    Chino Hills State Park
    Anza-Borrego State Park
    Julia Pfeiffer Burns State Park
    Malibu Creek State Park
    Prairie Creek Redwoods State Park
    Salton Sea State Recreation Area
    Torrey Pines State Beach
    Will Rogers State Historic Park
 
If so, you should know the Governor has proposed CLOSING all of these State Parks beginning July 1st.  In fact, he's proposed closing 80% of all California State Parks.  If the Governor is successful, park users will be trespassing on state property if they continue to use the park while closed.
 
I am officer on the board of the Chino Hills State Park Interpretive Association, the official supporting organization of Chino Hills State Park, and we are very alarmed by this news.  The Association strongly opposes the Park closures and encourages you to TAKE ACTION immediately.  Learn more about this imminent threat below.
 
BACKGROUND
In an attempt to save the state $143 million, Governor Schwarzenegger is closing down 221 of the 279 California State Parks.  View the State Park Closure list...   What exactly does this mean?  Basically, the Governor is trying to balance the budget and he has put our parks, beaches and recreation areas on the "chopping block" to quote the Orange County Register. 
 
Unfortunately, what he apparently doesn't understand is that by "saving" $143 million with the closures he is passing up $350 million in revenue, according to the California State Parks Foundation. State Parks core funding is through the State's General Fund.  However, for every dollar that leaves the General Fund for the Park's Department $2.35 comes back to the General Fund in park revenues and associated sales.
 
Sadly, it won't just be our Parks that will be impacted.    Hundreds of businesses (from gas stations to recreation retailers, grocery stores to cities) will lose revenue from park-users that buy goods before entering Parks.
 
HOW TO TAKE ACTION
If you are upset about this proposal please take action immediately.  Please also consider forwarding this email to your family, friends, and other park supporters so that they may take action too. Learn more on our website or get up to the minute news at www.calparks.org/stopclosures. The Joint Conference Committee of the Senate and Assembly will hear this item on Tuesday, June 2nd.  We'll know more after that hearing.

My songs have reached national radio audiences and appeared in feature films.  More importantly, my experience as a storyteller can help you learn how to tell your story in music.  I'm teaching a songwriting class; students will write one new song per month and perform it for their peers. We'll even put up a showcase at a local rock venue to get you on your way to performing.
