Flier of the Week: Walk the Rio (and Set to Sea!) at Warped Tour

walktheriowarped.jpg

This isn't the prettiest or the most creative flier that we've ever featured on Flier of the Week; it's really just Photoshopped stock crowd photos and a bunch of logos. What makes this flier important is the information it relays: that Walk the Rio, a dancey/rock electronica band from the city or Orange, were one of four bands to win the Ernie Ball Battle of the Bands--meaning they've earned a spot at the final 2009 date of the Vans Warped Tour this Sunday, at the Home Depot Center in Carson.

The competition gives 200 bands in total a chance to play one of the 45 dates of the Warped Tour. While we're stoked for Walk the Rio, we also have to give props to another local winner: Set to Sea, whom we wrote about in Locals Only way back in like, April. Have two Orange County bands selected out of hundreds of LA-area bands that entered is pretty great. More on the competition is here.

First off I would just like to thank everyone who has been supporting us; fans, family and friends. We thank you for the support you have been showing us. We have kind of been MIA from myspace lately and we are sorry for that. An unfortunate event took place about a week ago and we have all kind of have been taking it in. On Saturday May 16th 2009 at approx. 8AM our drummer, our brother Justin Vidal was hit by a car while he was biking home from a friends house. A Surburban going approx 50 MPH hit Justin but luckily instict took place and he tucked in while landing. Justin is alive and well but it looks like he will not be able to play our June 4th CD Release show at The Whiskey. He broke his Collar-Bone in two different places and there is a peice of bone just floating around in there. We are all super bummed and can't wait til he gets back on the Walk The Rio drum set. BUT THE SHOW MUST GO ON!!!! Justin is in high spirits and he does not want to let his injury slow down Walk The Rio!! Our good friend Erin is going to be filling in on drums for the time being and we are getting ready for our JUNE 4th CD RELEASE SHOW at THE WHISKEY!! We have already been rehearsing with Erin and Justin has been to all our rehearsals to help out with Erin learning drums for Walk The Rio. Once again thank you and let's all hope for a fast recovery from Justin!! Everybody message or comment Justin to cheer him up!!!! ..... or else. hhah jk.....or am I?

Walk the Rio was mentioned in an article from "All Ways", a travel service company.

--- "Pine Avenue is the place to go for live entertainment. I enjoyed abrilliant performance of salsa dancers at Sevilla nightclub.Restaurants seem to open up all the time. The birthplace of The BeachBoys is never short of a tribute band to the great 60s surfers.

But new garage bands are also making an emergence – it pays to wander offthe beaten track of Pine to find them.  I found a great local band,Walk The Rio, winding up an itchy performance in a bar off Pine." ---
