Upon further deliberation, I realize that Red Riding Hood, although I can claim it as my own, it is also an archetype for all women and girls.  I see it in my daughter and in my girlfriends.  And perhaps that is the power of the story.

Current mood:  contemplative
Patrick gave me a great birthday present.  It is this very large, very red wool Guatamalan wrap with a wide pattern woven into the border.  It is perfect.  I wear it as a security blanket of sorts, when I want to feel warm and cozy.  Today at the water cooler at work made some referance to Red Riding Hood, a comment that is not all together unfamiliar, another co-worker had made the same comment a few weeks ago.

When I was in high school, I had a better Red Riding Hood cloak.  It was technically a coat, but it had the wide triangular cut reminiscent of a cloak.  The coat itself was a dark blue, nearly black, with a deep red hood and red cuffed sleeves.   Although I had not purchased it intending the invocation, it was undeniable.   Still I did not consciously relate.
For some reason I always disliked the Little Red Riding Hood comparison.  Something too vulnerable, too naive was in the ring of it.  It smacked of the victim.   Perhaps it was because so many of the people making the comments were wolves.
I have always thought that people got the wrong lesson out of this story.  As if girls should walk in fear, stay on the path, don't wander, don't gather flowers and don't talk to strangers.  These things are not options for Little Red Riding Hood and anything less, she would walk as a shadow of herself.  She would, however, benefit from not standing at the edge saying, 'My, what big teeth you have.'
Having been released from the belly of the wolf, I can appreciate this lesson.  But I have every intention of continuing to wander off the path to pick flowers.

Hmmm....I ride on the edge of the generation that understands these ones and zeros and all of the things that they have to offer.  I look at my  friends'  and husband's blogs and they all look so easy.  I go to set up my own and I feel like a child.  Not unlike being in a candy store, it is all tantalizing and behind that big glass counter.

At least for the moment, I set up this account so that I could lurk and respond to the posts of my friends.  So if you know me, be patient, it may be a while before I get my own site rolling.

Part of this all seems so absurd, like the [current mood] field where one selects from a list an adjective to describe their emotional state.  I get the music, but the list of adjectives as opposed to coming up with my own, seems....well, synthetic.
