between the release of the new ep, "Roaring! Spinning! Winning!" and all of the shows we've played in recent months . . . not to mention the addition of a new drummer, we've managed to keep writing and working on new material.
the new stuff makes me smile.
a big dumb stupid smile.
we're hoping to do some more recording later this summer or in the fall some time. in the meantime, come out to a show to hear some new DI-FI tunes!
rock on . . .

(515) MANAGEMENT PROUD TO ANNOUNCE: JUNK POET & DI-FI TO JOIN THE (515) MANAGEMENT GROUP
The (515) Management Group's founder, Denny Harvey, announced Monday morning that up and coming Midwest acts JUNK POET and DI-FI have joined the (515) MANAGEMENT roster.
Seminal Iowa artists JUNK POET was a staple of the burgeoning Iowa music scene of the early 90's and a contemporary of internationally renown acts SLIPKNOT and STONE SOUR. The band reunited in 2007 and is currently active again for the first time in a decade.
Omaha's Dark Dance renegades DI-FI have steadily developed an interesting niche in the Midwestern Region, bringing their mix of Rock, Industrial, Goth and Dance styles with a shocking twist.
Both bands are actively writing, recording, and performing throughout the Midwest Region.
Harvey describes both bands as, "Hard working, extremely talented acts that the world needs to hear a lot more of. In the case of JUNK POET, these are guys that bring a wealth of talent and songwriting experience to the table. Real veterans. They understand melody and mood. DI-FI brings a different twist and a unique sense of style to their performances. Both bands are very capable and masters of their own respective genres. They're natural additions to the (515) Management Family."
Founded in 2004, the Iowa based (515) Management Group was designed as an alternative for developing Midwestern musical acts and formerly managed Iowa based metal act FACECAGE. Said Harvey at the time; “"There has been a movement throughout the Midwestern United States that has been all but been ignored by the mainstream music industry. Thriving music scene’s like Minneapolis, Omaha, Kansas City, Chicago...the list goes on and on. In Iowa alone there are at least a dozen talented, amazing bands that can'’t get the time of day from the mainstream labels. It’s wrong, it’s short sighted, and we are going to change it.”"
In 2006, Harvey and SLIPKNOT/STONE SOUR frontman Corey Taylor, along with FACECAGE, founded the independent record label GREAT BIG MOUTH RECORDS. The label's focus, as was (515) Management's, was on Midwestern acts, artist development and independent promotion. Harvey left the management of FACECAGE and the operations of GREAT BIG MOUTH in 2007, but still develops a limited number of Midwestern acts.
"This is just the beginning folks", Harvey states, "These are definitely two acts to watch."

watching DVR'd episodes of MXC until 3am started off my saturday. got up around 9am and was pleasantly surprised by the warm weather that had moved in.
nothing special going on. packing some clothes and wating for Lizard to drop by and pick me up so we can hit the studio and pack up our gear. Loaded up and ready to hit the road, we stop and gas up the van. I kick a tire and say "looks a little low, but it may just be all of the gear in the back squashing it down" . . . that sentence now rings in my head.
we hit the road and are having a great drive. feeling good. excited about playing HOB in Des Moines again. should have some friends out at the show, and since we play early that leaves the rest of the night to hang with them all. again, this idea would not come to fruition.
Iowa mile marker 68 on I80 became important to us that afternoon. that's where you could find our van with a blown out passenger's side rear time. shredded. i limped it down the road and off onto the shoulder with very little problem. Jeremy let's out a sigh and says "the spare is in my garage. . . "
i wasn't too worried. we have friends, and we have cell phones. this should be a matter of a couple of calls. but who would have that same size tire for us to use on this old Econoline love-truck? well, we could just get ahold of a garage in one of these small town to bring us a tire. we had plenty of time, so we could wait. well, we'd have to wait until monday as all of the local garages closed at noon on saturday. after shooting around ideas for a bit i came to the conclusion that no matter what we did, we would still be dealing with this situation . . . the real question was if we were going to try to make the show, or just try to get the tire we needed and NOT bother with the show. i called my one and only hope, Denny. Denny lives in Des Moines, has a van . . . and he was going to the show that day. i'm betting he wishes he hadn't answered his phone that day.
i did the math in my head and figured we could be at HOB by 6:30. we were scheduled to play at 7pm.
Denny, being the guy he is, didn't even think twice. he and his van were rolling up to us on I80 around 4:45 or so. after swapping out all of his seats and boxes in his van, for as much of our own music gear we could fit, we were on the road. now, mind you, i'm not getting into the details of how long it actually takes to get the seats out of his van, get our amps and drums swapped over, and just general "hey, try not to get hit my the semi's rolling by at 70mph.
we jump in and head east on a lonely lonesome highway, east of Omaha. texts are coming in left and right. "where are you". "the first band is STILL playing". we hit HOB at 6:35 . . . and the load in starts through the front door, as the back door and stairs are covered in melted snow and ice. an utter mess!! we load straight to the stage and start setting up. we take about 4 minutes to change clothes and try to get ourselves prepared to play. "do you think this is legal?" . . . and we're off. all was good except the fact that i was out of breath from loading gear and general chaos that was that afternoon.
water . . . somebody, for god sake, get me some water!!! now, i totally forgot that HOB water isn't exactly clean. it has this nice goldish brown tint to it and smells like an iron-ore pit. didn't exactly help my situation. maybe the water dripping through the ceiling into the bucket settting out in front of the stage would have tasted better. makes for a nice crowd deflector. "hey, come out of the floor . . . just watch out for the water dripping through the rotting ceiling".
done and off the stage. how did we do? i have no idea . . . i found myself trying to figure out how to get the can off the freeway in the middle of singing songs. i'm sure that made for a great performance. well, it seems that it did. a couple of people who had seen us a few times told me that was by far the best we've performed. huh, who knew.
"i found a spare and a jack we can use", Denny tells me. well hell, let's get our $ and hit the road. if we time this right, Denny and i can roll back to Des Moines after we change the tire and meet up with some friends around midnight, and Jeremy and Lizard can get back to Omaha. yeah, this is going to be sweet.
the borrowed spare doesn't fit. what the hell??? "it's from a Ford . . . Taurus" Denny tells me. what?? a Taurus isn't a truck!!! gahhhhhh . . . . so here we are are at mile marker 68 trying to make some decisions. after a few minutes, the decision is to have Denny drive to omaha to drop of the gear and Lizard, pick up the spare from Jeremy's old house, and drive back to mile marker 68.
now, Lizard lives in one place, our studio is way south of there. jeremy's apartment, where the keys for his old house are, is way west, and his old house is back east again. this little trip around Omaha itself took us well over an hour.
we grab the spare out of Jeremy's old place and throw it in the back of Denny's van. it's still on the big mounting bracket from the the back of our van, but we'll just take it off on our way there. luckily, i take a quick look at the bolts and think to myself that they look a little long. sure enough, our tire-iron isn't going to reach the nut with the bolts sticking out that far . . . so it's off to find a 24hour Wal-Mart so we can get a wrench.
you ever stop at a Wal-Mart at that time of the night? the people there were interesting to say the least, but that could be a whole other blog.
back on the road for another hour and some to get to mile marker 68. the van is jacked up and we have a spare, this shouldn't take long. but it does. it always does. nothing, not even the last five minutes of a day long project could go as planned. i roll the spare up to the side of the van and start jacking the jack up a bit to give the tire some room to slide on the lugs. (spin, spin, spin) . . . the jack tops out and i'm still 2 inches short of being up enough. story of my life :P
ahhhhh, we had borrowed a jack along with the spare that didn't fit!! it was a scissor jack with plenty of height, so we should be good. so i place the jack under the back axle of the van and start cranking. now, the crank on this scissor jack was very short . . . so i had to lay on the road under the van a bit to reach it. "please, don't let the van fall off of the jack."
i got my 2 extra inches and got the spare on!!!! by this time i have no idea what time it is, but our van is now setting on all four wheels at mile marker 68.
we put Denny's seats back in his van and we're rolling. Jeremy heads back to Omaha and i'm riding with Denny to Des Moines. as we get to Des Moines Denny states that he's getting hungry. huh, i'm getting hungry, too . . . but we just grabbed some Subway for dinner, right? Denny is like "dude, that was 8 hours ago". it's 5:45am now.
we roll into a Country Kitchen in Des Moines for some breakfast buffet and general decompression. at this point i'm kind of humming "pancakes and steaks", but i don't really know all the words (you'll get it some day).
we roll up to where i'm staying in Des Moines at 7:45am. good lord, i'm going to sleep like a baby!!! speaking of baby, Brad and Sarah (my in-laws) have a baby, and they were all getting up as a snuck in and hit the bed in the basement. the room i'm staying in is right below the dining room and kitchen, and it seem that this is where everyone is deciding to play this morning. "jump Evan, jump" . . . thump, thump, thump, thump . . . you've got to be kidding . . . sleep is not in my future.
i somehow get about two hours of sleep, and it's up, showered, and back into the sunlight. back into the world. back on the road. it'd be about and hour until i hit mile marker 68 again. then another hour and i'd be home.
all i can say is "Denny . . . thanks again!"

although it may seem like DI-FI has lost seem steam on the outside, we've been taking some time to record and refuel to get 2009 started off right!!
we now have all of the tracks recorded for 6 new DI-FI songs!!! a little mixn-master and we'll be there (sounds simple enough, right?) last year's "the machine is broken" helped us learn who we are and what we can accomplish.
this time, we're recording and producing all of the songs on our own. we had a little help from Doug (ANYTIME STUDIO) letting us record the drums at his house, but the rest of what we have going on is all on our shoulders.
we have a few shows in January, but will be working on getting the finished product out there ASAP.
December has had the three of us going in different directions a bit, but we'll be regrouped as of next week and will push forward full steam with this groove machine we call DI-FI. look for Jeremy to be playing with Omaha's 3D, and I'll be making a fool of myself with Corey Taylor and the degenerates known as THE DUMFUX in Des Moines this New Years Eve!!

We've been playing shows, writing some new tunes, and rehearsing like crazy!! Sometimes, though, it seems that the little things build up and something needs to happen to losen the noose.
DI-FI unplugged!!! There is more to us than some synths and electronic beats . . . we're going to reinvent some of our songs and present ourselves in a new light. BLACK ON HIGH will be sharing the stage with us at Shea Riley's in Omaha, and we'll be heading to Des Moines to strum our stuff at The Hull Ave as well.
We're just trying to have some fun . . .

"the machine is broken" has been out for all of two months now. So far, so good. A lot of good response to what we're doing. And if you thought the first album was all over the place as far as styles, wait until you hear the next one!! 15 new songs are in progress right now and the writing bug keeps eating away at us.
We are not letting up any time soon. The revolution is near . . .
