1. KILLER

Written by Gene Simmons and Vincent Cusano
Published by Hori Productions America, Inc. (ASCAP) & Street Beat Music (ASCAP)
Original version appears on the album "Creatures of the Night" by Kiss (1982)

Performed, produced, engineered and mixed by DoubleVirgo

DoubleVirgo: "In keeping with my tradition of taking 'post-klassic' tunes and 'klassic-ifying' them, I felt that 'Killer' would go well with an 'I Stole Your Makin' Love'-style arrangement. Some of the changes are exactly the same! So I ended up with a Gene/Vinnie tune with some Paul-esque vocals, plus a bit of Ace-inspired guitar and Peter-like fills. Is it good? I dunno. Do I like it? Indeed I do. Do you like it? Let Me Know."

2. I STILL LOVE YOU

Written by Paul Stanley and Vincent Cusano
Published by Hori Productions America, Inc. (ASCAP) & Street Beat Music (ASCAP)
Original version appears on the album "Creatures of the Night" by Kiss (1982)

Performed by Gods of Fire

Prometheus: vocals
Saucy Jack: 6-string guitars
DJ Blood Sacrifice: 7-string guitars, keyboards
Evil Thunder: bass
Helios: drums

Produced, engineered and mixed by Seth Diamond at The Orange Room (Brooklyn, NY)
Drums recorded by Chris Coluzzi and Seth Diamond

DJ Blood Sacrifice (Gods of Fire): "We were attracted to the dark mood of 'I Still Love You.' The song is very epic and gave us a lot of space to showcase our own personality, while keeping the spirit of what Kiss created. This mix was specially engineered to have maximum emotional impact while playing on a boom box, held above your head in the front yard of the woman you yearn for."

3. LICK IT UP

Written by Paul Stanley and Vinnie Vincent
Published by Hori Productions America, Inc. (ASCAP) & Street Beat Music (ASCAP)
Original version appears on the album "Lick It Up" by Kiss (1983)

Performed by Future 86

Courtney Samborsky: lead and backing vocals
Larry Nimmo: guitars, bass, backing vocals
Armand Minassian: drums
Ron Zito: additional backing vocals

Produced, engineered and mixed by Larry Nimmo

Larry Nimmo (Future 86): "Despite the fact that it's one of the simplest songs in the entire Kiss oeuvre, there's no denying that 'Lick It Up' is an incredibly catchy tune. The main riff played throughout the verses and choruses is instantly recognizable and certainly helped Kiss usher in the non-makeup era with a 'Love Gun'-worthy bang. In recording our version, I didn't want to play it completely straight since the original is already great for that. Instead, I thought it would be cool to throw in some Kiss-like riffs here and there to give our cover it's own life and also have a little fun in the process. As a kid, I would always listen to my Kiss records while staring at the album covers and inserts. I would also read the liner notes at length. I'm not quite sure why, but for some reason I'd always assumed that Vinnie Vincent was in fact Vini Poncia, credited so extensively on 'Dynasty' and 'Unmasked.' Of course, I now know that wasn't the case, but I still loved the idea of blending a hint of Vini's influence into our cover tune."

Published by Hori Productions America, Inc. (ASCAP) & Street Beat Music (ASCAP)
Original version appears on the album "Lick It Up" by Kiss (1983)

Performed, produced, engineered and mixed by Steve Brown

Steve Brown: "First of all, 'A Million To One' is a great, great song! Great melody, stellar chord progression and most importantly... a real, emotional, believable vocal. I knew right away where I wanted to go with it... a little modern, a little retro. I hope Stanley Eisen approves! I added everything but the pool and hot tub. The track has absolutely massive production! Mutt Lange would be proud. It's just killer. Everyone I've played the song for asks, 'Why isn't this on the radio right now?' 5. BOYZ ARE GONNA ROCK

Written by Vinnie Vincent
Published by Chrysalis Songs (BMI)
Original version appears on the self-titled debut album by the Vinnie Vincent Invasion (1986)

Performed by Mike Weeks (with Andre LaBelle and T.J. Racer)

Mike Weeks: vocals, guitars
T.J. Racer: bass
Andre LaBelle: drums

Produced, engineered and mixed by Mike Weeks
Drums recorded by Bruce Olsen

Mike Weeks: "When I heard the original Vinnie Vincent Invasion record for the first time in 1986, I thought, 'This guy's playing is off the scale!' Here was someone who went in and made an album exactly the way he wanted it, without compromise. To me, that's the mark of a true artist, regardless of genre. I shot for a relatively close interpretation of 'Boyz Are Gonna Rock,' which stands as my tribute to Vinnie Vincent for the inspirational tailwind he's given me."

6. BACK ON THE STREETS

Written by Vinnie Vincent and R. Freeman
Published by Chrysalis Songs (BMI) & Go Fast Music
Original version appears on the self-titled debut album by the Vinnie Vincent Invasion (1986)

Performed, produced, engineered and mixed by Jazan Wild

Jazan Wild: "My very first Kiss concert featured Vinnie Vincent. This was during the 'Creatures of the Night' era and Kiss hadn't even announced that Ace wouldn't be there. What a crazy way to introduce a new member! I remember running up to the merch stand to buy a shirt and program and wondering, 'Where's Ace?' But let me tell you, halfway through the opening song, my jaw hit the floor! Whoever this guy was, he ruled! Vinnie and Kiss tore the Norfolk Scope to the ground that night! Even though it was Vinnie's guitar playing that initially impressed me, I've since developed a great respect for his songwriting abilities. 'Back on the Streets' has always been one of my favorite tracks and I am thrilled to have recorded it for this project! I LOVE IT LOUD!"

7. THAT TIME OF YEAR

Written by Vinnie Vincent
Published by Chrysalis Songs (BMI)
Original version appears on the album "All Systems Go" by the Vinnie Vincent Invasion (1988)

Performed by Sheldon Tarsha, Ryan Roxie, Marko Pukkila & Troy Patrick Farrell

Sheldon Tarsha: vocals, keyboards
Ryan Roxie: guitars
Marko Pukkila: bass
Troy Patrick Farrell: drums

Produced by Marko Pukkila
Mixed by Sheldon Tarsha
Drums recorded by Muddy

Sheldon Tarsha: "I think I was 10 years old when I got the first Vinnie Vincent Invasion album so I'm excited and honored to be a part of this tribute. For our version of 'That Time of Year,' we performed the song basically the way it was written, each of us embellishing it with our own unique style. The original is a great song with fantastic production, so I listened to it very closely and chose to sing the lead vocals in a harder, raspier tone."

Troy Patrick Farrell: "Since it was difficult to experiment with Marko Pukkila being in Finland and Ryan Roxie in Sweden, our best bet was to stick with the original formula that worked so well in 1988. Tarsha hit every note and not many people can pull off Mark Slaughter! We didn't tune down for this song, either. Personally, I really dig the VVI albums and I think Vinnie was a freak on guitar. Hey Vinnie, I hope our version of 'That Time Of Year' doesn't keep you in hiding longer!"

8. LOVE KILLS

Written by Vinnie Vincent
Published by Chrysalis Songs (BMI)
Original version appears on the album "All Systems Go" by the Vinnie Vincent Invasion (1988)

Performed by Vic Rivera / Kelli McCloud

Kelli McCloud: lead and backing vocals
Vic Rivera: guitars, bass, drums, backing vocals

Produced, engineered and mixed by Vic Rivera

Vic Rivera: "This is such a well-written song by Vinnie that I made sure to stay as close as possible to the original arrangement, right down to including the swirling wind and other special sound effects. Having said that, Kelli and I did manage to put our own unique stamp on the song in a number of ways. For example, Kelli's delivery is significantly different from Mark Slaughter's in many spots. In fact, her interpretation is so passionate and convincing that I nixed all backing vocals in the bridges to let her lines shine through. For my end, I layered two or three rhythm guitar parts in the bridges, choruses and solos and re-composed the 'clean' guitar sounds in those sections, instead of just duplicating what was there. Additionally, while I stayed as close as possible to Vinnie's great lead guitar work throughout the majority of the tune, I substituted my own riffs during the second half of the main solo in order to give it some of my own feel and personality. Hopefully I achieved the results I was aiming for so fans of Vinnie, Kiss, Kelli and myself can all get something out of the track!"

Kelli McCloud: "Vic and I really had a great time recording 'Love Kills.' I'm so glad I was able to participate in this project because I've always wanted to do a cover of this song! Vic is an extremely talented musician and we plan on working together a lot more in the future."

9. UNHOLY

Written by Gene Simmons and Vinnie Vincent
Published by Horipro Entertainment Group, Inc. & Gene Simmons Worldwide, Inc. (ASCAP)
Original version appears on the album "Revenge" by Kiss (1992)

Performed by Curse God and Die

Paul LaPlaca: vocals, guitars, bass
Dennis Leeflang: drums

Produced, engineered and mixed by Paul LaPlaca

Paul LaPlaca (Curse God and Die): "When I was on the road with ZO2 in 2004 while opening for Kiss, 'Unholy' was one of the best songs in their set. So when the opportunity to work on this tribute came along, I was more than happy to jump on it! I decided to do a really creepy and disturbed rendition of the song, to push its limits both sonically and vocally. Unfortunately, my recording studio is directly above the home of a young family with a baby. Hopefully I didn't cause them too much trauma while tracking the eerie vocals. My cat was pretty freaked out, though, and wouldn't come near me for two days!"

10. I JUST WANNA

Written by Paul Stanley and Vinnie Vincent
Published by Horipro Entertainment Group, Inc. & Stanley World, Ltd. (ASCAP)
Original version appears on the album "Revenge" by Kiss (1992)

Performed by The Dead Zoo Keepers

Danny Stanton: lead and backing vocals
Dan McCafferty: lead guitar
Kurt Monson: all other instrumentation and programming
Al Carey: additional backing vocals

Produced by Danny Stanton and Kurt Monson
Engineered and mixed by Kurt Monson at A/V Mix Studios (New York, NY)

Danny Stanton (The Dead Zoo Keepers): "When we were approached about being on the album, 'I Just Wanna' was one of only two tracks left to choose. We were honestly surprised that nobody else had taken it yet! Cool song, great lyrics, very Kiss. The one thing we knew we didn't want to do was a straight cover. Why do that when Kiss had already done it so well? Instead, we chose to reinvent it! With that approach in mind, we added a new twist here and a new idea there, giving the track a more industrial arrangement. We had a blast recording it and we hope everyone enjoys hearing it!"

Bonus Track: TED POLEY (parody of UNHOLY)

Written by Gene Simmons and Vinnie Vincent (new lyrics by C.C. Banana)
Published by Horipro Entertainment Group, Inc. & Gene Simmons Worldwide, Inc. (ASCAP)
Original version appears on the album "Revenge" by Kiss (1992)

Performed by C.C. Banana (with Banana 7)

C.C. Banana: lead vocals
Chris Caffery: lead guitar
Paul LaPlaca: bass, additional guitars
Dennis Leeflang: drums
Kelli McCloud: backing vocals
Vic Rivera: backing vocals

Produced, engineered and mixed by Paul LaPlaca
Vocals recorded by Vic Rivera

Ted Poley: "In 1992, Danger Danger was opening for Kiss on the UK leg of the Revenge Tour. One night after our set I was backstage walking down the corridor toward our dressing room, when suddenly Paul Stanley entered from the other end! Paul has always been one of my heroes and it was a tremendous honor to be out on tour with him and Kiss. When I saw him approaching, I really wanted to say hello and introduce myself... but I got starstruck and lost my nerve! So I ended up just looking down at my shoes and walking past without saying anything. But when I got to the other end of the hallway, I heard Paul belting out my name at the top of his lungs... to the tune of their new single 'Unholy!' The words and melody just fit perfectly. 'Ted Poh-laaaaayyyyy!' I don't care if this sounds lame, but that was one of the greatest moments of my life!"

C.C. Banana: "Immediately after I heard Ted's story, I knew I had to write the song parody! Even though he is known for being a fairly levelheaded guy, I thought it would be funny to paint a picture of a Ted Poley whose rock star ego is completely out of control. A man whose sense of self-importance became overinflated at the peak of his fame and kept right on growing. In other words, what if Ted Poley were more like Gene Simmons, the man who sang 'Unholy' in the first place? That, my friends, is the circle of life."

The reunited Trixter performed for a sold-out crowd on November 28 at Dexter's Entertainment Complex in Riverdale, NJ. This was their first headlining appearance of 2008 and their first hometown NJ show in over 13 years. In addition to Trixter guitarist Steve Brown, also on hand for the event was Vic Rivera of AdrianGale, Crunch and Poley/Rivera along with rock & roll comic C.C. Banana, all of whom appear on the newly released tribute album "KISS MY ANKH: A Tribute To Vinnie Vincent." As previously reported, Steve's contribution is an elaborate acoustic version of the underground Kiss favorite "A Million To One," C.C. Banana offers up a twisted parody of "Unholy" and Vic collaborates on a haunting rendition of "Love Kills" by the Vinnie Vincent Invasion. Photos of Trixter's sellout NJ performance are available at the following link:

SplitScreen Entertainment recently spoke with Danger Danger frontman Ted Poley about the inclusion of his namesake song on the newly released tribute album "KISS MY ANKH: A Tribute To Vinnie Vincent." A parody of "Unholy" by Vinnie Vincent and Gene Simmons, the song has been reworked by rock & roll comic C.C. Banana as a good-natured roast of the veteran rock singer. What follows is a personal account of the original inspiration for the track, as told in Ted Poley's own words.

UNHOLY TED POLEY

by Ted Poley

I am what I am because of Kiss.

At age 14, Kiss changed my life.

They weren't just a rock band. They were larger-than-life gods.

They didn't just appear onstage. When they arrived, things fucking exploded.

These four guys, dressed in the most amazing costumes, would create a fantasy inside Madison Square Garden. There would be smoke and fire and bombs and blood spitting galore.

Before Kiss there were The Allman Brothers and The Bee Gees. Yes, there was even Deep Purple and The Beatles. And you can bet that I knew every word to every song. But when I heard Kiss play the opening notes of "Detroit Rock City" -- DADADADA, DADADADA, DADADADADADADADADADA, BOOM! -- and I saw the whole stage blow up... that's when I made up my mind.

That's when I knew what I wanted to do.

All of a sudden, everything made sense. That's why I'd been put here. This was to be my destiny. The Bee Gees no longer did it for me. I had been officially Konverted.

When the original Kiss mania was happening, I was a kid growing up in the 1970s. I remember I would always draw pictures of the band members, their stage, their equipment and of course, the pyro. Even though no one would ever see Kiss without their makeup, I would dream about meeting them and getting to talk to them. Drawing and daydreaming about Kiss got me through many a boring math class and I'm sure there's still at least one Kiss logo intricately carved into an old wooden desktop at good ol' Ramsey High in NJ.

Anyway, by now you probably get the idea that Kiss was a very important part of my life while growing up. So naturally, after many years of hard work, practice and a little bit of luck, it was a dream come true to make it into the big leagues and receive the supreme reward of opening for Kiss! Which brings us to the story of how I met Paul Stanley for the first time.

Actually, shortly before I'd met Paul, I'd had a brief yet memorable encounter with Gene Simmons. Okay, so now you get two stories for the price of one!

In 1992, Danger Danger was very hot on the MTV video countdown, a fact that helped land us the opening slot on the UK leg of Kiss' Revenge Tour. The very first night, we'd put on a kick-ass, over-the-top show, during which I'd even tossed 3 towels out into the crowd! Immediately after our performance, I ran offstage in my arena-playing, hyper-psyched state of mind, not quite looking where I was going. Let's face it, it didn't really matter because I had just opened for Kiss!

The next thing I knew, my head was bumping into something hard yet slightly fuzzy. I looked up to find Gene Simmons grinning back at me from above! As it turns out, I had just smashed face-first into his lower chest area, which tells you just how tall the guy is (or how short I am, if you prefer).

Upon looking down, Gene's first words to me were, "That was a really great show. You owe me $18."

Gene is a nice guy but he can be very intimidating and he loves to scare people. I wasn't quite sure what to say to him in response, so I said nothing at all. Gene must have noticed the puzzled look on my face because he repeated himself.

"You owe me $18."

He then continued, "You tossed out 3 towels. Those towels cost $6 each. Those were my towels and I want you to pay for them. Personally. Not your tour manager. You."

I was in shock.

I felt ashamed.

One of my gods was punishing me!

Gene waited in that very spot until I went into my wallet, pulled out my last $20 (my only $20) and paid him for the towels. While pocketing my per diem food money, he smiled at me and said, "Feel free to keep tossing out as many towels as you can afford to pay for yourself."

I immediately got the point: I was the new kid in town and I shouldn't be trying to steal the show. A valuable lesson learned for the low cost of only $18.

Though I had already been nervous about meeting the members of Kiss before my encounter with Gene, by now I was absolutely terrified! I was so scared that not only couldn't I bring myself to speak to them, I couldn't even look them in the eyes when they came near me. Whenever someone from Kiss was around, I would simply put my head down and keep on walking.

One day after the Danger Danger set, I was heading back to my dressing room where the rest of the band was already waiting for me. Yet to my horror, there at the other end of that long, white cinderblock arena hallway was the one and only Paul Stanley! There he stood, my ultimate hero, the Starchild himself, wearing his black Paul Stanley cowboy hat and looking just as cool as ice. And he was walking in my direction.

I knew at this point that it was inevitable. This was it. Our paths were going to cross. My heart was pounding so hard that I thought it would leap right out of my mouth. This was my big chance, the moment I'd waited for since I'd carved my first Kiss logo into that first math desk.

"In 10 seconds," I thought to myself. "In 10 seconds, I am going to speak to Paul Stanley."

"In 10 seconds."

And then, just as Paul walked past me... nothing.

My mind had gone blank. Not one word came out of my mouth. In the blink of an eye, I'd become Helen Fucking Keller! Instead of saying hello, I'd put my head down and kept right on walking. I had just blown my big moment to say something to Paul Stanley. I had shamed myself and my bandmates, none of whom had met Kiss yet (and all of whom had probably just seen the whole thing go down). Completely crushed and disappointed in myself, I continued to make my way toward the dressing room... when all of a sudden, the corridor became filled with The Voice.

It was loud.

It was unmistakable.

It was Paul Stanley.

My hero. My idol. My very reason for being in that hallway in the first place. And he was saying my name.

Actually, he was singing my name.

And he was singing it to the tune of "Unholy."

"TED POH-LAAAAAYYYYY!"

I'd heard it.

My band had heard it.

And yet for a moment, I still didn't believe it. Not until Steve West said loudly, "Yeah, he knows you!" At which point everyone laughed, including Paul! I then turned around to see him smiling at me, his hand outstretched to shake mine. Paul Fucking Stanley. The coolest guy on the planet. And he knew I was too shy to say hello.

He had been watching the show, and I still don't know how or why, but he knew my name.

And he sang it.

I'd finally gotten my chance to say hello to Paul, and now my life was complete.

So even though I never made millions of dollars in the music business (well, not that I got to keep for myself, anyway), I wouldn't trade that moment for anything in the world. I suppose once all is said and done, the costs involved break down as follows:

Three Gene Simmons towels: $18.
Suing Sony several years later: a few million bucks.
Paul Stanley singing my name at the top of his lungs: PRICELESS.

Over the years, I've encountered Paul a few times at various Kiss concerts and even though he hasn't sung my name since then, I still get a thrill every time he greets me with a warm, "Hi, Ted." So to make a short story just a little bit longer, the new parody of "Unholy" began when Paul Stanley sang my name in a backstage hallway, although it took my buddy C.C. Banana to write the lyrics and make it all happen.

I hope everyone enjoys the "fruits" of his labor.

- TP

C.C. Banana's parody of "Unholy" appears on the newly released tribute album "KISS MY ANKH: A Tribute To Vinnie Vincent." Despite its humorous overtones, the track is an appropriately heavy recreation of the Kiss original, featuring a guitar solo by Chris Caffery (Savatage, Trans-Siberian Orchestra), guitars and bass by Paul LaPlaca (Zandelle, Z02, Chris Caffery solo band), drums by Dennis Leeflang (Sun Caged, Epica, Bumblefoot solo band) and background vocals by Kelli McCloud (Queen of the Reich) and Vic Rivera (AdrianGale, Crunch, Poley/Rivera). SplitScreen Entertainment recently caught up with Stereo Fallout frontman and founding Trixter guitarist Steve Brown to discuss his acoustic rendition of Kiss' "A Million To One," from the newly released tribute album "KISS MY ANKH: A Tribute To Vinnie Vincent." Here's what Steve had to say about the creative process behind the song.

SplitScreen Entertainment: Steve, how did you go about arranging your acoustic interpretation of "A Million To One?"

Steve Brown: First of all, it's a great, great song! I knew right away where I wanted to go with it... a little modern, a little retro. I honestly think it's one of the best songs I've ever recorded. It's just killer. I hope Stanley Eisen approves!

SplitScreen Entertainment: Did you add any special touches that you hope fans will pick up on?

Steve Brown: I added everything but the pool and hot tub. The track has absolutely massive production! Mutt Lange would be proud.

SplitScreen Entertainment: What kind of feedback have you gotten on your efforts?

Steve Brown: Everyone I've played the song for asks, "Why isn't this on the radio right now?" They say it sounds current, like Daughtry or Nickelback. The best part is when they ask me, "Who wrote this song?" When I tell them it was Paul Stanley and Vinnie Vincent, they're floored! Those two wrote some awesome tunes.

SplitScreen Entertainment: Paul Stanley once said, "If a song doesn't sound good on an acoustic guitar, it's just a crappy song." Your new acoustic version of the Paul Stanley/Vinnie Vincent composition "A Million To One" proves that the song itself is quite solid. Which aspects of the original do you feel still hold up 25 years after its release?

Steve Brown: Great melody, stellar chord progression and most importantly, an emotional, believable vocal.

SplitScreen Entertainment: What are your memories of Trixter touring with Kiss in 1992?

Steve Brown: It was a dream come true, for sure. The "Revenge" album and tour was one of their best efforts from the non-makeup era and to be a part of that was historic and cool. Gene Simmons was so much fun to hang out with and Eric Singer is a bro. He's like the 5th Trixter! Ha! Just a joke, buddy! Gene once even said to me, in his spooky low voice, "You should have Eric Singer join Trixter and give me 10%." Paul Stanley was actually very low key. The first night I met him, he said to me, "Heyyyyyyyyyy... I hear you're a great guitar player." Very, very, very fuckin' cool!

SplitScreen Entertainment: In recent years you've established a considerable following by playing solo acoustic shows in and around your home state of New Jersey. What do you enjoy most about performing acoustically?

Steve Brown: Acoustic shows let people hear your true talent because you can't hide behind the volume. I love being able to show "The Other Side" of Steve Brown (in a shameless bit of self promotion for my Stereo Fallout CD, available now at CDBaby.com).

SplitScreen Entertainment: There are some interesting acoustic elements on that album, too; notably the song "Brand New Me." What would you say to fans to encourage them to check out this new original Steve Brown project?

Steve Brown: To put it simply, it's the best album I have ever done. It's just a shame that the music biz is in the toilet these days.

SplitScreen Entertainment: Did you start playing guitar on an electric or acoustic? What types of songs did you play when you were first learning guitar?

Steve Brown: I started on acoustic then rocked 'em on electric! Van Halen's "Eruption" changed my life forever.

SplitScreen Entertainment: Fellow Jerseyites Jon Bon Jovi and Richie Sambora are often credited with kicking off the popularity of rock artists recreating their hits in acoustic form with their performance of "Livin' on a Prayer" and "Wanted Dead or Alive" during the 1989 MTV Video Music Awards. Why do you think acoustic versions of rock songs have remained so popular?

Steve Brown: Pete Loran and I were actually there when JBJ and Sambo did that! Overall, I feel that an acoustic version shows off the real, true heart and soul of a song.

SplitScreen Entertainment: Tribute albums, too, have become more popular and commonplace in recent years. Are there any other songs or artists you'd like to take a crack at covering someday?

Steve Brown: One day I'm going to do an Elvis Presley tribute, rockin' the King with some serious guitar! It'll be like Stevie Ray Vaughn meets Eddie Van Halen doing Elvis. That sounds alright to me!

SplitScreen Entertainment: What are your feelings on the recent Trixter reunion shows, the band's first since the early '90s?

Steve Brown: The experience was simply mind-blowing. It was just so much fun! The band really is better than ever and it feels fantastic to be rocking with Pete Loran, P.J. Farley and Mark Scott again.

SplitScreen Entertainment: How would you describe the new studio tracks on the recently released Trixter live album?

Steve Brown: One word: AWESOME! It's a true pleasure to be making new music with my brothers.

SplitScreen Entertainment: What does the future hold for Trixter and Steve Brown?

Steve Brown: We just confirmed an additional Trixter show for Friday, September 19th. We'll be playing with Warrant at Myth in Minneapolis, MN so it should be another great time! There are also a bunch of other things in the works, like more shows and new CDs. You know me, I'm always working on rockin' the world!

SplitScreen Entertainment: Steve, do you have any parting thoughts about your participation in "KISS MY ANKH: A Tribute To Vinnie Vincent?"

Steve Brown: Thanks for getting me involved with this project. Recording "A Million To One" really got my creative juices rocking again! To borrow a phrase from the song...

A million to one
And my name is Steve
A million to one
There's no one better than me!

Steve Brown's acoustic rendition of "A Million To One" appears on the newly released tribute album "KISS MY ANKH: A Tribute To Vinnie Vincent." Further details can be found at the SplitScreen Entertainment website.

On the eve of the release of its much-anticipated tribute album "KISS MY ANKH: A Tribute To Vinnie Vincent," SplitScreen Entertainment has answered many of fans' questions about the project.

SplitScreen Entertainment: We would like to take this opportunity to thank all of the Vinnie Vincent and Kiss fans from around the world who have written in with their questions, comments and feedback. We've been completely overwhelmed by response to this project and we apologize for not being able to reply to your inquiries individually. Rest assured, we have read them all and we hope this FAQ section will answer any questions you may still have about the tribute. Overall, we're extremely pleased that so many of you are looking forward to "KISS MY ANKH" and we can't wait for you to finally hear it! Now on to your questions...

Question: What compelled you to produce a Vinnie Vincent tribute album?

SplitScreen Entertainment: Without a doubt, this is the question we are asked most often. Admittedly, Vinnie Vincent is not the most obvious candidate for a tribute album. For that matter, he's not even the most likely member of Kiss. If anything, Vinnie Vincent is the black sheep of the Kiss family and he's become something of a polarizing figure over the years. While some absolutely despise the man, others consider him a true guitar hero.

Yet love him or hate him, Vinnie Vincent never fails to be a topic of discussion amongst music fans the world over. The longest-running thread at the official ESP Guitars message board is a tribute to Vinnie Vincent, with some 2,000 replies and 60,000 views. There are also regular Vinnie Vincent debates at the infamous Metal Sludge Gossip Board. There are multiple Vinnie Vincent tribute pages at MySpace and Vinnie Vincent video clips routinely rack up tens of thousands of plays at YouTube. There is even a thriving fan community at VinnieVincent.com. In fact, a casual inspection of virtually any Kiss or hard rock forum will produce evidence that Vinnie Vincent is alive and well in the hearts and minds of his fans. Even though Vinnie has had very little creative output over the last 20 years, he has nonetheless left a lasting impression that lingers in his absence.

Interestingly, despite his virtual disappearance from the scene in recent years, Vinnie Vincent has retained a simmering fan base itching for something new. Their situation is not unlike that of Guns N' Roses fans, who have been waiting nearly 15 years for the release of "Chinese Democracy." In that respect, Vinnie could even be seen as the poor man's Axl Rose. Though fans may plead for the faintest glimmer that new material is on the horizon, they subsist on naught but the occasional leaked demo while the artist himself remains in relative seclusion. That being the case, if Vinnie Vincent is unable or unwilling to release a new album on his own, it falls to his fans to do it for him. This is where "KISS MY ANKH" fits into the equation.

We realized we'd tapped into something significant soon after announcing the album, when we began receiving inquiries from artists wishing to be involved. Literally dozens upon dozens of hopefuls contacted us about appearing on the tribute, citing their admiration of the man and their appreciation for his body of work. All of this is testament to the fact that Vinnie Vincent's music still means a lot to a lot of people. In addition to his notoriety as a singular shredder, Vinnie is a master at crafting compelling melodies with outrageous yet elegant lyrical content. Like the ankh itself (the Egyptian symbol of life everlasting), Vinnie Vincent is a creative force whose contributions live on more than a quarter-century after his initial emergence.

Though Kiss tribute albums have already been done to death, our more unorthodox approach seemed like a cool way of doing something new and different with the concept. Plus we had a funny title and we knew that Vinnie himself would appreciate the additional shot of income that sales of the album would generate. It is for all of these reasons, in addition to the motivating factors cited above, that SplitScreen Entertainment chose to produce "KISS MY ANKH: A Tribute To Vinnie Vincent."

Question: Aren't most tributes to individual artists released after the artist is dead?

SplitScreen Entertainment: Good point. True, Vinnie Vincent is not dead. At least we don't think he is. We certainly hope he's not! But since his career has been all but non-existent for the past decade, we figure the time is right to pay tribute to the music he created during his time in the spotlight.

Question: Why aren't there more famous musicians on the tribute?

SplitScreen Entertainment: Unlike the star-studded tribute albums that have become commonplace in recent years, "KISS MY ANKH" was never intended to feature big-name talent. Our original plan was to showcase a cross-section of Vinnie Vincent material recorded by real Vinnie Vincent fans. The fact that we ended up having a few names on board came as an added bonus, which has in turn helped draw attention to the project. In fact, the more awareness we received, the more name musicians came forward as big Vinnie Vincent fans, asking to be involved! We actually had to turn down 2 or 3 of them because they simply came to us too late!

Beyond the involvement of said name musicians, the roster for "KISS MY ANKH" consists primarily of rising talent we've had the pleasure of working with over the past few years; artists who have established themselves in their respective scenes and who are deserving of exposure to a wider audience. We're proud to say that each and every one of them delivered the goods on this tribute and we could not be happier with the lineup we've assembled.

Question: Why isn't my favorite Vinnie Vincent song on the tribute?

SplitScreen Entertainment: To be sure, Vinnie Vincent wrote a lot of great songs and any compilation of his work will invariably leave off material that deserves to be included. In the case of "KISS MY ANKH," we wanted to present highlights from throughout Vinnie's career. With essentially 5 albums from which to choose (3 with Kiss and 2 with the Vinnie Vincent Invasion), we decided upon a format of 2 tracks from each, assembled in chronological order. As such, we ended up with a healthy mix of well-known Vinnie Vincent favorites alongside a few lesser-known gems that we felt deserved a fresh listen. We shied away from material from the Treasure album and Vinnie's "Euphoria" EP, primarily because we felt the material might be a bit too obscure for the casual fan. For similar reasons, we chose not to include any of his collaborations with other artists like Dan Hartman or The Bangles. In the end, "KISS MY ANKH" stands as a representative sampling of Vinnie's mainstream catalog... the "Vintage Vincent," if you will.

Question: Why does my favorite Vinnie Vincent song sound so different?

SplitScreen Entertainment: When compiling the talent roster for "KISS MY ANKH," we made the conscious decision to not dictate style or form to our contributors. We simply picked the artists we felt were up to the challenge of doing the material justice and then let them make their own creative choices. Some chose to remain faithful to the source material, with a few taking great pains to preserve the sound and feel of the originals. Others chose to come up with their own unique interpretations, ranging from acoustic to industrial to death metal... and even a hilarious song parody roasting a member of the extended Kiss family! Ultimately, "KISS MY ANKH" is meant to pay tribute to Vinnie Vincent both as gifted songwriter and influential musician, so hopefully there will be something for everyone on the album.

Question: Why didn't you include covers of any of the unreleased Vinnie Vincent demos that have been floating around for years?

SplitScreen Entertainment: Unfortunately, those songs were simply not available to us. Though it would have been cool to present some of Vinnie's unreleased material in the form of new recordings, the nature of song licensing does not really allow for this. In that same vein, the licensing process for the music Vinnie composed for the "Joanie Loves Chachi" TV series would have been similarly prohibitive... not that there was any great demand for that material in the first place, of course.

Question: Where did the title "KISS MY ANKH" come from?

SplitScreen Entertainment: The title was actually something our executive producer came up with while attending a Vinnie Vincent Q&A in 1996 at the annual NY/NJ Kiss Expo. Vinnie was on stage, answering fans' questions and commenting on his upcoming projects, including plans to write an autobiography. When asked by an audience member if he had a title in mind, Vinnie stated that he did not yet have one. At which point, perhaps inspired by the official Kiss tribute album "Kiss My Ass," our producer blurted out his own suggestion, "Kiss My Ankh!" Everybody laughed, including Vinnie himself, and our producer wisely tucked away the phrase for future use. It wasn't until late last year that it finally occurred to him to utilize it as the title of a Vinnie Vincent tribute album... an idea that came to him one night while taking his girlfriend's dog for a walk! Parading the pooch is not one of his favorite activities so he tends to do a lot of creative thinking to pass the time. He had been trying to come up with a tribute album concept that would be at once very cool yet also somewhat obscure. Thankfully for the many Vinnie Vincent fans around the world, he nixed his original idea of doing a glam rock tribute to Manowar!

Question: Is there any significance to the cover art?

SplitScreen Entertainment: For "KISS MY ANKH," we very much wanted the cover to be a visual expression of the album concept. Toward that end, we incorporated the ankh symbol itself, along with additional nods to the Egyptian theme of Vinnie's Kiss character. We chose to utilize the ankh in much the same way as the metallic letter V seen on the Vinnie Vincent Invasion album covers, where it is depicted as a big, iconic symbol floating in the sky. It was this motif that we attempted to incorporate into our own album cover, replacing the V with a metallic ankh.

Interestingly, in an old issue of the Vinnie Vincent Invasion fan club newsletter, Vinnie claimed that he liked to envision the band as having come from the future! As such, their album covers would embody this forward-thinking sensibility. In our case, since we're digging through the past and mining Vinnie's rich treasure trove of recorded material, our depiction of an ancient landscape (complete with hovering symbol) would seem to be a logical extension of this philosophy.

As a comedic tip of the cap to longtime Vinnie Vincent fans, we even briefly toyed with the notion of offering a special "Archive Edition" of "KISS MY ANKH," released on audiocassette and shipped in an empty paint can... although we later thought better of the idea!

Question: Is there any significance to the August 6th pre-order date?

SplitScreen Entertainment: August 6th is Vinnie's birthday. Happy birthday, dude! We hope you like your present!

Question: Have you heard from Vinnie Vincent or any members of the Invasion?

SplitScreen Entertainment: We were actually delighted to receive a MySpace friend request from original Invasion vocalist Robert Fleischman! All of us behind the scenes have a tremendous appreciation for Robert's contributions to the Vinnie Vincent Invasion so it was very cool to find out that our project was on his radar. Robert's successor Mark Slaughter and drummer Bobby Rock are also now MySpace friends, but that's been the extent of our contact with the band. Hopefully all the Invasion members know that we have the utmost respect and admiration for the work they did 20 years ago and we hope to do them proud with our new project.

Question: Where is Vinnie Vincent today and what has he been doing in recent years?

SplitScreen Entertainment: Surely the most fascinating aspect of producing our tribute to Vinnie Vincent has been encountering all the rumors that have circulated in his absence. The big question on everyone's mind seems to be... where in the world is Vinnie Vincent? Has he moved to Tennessee and retired from the music business? Is he now a chef running a restaurant in Connecticut? Has he had a sex change and is he living his life as woman? Despite the many and varied possible explanations for his recent low profile, Vinnie himself has yet to come forward to substantiate any of them. If anybody does know what Vinnie is up to these days, they're certainly not talking. Seemingly the last known public appearance of Vinnie Vincent was via a photograph taken to promote his limited edition autographed prints for the now-defunct KissWorld store in December 2004. Ever since then, despite sporadic rumors and the occasional court case, the man has been completely out of the public eye. If anyone out there has information as to Vinnie's current whereabouts, feel free to drop us a line because we'd like to send him a copy of the album for his birthday.

We hope that Vinnie is well, we hope he is happy and like the rest of his fans, we hope he is still pursuing his passion for music. Perhaps with a bit of good fortune, Vinnie Vincent will one day return to rock the world again.

"KISS MY ANKH: A Tribute To Vinnie Vincent" became available for pre-order in honor of Vinnie Vincent's birthday on August 6th and is scheduled for release on August 27th. Further details can be found at the SplitScreen Entertainment website.

SplitScreen Entertainment has announced the late addition of a bonus track to its upcoming tribute album "KISS MY ANKH: A Tribute To Vinnie Vincent."

Rock & roll comic C.C. Banana, known for his outrageous interviews with rockers and other celebrities, has written a new song parody exclusively for this project. The song is a comedic take on the Gene Simmons/Vinnie Vincent classic "Unholy," rewritten as a roast of Danger Danger vocalist Ted Poley. Despite its humorous overtones, the track is an appropriately heavy recreation of the Kiss original, featuring a guitar solo by Chris Caffery (Savatage, Trans-Siberian Orchestra), guitars and bass by Paul LaPlaca (Zandelle, Z02, Chris Caffery solo band), drums by Dennis Leeflang (Sun Caged, Epica, Bumblefoot solo band) and background vocals by Kelli McCloud (Queen of the Reich) and Vic Rivera (AdrianGale, Crunch, Poley/Rivera).

Below are statements from C.C. Banana and Ted Poley himself, explaining the unlikely series of events that led to the inclusion of a Ted Poley tribute song on a Vinnie Vincent tribute album.

But when I got to the other end of the hallway, I heard Paul belting out my name at the top of his lungs... to the tune of their new single "Unholy!" The words and melody just fit perfectly. "Ted Poh-laaaaayyyyy!" I don't care if this sounds lame, but that was one of the greatest moments of my life!"

In other words, what if Ted Poley were more like Gene Simmons, the man who sang "Unholy" in the first place? That, my friends, is the circle of life."

A video clip of C.C. Banana announcing his participation in "KISS MY ANKH" during an episode of "Talking Metal on Fuse" is available at the following link:

The final track listing for "KISS MY ANKH: A Tribute To Vinnie Vincent" is now as follows:

In honor of Vinnie Vincent's birthday on August 6th, SplitScreen Entertainment has opened up pre-orders for its upcoming tribute album "KISS MY ANKH: A Tribute To Vinnie Vincent." It has also revealed the album's full track listing and complete artist roster. Scheduled for release on August 27th, the album is now available for pre-order via the SplitScreen Entertainment website. All songs on the tribute were written or co-written by Vinnie Vincent and originally appeared on albums by Kiss and the Vinnie Vincent Invasion.

"KISS MY ANKH" features a mixture of veteran and rising talent, united by a common passion for the source material. The tribute kicks off in grand fashion with a retro take on "Killer" by YouTube sensation DoubleVirgo, who made headlines earlier this year at KissOnline with his vintage-flavored interpretation of another overlooked Kiss nugget. Next up is a soaring rendition of "I Still Love You" by New York metal masters Gods of Fire, who add their distinct bombastic flair to the familiar ballad. This is followed by Kiss concert staple "Lick It Up," rendered with flash and finesse by the female-fronted Future 86, known for their long-running series of TV spots for media giant Cablevision. A soulful acoustic version of "A Million To One" follows by the one-man band of Steve Brown, founding Trixter guitarist and current frontman of modern rock outfit Stereo Fallout.

The album kicks into high gear with the explosive Vinnie Vincent Invasion anthem "Boyz Are Gonna Rock" by Mike Weeks (guitarist on the most recent solo offering from original Invasion vocalist Robert Fleischman), alongside former Nitro bassist T.J. Racer and drummer Andre LaBelle, who himself played drums on Vinnie Vincent's fabled yet unreleased third album, "Guitars From Hell." "Carnival of Souls" comic book creator Jazan Wild tears it up with a raw and raspy version of "Back on the Streets," a song recorded not only by Vinnie Vincent but also demoed by Frehley's Comet and even Kiss itself. The Invasion is further represented with a new rendition of "That Time of Year," a collaboration between former Adler's Appetite vocalist Sheldon Tarsha, former Alice Cooper guitarist Ryan Roxie, former Altaria bassist Marko Pukkila and current White Lion drummer Troy Patrick Farrell. Also featured is "Love Kills," the theme song from "A Nightmare on Elm Street 4," hauntingly resurrected by Queen of the Reich vocalist Kelli McCloud and Vic Rivera of AdrianGale, Crunch and Poley/Rivera fame.

The disc races toward the finish line with a bold and brutal death metal take on the evil Kiss classic "Unholy" by Curse God and Die, a project featuring Paul LaPlaca of the Chris Caffery solo band and Bumblefoot drummer Dennis Leeflang. The tribute comes to a dramatic close with a unique industrial/electronic interpretation of "I Just Wanna" by The Dead Zoo Keepers, featuring Kurt Monson and Dan McCafferty of the Rocklahoma-reunited Wild August with vocals by Danny Stanton, president of Coallier Entertainment and representative for such acts as Twisted Sister and Lita Ford.

All in all, "KISS MY ANKH" boasts a powerful lineup of inspired musicians and unforgettable music, assembled in honor of Vinnie Vincent. The complete track listing for "KISS MY ANKH: A Tribute To Vinnie Vincent" is as follows:

1. Killer - DoubleVirgo
2. I Still Love You - Gods of Fire
3. Lick It Up - Future 86
4. A Million To One - Steve Brown
5. Boyz Are Gonna Rock - Mike Weeks (with Andre LaBelle and T.J. Racer)
6. Back on the Streets - Jazan Wild
7. That Time of Year - Sheldon Tarsha, Ryan Roxie, Marko Pukkila, Troy Patrick Farrell
8. Love Kills - Vic Rivera / Kelli McCloud
9. Unholy - Curse God and Die
10. I Just Wanna - The Dead Zoo Keepers
