By: The Big O    November 23 at 12:19pm

The dark horse was let out of the gate when the Wayne Mills Band started there weekend with a show in Huntsville, Al. After sharing the tunes with a great crowd of people it was time to load up and head south toward Birmingham, AL to get ready for the next show. We arrived in Birmingham with the sunrise and found our way over to crash at Jennifer and Odie Oden’s house.(thank you Jennifer for everything) . After hanging out for a few minutes it was time to rest our heads, so we caught a pillow and looked at our eyelids. Upon waking, the smell of cheeseburger and jager wondered through out the house. We knew it was a start to a solid day. There were a few hours to kill so we laid around watching football ,snacking, and enjoying the down time..(You don’t get much of this) We also had Odie’s Mother and Cool Granny stop in to meet us in which led to Odie’s Granny falling in love with Wayne. Especially when he pulled out the guitar and sang her a couple of songs…NOW SHE IS FEELING LIKE A OLD WILLIE NELSON SONG (be looking for this title on the new cd in a couple of weeks!)

After everyone got rejuvenated it was time to take off to two places. First Jamey Johnson/ Randy Houser’s (a close friend) show at the Alabama Theatre and then to our show at the Iron Horse. After stopping in to see Jamey and to invite him over when he got done we got to the show. The roof of the Iron horse was about to be blown off due to it being a hell of a time!!!! Wayne Mills Band brought everything and made Hoover Happening !!! As they rocked out the show, there invitation was answered by Jamey Johnson and James Otto and they made their appearance with the band on stage! It was great time and thank you guys!!!

Well you would think the story would end there but it doesnt’t. After loading the equipment up in the rain we made it on down to our hotel rooms and got settled in. Only to find out everyone is hungry, Well If you know Curt Brewer he ain’t gonna let anyone be hungry. He decides to be a soldier and walk to Waffle House and back. He brings back only what I think would be a piece of heaven, if heaven was food! Thanks Curt!!! The sandwiches and hash browns made me feel scattered covered capped and chunked!!! After eating we just hung out, took it easy, and Odie got a little guitar lesson and some songs were created.

In closing, I would like to say if you have been to a Wayne Mills Band show then you have tasted good times and challenge you to a 2nd,3rd or 4th. Etc. plate of some down home cooking of great music. If not I would be going to WAYNEMILLSBAND.COM and seeing when they will be in your neck of the woods and having my calendar marked!!! Always a blast!!!!!!!!!

Ever wondered what it would be like to live a weekend with the Wayne Mills Band? Let me start off by saying... Hell yeah!!! Friday started out to kinda suck the transmission went out in the travel van leaving us shipwrecked on the shores of Tuscaloosa, AL. After a few adjustments we got Wayne's truck down from Nashville( thanks to Aaron (Wayne's Brother) and the dodge nitro fired up and going. Having to be in Baton Rouge by 9 we needed to move fast we have already had a little over half a day spent. We pull in to LSU with seconds to spare and set up shop. If you weren’t there, man let me tell ya "They tore it up".. After rocking out LSU we packed up and headed toward the next show. We got to come into contact with the very nice Baton Rouge P.D after getting a warning for no tag (due to car being 3 weeks old and haven’t had time to get to courthouse) we headed toward Lake Martin Oyster Bar. Somehow we decide we are making good on time and need to taste a little of The Big Easy. At 7A.M. we were on the sidelines of the Mississippi River. A new nickname "bumper stumper" was created when Brad Williams decided to dive in the river in 40-50 degree weather. The name got created when he nose dived straight into a rock and grabbed a concussion and a bloody face. After getting him cleaned up and back in reality we finally get going again and land hungry in Dadeville at 3 pm at my favorite oyster bar" Lake Martin Oyster Bar". Everyone is hungry and whipped so we grab a great lunch/dinner and take off to rest before the show. The best southern hospitality was shown when Shotsie McDuffie and family let us crash and get charged up at there nice place on the Lake. The 3 hr nap felt like heaven and was a kick start to having such a fun wonderful night. The show started outside and was moved indoors due to Mother Nature not giving us much to warm up with. As always Wayne Mills Band brought the heat and fired up a great time. Also Wayne got to have a reunion with a one of his best friends "Cowboy" who just got back from duty in Afghanistan(Thank you and all military people who serve our country) and it was good to have a member back home and getting down.(Well deserved)
In closing this wild story on out. If you have or haven’t been to a show you need to go to WayneMillsBand.com and check out when they will be in your area and make sure to mark the calendar cause fun is just one guitar string away!!!!!!

Hello folks,
It's been a long time since I've filled you in and there has been so much happen I'm going to have to give the nut shell...

Over the past few years my band has made a huge transition.  Most of you who have come to my shows over the past decade have seen quite a few changes in the line up.  All for different reasons, but, mainly just the fact that life took us on different paths.  These days I have a consistent drummer, Curt Brewer, who also doubles as my co-manager.  You may have seen Curt on the Tanya Tucker reality show, Tuckerville.  He is the whacked out "Babysitter" who provides the comedy relief.  Another constant in the band is Gary Craig on bass guitar.  Gary has traveled the world playing music and also writes music for movies and t.v. shows.  The guitar spot is filled by different players depending on the size of the venue and what town we are in.  Kyle Wilson, who also has a band with his brother Chad, called John Brown, fills the spot most of the time.  Kyle and Chad are on Sony Records and are recording their first record.  When he's not available Luke Davis comes out with us.  He is a Kentucky native living in Nashville.  Josh Newcomb is the newest addition to the lineup.  He lives in Nashville but is originally from Arkansas.  He fronts his own band called Indian Rodeo and comes out with us when available.  Last but not least is Rowdy.  I met Rowdy through Jamey Johnson.  He is a full time player for Jamey and only comes out with us when they're not on the road.  Rowdy also produced my up and coming record, The Last Honkey Tonk.

My new record is due out in August.  We went to Hollywood, CA to record the lead vocals, drums, keyboards, guitars, and bass tracks.  While in Hollywood, we had Presley Tucker, Tanya Tucker's daughter come to the studio and sing a duet with me.  She sounds just like her Mom!  We flew back to Nashville and recorded the steel guitar, back ground vocals, and will probably cut two more songs to complete the project.  Oh... Taylor Hicks will most likely play Harmonica!

Two more new additions to WMB is co-manager Jerri Petty in Kansas.  Jerri will be handling most of the marketing and promotion.  The other is Lacy McCully with Southwest Music Group in Austin, TX. who will be booking us.  They Rock by the way!!

These days I have to say, even though I do miss my past band mates, that I'm having more fun than I've had in years.  The shows are rockin' and getting better every time.  After the release of this album, I will have 6 full lenth records and I feel like our original material has gotten better with each one.  If you haven't been to a WMB show in a while... Please come. I promise you wont regret it!

Sorry if this blog was a little boring but I hope it filled you in a little on where I'm at today.  I'm having a ball and I want yall to re-up on WMB.  I'll do my best to start bloggin at least every other week to fill you in with a road report.  It will be a little more entertaining than this blog... Gauranteed!

Thanks for taking the time...
Wayne

To view photos with story visit www.waynemillsband.com and go to Road Trip.

Howdy ladies and gents. Boy, do we have a special one to tell ya about this time around! On Friday we got to Side Pockets in Florence, AL around 6:30, and had to hustle to get sound check done by the time we were on the radio for a live broadcast. We played over the airwaves of north Alabama for three solid hours. If you get a chance, check out 92.3. They play a hell of a variety, and T.C. was a real cool guy to work with during the broadcast. When we were riding into town, Wayne said " let's see what that station sounds like." The first song was by the Drive-by Truckers, and I knew right then and there it was a fine station!  At the conclusion of the broadcast we proceeded to rock for another two hours. After the show we headed on down to the Marriott for some shenanigans! I'm not gonna go into details here but let's just say we got a noise complaint at 7:30 am for playing and singing too loud. IF IT'S TOO LOUD, YOU'RE TOO OLD!!  No, no I'm Just kidding. Our apologies to the poor folks in the adjacent rooms. It was time to get some rest. We had a big day comin up.

08/16/08

Well Saturday started out just like an August weekend should. We sat by the pool and soaked up the sun and scenery. We met some good folks and had us a relaxing day in the north Alabama sun. We had a good meal from Logan's Roadhouse that fueled us up for the night to come. It was a small but enthusiastic crowd on Saturday night. After the crowd really started getting into the show, we paused for a minute to bring our friend Matt up onstage. Matt is a U.S. serviceman who is headed back to Iraq for his second tour. We wanted to show our appreciation for his sacrifices by having him up for a minute. What came next damn near made us all cry. Matt proceeded to have his girlfriend April come up onstage. She had a really puzzled look on her face, but it didn't take long for her to figure out what was going on. Matt looked her dead in the eye and slowly got down on one knee. She started to shake and well up with tears. I nearly lost it right about there. With a resounding "YES", the whole crowd cheered. I personally have never had something so cool happen on stage while I was playing. Though that was most certainly the highlight of our night, the fun wasn't over yet. Not too long after the proposal Matt started shouting into a wireless mic from the back of the room. Wayne couldn't figure out who was yelling his name, and was looking around the room like "who the hell is that?!". Wayne finally saw that it was Matt and started to chuckle when he figured out what was going on. You see, Wayne's birthday hit at midnight and Matt and April brought him a roll tide birthday cake to the stage! What an amazing night of wine, women, and song!!!
After the show, Matt had us out to his lake house for a good old-fashioned hootenanny!!  We broke out the acoustic guitars and played for another couple of hours for Matt's close friends and family. We had a hell of a sing along that included a show stopping version of  "Seven Bridges Road" done in 23 part harmony. And, it turns out, Dwight's son, John Paul has the same birthday as Wayne.  You should have seen those two.  Whooo!  Are you kiddin' me!! We want to tell Matt, April, Dwight, Jeanette, and everybody else that was out there thanks from the bottom of our hearts. You have no idea how special of a night it was for us. We had one hell of a good time and can't wait to see ya'll again. Well, I better run for now but check back next week cause we're headed to Bristol Motor Speedway, and you KNOW there'll be some good stories after that one!

How ya'll doin'? Friday the 8th was a pretty typical day in the life of the Wayne Mills Band. Wayne and I hopped in the van around 3 and headed down I-65 to meet ol' Gary and Curt down in Athens, AL. Once we met up we caravanned on down to Birmingham. The Club was a pretty cool joint called the Barking Kudu. In keeping with the safari motif, there were trophy animals all over the place keeping an eye on us while were playing. Pretty cool albeit a little unnerving trying to rip a face-melting solo while a 9ft giraffes head is staring you down! It was the first show as a four piece since I joined the band. A good time was had by all. It was good to meet some of Wayne's old buddies....that means you Ashley.....and we can't wait to see ya'll again. Immediately after the show we had the pleasure of watching some poor dude who had no business driving prove to everyone just exactly WHY he had no business driving! As we were loading out we looked up this steep embankment only to see an SUV teetering on the edge. He had er' hung up real good with the two front wheels hanging over the edge and the two back wheels on top. The sharp edge of the hill had the center of the vehicle hung up to the point where there was no traction to be had. I ran up the hill and had a good laugh with a couple of Birmingham's finest. Apparently the unfortunate driver had forgotten that R meant reverse and D meant drive. The police officers called a tow truck for the fella and instead of giving him a dui,  they got him a safe ride home. What a lucky dude.

After the excitement on top of the hill, it was time for Wayne and I to say goodbye to Gary and Curt and head on up to Gadsden, AL for Waynes acoustic gig the following night.

08/09/08
Well, we made it to gadsden early saturday morning and had the distinct pleasure of staying at Albert and Sharon Simpsons' house. Albert was out beating up the highway, but Sharon showed us some true hospitality. When we came to that afternoon we headed off to the worlds biggest yard sale  . You never know what you can find at a good yard sale. You can get a Frank Sinatra record, a good set of brass knuckles, an ashtray, and an antique razor all at the same place!!  Hell, I even found a new Winchester belt buckle. Wayne picked up a cool old toy semi-truck for his boy Jack, and we headed back to the house to catch a nap before show time. We got to Blackstone pub a little behind schedule as the nap we took was a little deeper than expected. The show was a really cool little deal and it was fun seeing Wayne play with his old buddies (Guys from The Skeeters.) I got up for a couple of songs to play some guitar and sing some harmony.  After the show we made the 40 min drive to Fort Payne, AL. We went to our friend Dan's house where a world-class game of ping-pong commenced upon arrival. Sad to say Wayne and I got our asses handed to us by Paul and Dan. It wasn't long before the ping-pong gave way to motor sports. Dan has a Rhino, which is a side-by-side atv, and a dirt bike that Wayne decided to brave. While Dan and I were tearing up the swamp on the Rhino, Wayne was out tear-assing around on the Bike. Dan and I headed back up to the house and when we got there Paul yells " Wayne's down!" We hauled ass back over to the scene of the crash. It seems that in the excitement of the night and the smell of exhaust and mud,  Wayne got a little ahead of himself and failed to notice the barbed-wire fence that skirts the property. As the bike got tangled up in the wire, Wayne went ass-over tin cups and over the handle bars straight into the dirt. Wayne got a little dinged up but all in all he was pretty lucky. That little wreck coulda' been a hell of a lot worse. After that we figured it was probably time for a little bit of shut-eye.

08/10/08
The next day we woke up bright and early and headed to the Woods to do some serious off-roading. It seems like if you want to live in the Fort Payne area, you have to own a Rhino atv or they wont let you in. We got to the edge of some real gorgeous property where we unloaded the Rhino's and headed off into the woods. We made several stops along our trip including a beautiful crystal clear spring that all the youngens' splashed around in for a bit. I thought about jumping in but when they told me it was only 57 degrees, I promptly decided against it. We spent the whole day racing around the woods with a whole bunch of good Alabama folks and were thouroughly exausted by the end of the day. We still had the task of making it back to Nashville. We got back to Paul's house and loaded ourselves in the van. By the time we made it back to Nashville, it was 11 o'clock at night and i was whipped. My neck and back are still sore from haulin' ass around the woods on those things. It was a great weekend and thanks to all who made it such a fun and exciting run. We'll see ya'll soon!
