Hello Everyone! OK- Some of you may see the subject line of this email and wonder "what the ...?" For those people, here goes... If you aren't wondering, just skip down... I am now living in Phoenix Arizona. I met the most amazing man, and after dating long distance for 7 months, spending hundreds of dollars on plane tickets, ect, I decided to move out here to be with him. I have been here 3 weeks, and so far I am loving it! Chad Jennings is his name, and he flies F-16 jets for the Airforce... So he is kind of a badass, as I am discovering! We met in February, when he casually set down in seat 25C on a Delta Flight... I was in 25B, and the rest is history! So a few weeks ago, I packed up all of my stuff, (thanks for the help Josh, Donna, Justin, Dad, and Steve!) and drove across the country. I was in my truck, pulling my horse trailer with all of my belongings, and my dad was a day or so behind me driving my Jetta. This was an exciting adventure. Here is a small piece of advice... If you ever break down in Louisiana, DON'T GET OUT OF THE CAR!!! Just ask a few of the resident alligators that live in the ditches along the side of the road... Anyway, the drive was amazing. I saw so many beautiful sights. Not quite the Forest-Gump-running-on-the-road kinda sights, but at least some stuff that was new to me. Dirt devils, giant cactus', mountains, animals, casinos, and border patrol stops, they were all there! And no matter what anyone says, yes, southwest Texas is sparse, but beautiful. It's crazy to be driving on a freeway, and The US is to your right, and Mexico is on your left! Thanks also to my Cousin Diane and family for putting me up for the night in Dallas! So I am here safe and sound, working part time at a country station (1025, Today's KNIX) Demure got here a few days ago and is adjusting as well as expected, (which means he harassed a lady horse and got his butt kicked. He is now laid up, but will be fine in a week or so) Thanks so much to Colleen for getting to the farm at 5am to load him up in the shipping van. That is a true FRIEND! I am learning so much military stuff... And yes, I am required to call the Colonel, Chad's boss, "sir". It's kinda fun! I went to a "roof stomp", a post naming ceremony, and some kind of farewell party for someone... All of these things mean guys in uniform drink... Alot. I start teaching riding lessons in mid September when the high temp of the day won't be 109 anymore. So I am really looking forward to getting back into that. I really feel so lucky and blessed to be here. I am also so grateful to have such wonderful friends back home. Love to you all, and see you soon! Jamie Massey

Current mood: thankful
I am off to Gr-ma's to eat all the non-meat-soaked veggies! Mashed potatoes with no gravy, cranberry sauce in the shape of a can, and the side of green beans that don't have any ham cooked in them... (thanks Mom!)
I will be asked why don't I have a boyfriend? Why aren't I married? When am I going to have kids to place at the kids table?
I will tell them I will go get my dog if they want me to! She would be happy to sit at the table and eat turkey...
But I love it. Every moment spent with my Grandmother is special, and I am thankful to have the 91 year-old woman still in my life. She is amazing. She will sit next to me. She always does.
And I am thankful for you. Yes you. Reading this. You are awesome.
Whoever you are and wherever you are... Thank you!

My Dad and I adoped a dog over the weekend from a place called Dog Pack Rescue. www.dogpackrescue.com He was looking for a companion for his dog at home.
We got the sweetest female basset hound! They have breeds of all shapes and sizes, even purebreds.
Dog Pack Rescue rescues dogs from high kill animal control facilities in the Northwest Georgia area. They then take them home and do all the necessary vet care they need, and assess their personalities to find them a good match.
At their farm, there are no cages. The dogs have big fields of grass and trees in which to run. The people at Dog Pack Rescue spend all weekend taking dogs to different PetSmart locations trying to have them all adopted out. It is a very cool place, and these people have the BIGGEST hearts!
My Dad and I adopted Elvis, and for $150 it included being spayed, microchipped, all shots and is heartworm tested.. After spending the weekend with her, my Dad absolutely loves her and was exactly what he was hoping for!

Day two - get up for breakfast at 8. I went down to the corral at 8:45, where Chestnut was patiently waiting for me, all saddled up and ready to go. Another ride, and more beautiful scenery. At one point, I am behind T.J., and we all start to gallop. Jumping sage and dodging trees, all of a sudden T.J.'s, horse spooks HARD to the left… Well, of course my pony followed! I stayed on, and then noticed why they spooked. Not 20 feet to my right was a 2000lb male buffalo! T.J. turned around and said GO!!! So we sped away from the bull, hoping to God that he wasn't giving chase! I had no idea just how aggressive these animals are! Adrenaline pumping, we continued to run for a while until we were sure he was far behind! This stuff NEVER happens in Atlanta!!!
Wednesday night was the famed "Cookout Ride." It was a ride to the top of Spencer's Mountain. Our dinner would be there waiting for us. Well, the skies were threatening, but we all decided to go anyway… Well, who was the dumbass who didn't have a raincoat? That would be ME! We mount up and start out. We get about 45 minutes out, and then the skies open up… It was the hardest rain I have ever been in. It's the kind that when you are driving, you have to pull over! It started out raining, then hailed, and then SNOWED! Um, yeah… Chestnut and I both with no raincoat. Not that it mattered after 15 minutes! Everyone was soaked! Obviously the cookout was going to be cancelled, so we turned for home.
At one point, TJ asked if we wanted to go home the way we came, or do some "off-roading" to get home quicker. So off road we went! I found myself, straddling this soaking wet saddle, a pool of water in my saddle, and my boots overflowing. We were sliding down muddy mountains trying to avoid trees, rocks and each other! The rain never let up. Chestnut was literally sitting down sliding down muddy mountains. What a COOL horse!!! I think my horse would have just laid down and given up… Thank God for the tough ranch horses at Triangle X!
More to come!

My Trip
I had always wanted to go back. Ever since I was 7 years old, and my parents pulled up to the Triangle X ranch in our RV that he had driven us in for the last month. Why wait any longer? I decided to go. I had a week off, and nothing to do, so I booked a trip.
Thanks to my Dad insisting that I take the first flight out of Atlanta, I ended up showing up hours before other guests. So I did the only logical thing I could! I sat on my porch and read Harry Potter. When a few hours had passed, and my ass was numb, I felt like a hike. So I set out and ran up the backhill behind my cabin. I walked around a bit, and went back so I wouldn't get lost. I later found out that you should always take bear spray with you. Bear Spray!!! Like mace, for bears. That was the last hike I took alone!!!
The ranch had a cookout the first evening, where you met all of the guests. There were 3 other groups from Atlanta. I also met T.J. who is the head wrangler. He asked me about my riding experience. I told him I rode a lot, and I wanted a horse that would be "fun." That is all I said. My first night at the Triangle X was a low key one. I had a few beers on the porch of my cabin, staring at the most amazing view. I then went to bed early, as I didn't want a hangover on day one!
I got down to the corral that morning excited to meet the horse who would be my trusty mount for the week. This would be the horse that I would climb up and down mountains with, the horse who would boldly gallop with me through the buffalo. First ride - met my horse "Chestnut." At first I was a little disappointed.
He was about 14 3' and as round as he was tall. Any yep, you guessed it, Chestnut. I originally had visions of mounting this 16 hand paint mare named Teton (or something like that) and galloping through the trails, not trying to straddle this little pony with a weight problem.
The first ride set out, and I met Tony, Gerry, Chris, Tony's wife, and TJ… That was it. I knew just by looking at him that this was going to be a good week. TJ would be our wrangler for the week. All the other people on my ride had been coming for years. Gerry-an Atlantan, actually had worked at the ranch 20 years ago! That is why TJ was going to be our guide all week.
As I mounted my short, chunky, chestnut pony, I decided to make the best of it. I gave him a peppermint, and we were instant friends! We struck out on our first ride. We climbed to the top of a mountain, and saw some amazing views. We then were to go to the part called the religious ride. It was a part where you just haul ass on this skinny trail where you are dodging the branches and trees. They whip by you and you have to bob and weave. When I got out of the trail and TJ had pulled us up, I was elated! My adreneline pumping, I exclaimed HELL YEAH! And then I asked why it's the religious ride. He said most people go through there yelling OH GOD OH GOD OH GOD! What does that say about me???
On a side note, on that first ride, there was a couple with us that joined us as we were leaving the corral. Turned out that they thought they were going to be on the Lesson Ride, not the fast ride… Not a good day for them.
The first day, ride two we were getting a little more comfortable on the trails. It seemed that most people wanted to avoid the fast rides with TJ. Great for me! Less people, less dust…. We crossed the road, went through the gate and I saw over 100 Elk… Well, turns out they were grazing on our horses pasture land, so we were invited to gracefully discourage them to exit the pasture… which basically meant GO! We charged through the pasture and galloped straight into the herd! This would be the first time that a twinge of pride would enter my heart regarding my horse, Chestnut. It was as if he knew they were eating HIS grass! (I mentioned that he had a little weight problem) So it seemed that this was personal for him! He pinned his ears, dug in and CHARGED!!! Elk scattered like we had blown daffodil seeds off the stem! My pony was very proud of himself!
So TJ is a great storyteller. He has led a very interesting life, and he is a great horseman. He also has an affinity for telling jokes. Well, one of my favorite things to do is to tell long winded pretty bad jokes… So it was on! Each day I told a few, and I got some new material from the guys. Always funny! I was immediately accepted into the club.
Enough for now-more to come in Part Two!

I hate mushrooms. Really, I think they are slimy little pieces of fungus. However, I feel like I should eat them. So about once a month, I try one. EVERY time I eat it, I hate it! But I think eventually it won't matter anymore. Then I won't have a life spent picking mushrooms off pizzas, off sandwhiches, and so forth. I am a vegetarian, so I am enough of a pain in the ass at the dinner table.
So, my next inner struggle is my fear of water. As a child, I was forced to learn to waterski. My dad tossed me in Lake Lanier, had a buddy put me up on the skis, and away I went. I stayed up until my little 8 year old arms couldn't hold the rope anymore. After I went down, Dad turned the boat around, and within arms reach yelled, "I'll be right back, I'm gonna go get Bill out of the water!" Then he drove off. An 8 year old girl, bobbing alone in the middle of lake lanier. OK-My dad does apologize for this ALL THE TIME now, but the damage was done. When he brought the boat back to get me, I was comatose.
So now, as an adult, I have an irritional fear of open water.
So I went out and got a kyack.
Kyacking adventure #1 is coming soon...
