Afternoon all, a quick note to say that as it's taking some time time to get the next record done, I've posted some new/old rough demos in the meantime. These include the ill-fated cover "No Place To Fall" feat Pat Whelan, originally by the Little Willies, as well as collaborations with Rick Baxendale (The Cage/Dog), Colonel Decker (Leather & Bone) and Orpheus Cat (The Gravediggers Ball).
Let me know what you think,
Cheers,
DJH x

So that's that, the EP is OUT! You can now download "The Life And Times Of The Man With No Name" from ITUNES, Rhapsody, Napster, eMusic, IMVU, Amazon MP3 , Lala, Shockhound and Amie Street, or nip down to Rough Trade Records in London (or from their website) to pick up a CD. To celebrate, myself and Mr Baxendale are playing at the Bull & Gate in Kentish Town, London, on Thursday 23 April, and we'd like to see as many of you down there as possible. There is a new Hard Graft Records group on Facebook, so head over there to become a fully fledged member. I'm off for a cold shower to help the sunburn I picked up in Scotland at the weekend! (Scotland?!?), Hasta la pasta, DJH

Afternoon all, First off, a massive thank you to everyone who came down to the Water Rats for our first gig as a two-piece on Wednesday. Most fun I think I've ever had on stage, fucking brilliant! Next up is a headline slot at the 12 Bar on 31 March which should be good. Have a wee look at the main page for gig listings as there's quite a few new posts. Heading back into the studio in a couple of weeks to get down a stack of new tunes myself and Rick have been working on, so hopefully we'll have something new for you pretty soon. In the meantime, be reminded that "The Life And Times Of The Man With No Name" EP is out on 20 April. I'm off for an early lunch to cure my continuing hangover, In a bit, DJH "Either be hot or cold. As you might notice by the big banner at the top of the myspace page, a release date has been set for the new EP "The Life And Times Of The Man With No Name". Trust me, that title was the best option.. All the tracks are now up, so have a listen, and let me know what you think. I've just got back to Edinburgh for the weekend after a busy couple of weeks mastering and rehearsing. If you can, please come down to the Water Rats on the 18th March for an idea of what the next EP might sound like. Projected release date 2023... Right, who wants my cold?! Not sure sitting in the pub all sunday afternoon necking a 12 pack of sudafed with a never ending stream of guinness is the best cure, but can't do any harm, can it? Saturday night involved Greek Goddesses, 1940's film stars, one transvestite, one hamster and a didgerydoo... So just a typical saturday night then! Anyway, here's the news.. This Friday will be the last acoustic gig for a bit at the Fiddlers Elbow in Camden, before The Water Rats in April which will be a bit different.. To find out what I mean, get your arses along. After much waffling on this here blog and proposed release dates, the ep IS finally finished! Fucking hell it's been a long time, but it is bloody good, if I'm being modest. The next ones allready underway, recording a wee bit with Acertone's Dave Cleaver and regular contributer Orpheus Cat. Right, I'm off for a lemsip. In a bit, DJH "I hope I didn't bore you too much with my life story." ELVIS PRESLEY

THE JOHN DOE MEDICINE SHOW @ THE SOCIAL 18/11/08
7PM £4
THE TRAVELLING BAND GRANTURA THE FRANKS DAVID JAMES HERBERT
Here it is, the last John Doe Medicine Show of the year, and it's a good un'! Following from their exploits at this year's Glastonbury Festival (winners of the 2008 Unsigned Competition don't you know) and in support of their new album out Nov 10th, we have Manchesters mighty TRAVELLING BAND..
'Under The Pavement' is the first album from Glastonbury starlets 'The Travelling Band'.
"They produce an inventive brand of guitar-laden country folk pop with a cosmic aesthetic and sprinkles of trademark Manchester's musical lineage. Opening with 'Only Waiting', plucked guitar melodies amplify their folk sound, as the conviction in vocals gradually ascends as the song unfolds. Previous EP track 'Desolate Icicle', is a beautifully assembled piece that drifts on in an REM brushed acoustic manner, as the higher lyrical notes of the chorus are reached with soothing aplomb. The album is a gentle dose of psychedelia, which answers all those asking what the fuss was about." CLASH MAGAZINE
Also riding high on the success of their recently released album "In Dreams & Other Stories, we have GRANTURA..
The Times 26th September 2008 **** You suspect that Grantura are a band who started writing songs when they couldn't agree which Crosby Stills & Nash songs to cover. With the wind in their sails, though, the South London six-piece can whip up an acoustic strum and drang that just as happily calls to mind the Lilac Time (In Dreams, Waves), Gram Parsons (Holly) and the La's (Lazarus - La's R Us, geddit?). What it all adds up to on In Dreams & Other Stories is a roasty, toasty quilty pleasure of an album. (Pete Paphides)
UNCUT Oct 08 *** Heady Vibes from London Six-piece West Coast rock has spawned many imitators in recent years, but few as convincing as Grantura. This euphoric debut aligns the '60s harmonies of The Byrds and The Mamas & The Papas to propulsive acoustic rhythms that often leak into country. Like The Cosmic Rough Riders before them though, it is a curiously British take on LA rock. Softened by pastoral delights like "Land of the Big Skies", they recast Nick Drake's "Cello Song" as a psych roustabout. Even odd excursions into weird polka ("House of Cards") are delivered with style, wit and rare warmth. (Rob Hughes)
THE FRANKS - "Spiralling rhythms and soulful harmonies wash over you like a bourbon ocean.....creating the mournful warmth of that last pint before a wet walk to the bus stop. " - Overplay.co.uk And then there's little old me, DAVID JAMES HERBERT..
"Heavy with spirit & emotion" BILLBOARD MAGAZINE
"David knows how to make people stop in there tracks and listen. With his wonderful lyrics and fantastic music this guy is going to go far." MUSIC NEWS SCOTLAND
"A mini-epic, full of electronic and emotional tension" DROWNED IN SOUND
"Looks – and sounds – every inch the troubadour!"****DAILY RECORD
