Essex based ROMEO MUST DIE continue to shake off the “New STAMPIN’ GROUND band’‘ tag by rapidly building a credible name for themselves in their own right. The new music video for the title track of the Debut EP “DEFINED BY ENEMIES” is the latest feat to confirm that this is a band worthy of worldwide success.
Already renowned for a slaying live show this quintet plays aggressive but contemporary thrash metal. However, the song writing approach doesn’t conform to the recent influx of 80’s fuelled replicas but is more reminiscent to the classic metal greats of yesteryear. Integrity and continuity leaks from every orifice of this band and in a time were masses of existing ‘metalcore’ bands are slowly evolving in to what they were previously scared to be, Romeo Must Die are already there. This is made fundamentally clear within the 4 minute music video where pure brutality meets controlled hostility with a storyboard that is not far removed from a modern graphic horror movie.
Teaming up with Director ‘NIGEL CRANE’ (BIFFY CLYRO) for the shoot, RMD had the task of immortalising the character that fuels the anger behind their soundtrack to violence. He is the bands catalyst for their message; their icon of hatred; what EDDIE is to MAIDEN, ‘ROMEO’ is to these guys.
“Finally bringing Romeo to life for the video was awesome! Having something in addition to the band to concentrate on opens up a lot of different possibilities. It makes everything more interesting and helps us show the story that we are trying to convey.”
Bassist Ben Frost, talking about the path that the band took with the plot of the video. This involves ‘Romeo’; the bands representation of cosmetic worth and modern day superficiality kidnapping and torturing a man, his wife and the man’s lover. There are lessons to be learnt in this plot and the viewer is taken on a twisted journey in to the mind of Romeo. The video is put together superbly and features NUTS and ZOO magazine glamour models included FRONT cover star SAMMIE PENNINGTON.
Frost concluded “.... Hot chicks, violence and someone getting electrocuted to death! What more do you want from a metal video?” . “This video rips the arse out of anything else I ever seen and it’s the first of many!”
