Current mood: awake
Category: Music
This is a topic that peaked Ken's interest in my interview (Tao of Thought) tonight. I thought I'd keep a record of where my musical interests are these days. I mentioned that I have emotional affairs with certain songs. By that I mean, there are songs that come along that I will listen to on constant repeat for days at a time. When I wake up in the morning, I NEED to listen to that song a few dozen times. If I've got the CD in my car, that's the first and last song I'm listening to on the drive. It's like an obsession which lasts a couple months until I either lose interest or move on to another song. NEwho, think what you will, comment how you want but here I go. Starting with the second last song I had my "affair" with: "Mary" by Sarah Slean I'm currently involved with: "Gravity" by John Mayer

Current mood: tired
Category: Fashion, Style, Shopping
I haven't written a blog in some time but I feel now like I should. I've got a cold, I'm tired as all hell and ready to bury myself in a pillow watching Grey's Anatomy but I still somehow feel I should do this. I just did an interview with Ken Jackson for the Tao of Thought. We mulled over my view of the creative process and how I approach music in general and I found it to be quite therapeutic. So here I am writing about what I'm getting into in some hope that things might make more sense to myself I guess. NEwho, here goes nothing... -------------------- Certain things have come very naturally to me in my career. Getting song lists together, learning songs, showing up to my gigs up to an hour early though often unnecessary and so on. One thing that has never come naturally to me was the image side of things. I've known and been in touch with this for quite some time but recently, I've started doing something about it. With some help from some great friends, I've done some shopping to update my image. I started by buying new glasses and now I'm constantly on the hunt for new clothes. It's a little liberating, exciting while being quite the drain to my wallet. The really interesting thing is this... The audiences I play for are quite a bit more receptive to what I'm doing now that I'm getting this image thing together. They seem to give up praises more freely, they applaud longer and with less encouragement, and they seem more attentive to me on stage. All this to say that now I know that image is absolutely everything. You could be the best singer on the planet but if you don't look good, you're the next closest thing to dead in the water. Ok, maybe that's not entirely true but I thought I was pretty good before but now I'm receiving all this extra attention (without any extra practice time) just by wearing a three piece suit while singing at Joe Mama's. I don't know exactly how I feel about this but if spending some money on new clothes every couple months furthers my career, I'm there. And so the image debate rages on. Thoughts?
