star Wars television series. The first, The Clone Wars, begins in 2008; and starts with a movie feature to be released in theaters. The second is the live-action television show, said to be hitting the screens sometime in 2009.

There is also the ongoing hunger of the Star Wars collector: action figures, merchandise, you name it, it's out there - and it won't stop coming out. And games... there's always the gaming community as well. Star Wars is with us to stay. It has for 30 years, and will continue to be with us just like the Force. So, why shouldn't fans find an official day to celebrate how much of an impact Star Wars has had on us?

The Last Supper of the Jedi

With many fans expressing their appreciation via fan films, fan fiction, custom designed figures, models, and costumes, this is another means by which we can salute George Lucas.

I believe I would not be alone in the Star Wars fan world by stating that the films had an immense impact on me as a child. Who would have foreseen that the love for the movies would continue into adulthood? It is the genius of Lucas that interwove elements of myth and legend, spiritual questioning, and morals forming life lessons, into the plot of Star Wars.

Universal Day of the Jedi - May 25 Many of us, like me, have children now ourselves, and share and enjoy the Star Wars galaxy with our kids.

So, how exactly does a Star Wars fan celebrate Universal Day of the Jedi? Simple ways could be watching the entire saga with friends and families... for those of us who are geekier and extreme, dress as a Jedi and attack your co-workers with your Force FX Lightsabers! Better yet, film it happening!

Join us in celebrating Universal Day of the Jedi on May 25. May the Force be with you!
