June 17, 2008 - Tuesday

Hello everyone out there! I hope you are having a wonderful summer.

My name is Ryan Gebler and I'm blogging today to introduce myself as the new person behind the scenes for the Edgewood College MySpace page. But before I do that, I think we should give some credit to the creator of this page, Nick Venturella.

Nick's an Edgewood College alumnus and a former employee of the College. For 3 years, he worked as an admissions counselor in the Admissions Office. Nick recently left Edgewood and in his new position he is a director of marketing.

During his time on campus, Nick got his hands involved in many different marketing-related things and did some wonderful things at the College. He's a creative genius (and a talented musician and artist too!). Nick's specialty and focus was, and continues to be, marketing and communication. Utlizing social networks like MySpace and Facebook was his idea, and I hope I can carry on the tradition he started.

So, thanks again, Nick.

And to the rest of you out there, I hope I can continue the great work Nick did managing this website.

Until next time,
Ryan

April 30, 2008 - Wednesday

Tomorrow (May 1, 2008) is the national commit date for prospective college students to commit to whatever college they have chosen to attend next fall.

Many of you have already made your official commitment to Edgewood College by signing up online for an Advising & Registration Day and submitting your $100 tuition deposit.  If you haven't already done so, and have already been admitted to Edgewood College then I encourage you to sign up today!

Here's how to sign up for an Advising and Registration Day…

·         You would have received a letter in the mail notifying you of Advising & Registration Days.  Advising & Registration Days are a time when you would come to campus and work with an Academic Advisor to help you pick out your first semester of freshman classes.  You will need to sign up online for one of the Advising & Registration Days offered throughout the summer.  Slots are filling up quickly, so don't delay.  You will be allowed to sign up after following a short online tutorial at this site:  http://www.edgewood.edu/events/ardays/.  When you sign up for an Advising & Registration Day you will also be asked to mail in your $100 tuition deposit.

We look forward to seeing all of you on campus soon.  Please let me know if you have additional questions.

Thanks,

Nick

March 12, 2008 - Wednesday

Prospective Edgewood College Freshman - Edgewood College established a priority application deadline of March 1, 2008 for all high school seniors interested in applying for admission.  High school seniors would have had to have gotten all their application materials into us (application, high school transcripts, and ACT scores) by that deadline.

The priority application deadline has now passed, and all applications received after the March 1st deadline will be reviewed on an individual basis, but admission is not guaranteed even if you meet all the admission requirements for Edgewood College.

March 4, 2008 - Tuesday

It's that time of year where a lot of high school seniors are beginning to take college placement tests at various institutions.  So it's understandable that we, at Edgewood College, often get asked about our placement testing policy...well, I've answered that question below...

About Edgewood College Placement Testing:
Edgewood College doesn't offer placement testing quite like a lot of other institutions.  We only offer English, Math and Foreign Language placement testing (French & Spanish only for languages).  For information about English placement testing please contact the Academic Dean's Office (608-663-2200) for a schedule of test dates.  For information about Math placement testing please contact the Student Resource Center (608-663-2281) for a schedule of test dates.  The English and Math placement tests are optional.  If you choose not to take either of them you will be placed in an appropriate English or Math course based on your ACT scores in those subjects.  However, when planning to take Foreign Language at Edgewood College you will be required to take a placement test.  The Foreign Language placement test is done online when you register for an Advising & Registration Day in the summer before entering your freshman year.  (Advising & Registration Days are not available to sign up for until about April, but they are a time when you would come to campus and work with an Academic Advisor to help you pick out your first semester of freshman classes.  You will be notified by mail about Advising & Registration Days around April.)

Happy Leap Day,

I wanted to inform all admitted future Edgewood College freshmen for the upcoming school year (08 - 09) that the priority application deadline for Edgewood College Scholarships is March 1, 2008!

The good news is that because March 1st falls on a Saturday (tomorrow) we're giving you the remainder of the weekend to finish applying for any Edgewood College scholarships.  You will have access to apply for these scholarships until midnight on Sunday March 2, 2008.

If you haven't already applied for Edgewood College scholarships you still have time.  You should have received information in the mail related to Financial Aid and applying for Edgewood College scholarships.  It would have been a letter directing you to a web page where you can create a log-in for yourself and then apply online for additional scholarships.  Here is the direct URL to create your online log-in:
https://edgewood.gotoextinguisher.com/application/login/
You will also need your Edgewood College Student ID number when applying for Edgewood College scholarships, your ID number will be sent to your email address today.  Otherwise, you can find your student ID number on your Financial Aid letter, mentioned above.

If you need to reference additional Financial Aid information related to tuition, room & board, and scholarships as well as info about filling out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), go to:

For Admitted Future Edgewood College Freshman...

A few things to be aware of...

Housing applications – You should have received a Housing application in the mail.  Your next step will be to get your Housing application filled out and returned to Edgewood with the $150 Housing deposit (that deposit reserves your dorm room for you.  It is fully refundable until May 1, 2008.  If you need a refund we have to be notified in writing--email can suffice).  If you have a preference for a particular residence hall then get that Housing application in right away.  Dorms are assigned on a first come, first serve basis.  This is based on the order we receive Housing applications.  Here is a link to information about each dorm online if you need it to help you prioritize you Residence Hall choices:  http://www.edgewood.edu/housing/reshalls/default.htm.

Edgewood College Scholarships - You should have received some information in the mail related to Financial Aid and applying for Edgewood College Scholarships.  It would have been a letter directing you to a web page where you can create a log-in for yourself and then apply online for Edgewood College scholarships.  Here is the direct URL to create your online log-in:  https://edgewood.gotoextinguisher.com/application/login/.

Experience Edgewood College Days - are event days specifically designed for students like you who have already been admitted to Edgewood College.  These are opportunities for you to come to campus, attend a class or two, listen to campus organization and/or athletics presentations, and take full campus tours as well as exclusive dorm tours.  You can find out about and sign up for one of our Experience Edgewood College Days online at:  http://www.edgewood.edu/events/experienceec/default.htm.

January 11, 2008 - Friday

Happy New Year to all of you...yes, I know that New Years happened over a week ago, I've just been a bit slow to write a new post, my apologies.

I hope the new year brings a sense of a fresh start for you, and not just for the first couple of weeks of the new calendar.  This is a great time of the year to reflect on everything that happened last year and ponder goals for the upcoming year.  For you current Edgewood College students that may mean, being glad that the fall semester is over and gearing up toward another, hopefully easier to handle semester (at least the days will start to get longer and warmer, we hope).  For prospective Edgewood College students this is a turning point time of the year...the realization that high school is nearing its end and the fact that big nerve-wracking yet exciting changes are afoot with your college decision and the new chapter it will bring in your life is both bitter and sweet.

For prospective Edgewood College students:  now is definitely the time of year to really start whittling down your college search, commit to a school, get housing/dorm reservations into your school of choice, and apply for financial aid and scholarships.  On the Edgeowod College website you can find out how to apply for financial aid and various Edgewood College scholarships, click here.

Also, if you and your parents are looking for help filling out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) check out this website about College Goal Sunday- a national, 1-day event that provides free information and assistance to families who are filling out the FAFSA.

Take care and good luck on your new year.
