I took My Mama grocery shopping today. Saturday...brilliant. O well we had fun. But when we go its like we make an event out of it. It takes s forever. Im usually trailing her all over the store with my hands full of two cases of fancy feast (Grilled tuna, mind you. Two weeks ago she got one of those little moterized snow mobile HEB units.. She TOTALLY freaked me out almost running over me, And leaving me behind in the dust leaving me to start the Sudie Grocery isle search. anyway...we laugh a lot. And complain about them changing the store around...and how we cant get our favorite cereal anymore--we have these discusions every time. Sometimes on the way home we stop at my place so she can see her granchildren (my herd of cats) and then I find myself wandering through the neighborhood taking longer different routes to her home thinking how lucky I am to have her. I love her with all my heart. Plus she makes me laugh... a lot.

Hi Yall, Played an afternoon gig at the airport (thanks Nancy) and scrambled to get to Artz for our monday night regular gig. It was my mandolin player's son's 5th birthday. The place was packed. Like a hip Chucky Cheese (yucky cheese?) We started our set with I Been Working on The Railroad-hahaha Once again The Cat's Meow graced our guest set! Simply wonderful. So my friends, Just wanted to tell you about my new favorite female vocalist in Austin. Her name is kat Edmonson. Slim Richey and The Kat's Meow band includes Slim Richey on guitar and Francie "MeauxJeaux" on upright bass and occasionally, Floyd Domino on the piano. A fresh, new voice with an old, familiar sound...sounds easy. Here is her url Check it out if you love the old style of peggy Lee, Julie London, or Doris Day. http://www.myspace.com/katedmonson

Howdy! I aint feeling so well the last few days. Went in to the doc yesterday. Some little bug probably. Even though I act like Howard Hughes about washing my hands and using antiviral goo. Some little heathens kid germs were probably on my HEB shopping cart. Monday night at Artz was FABULOUS!!! Graced by their guest set, we listened to Kats Meow. The amazing Slim Richie on guitar and Meax Jeaux on bass and Kat Edmonson on vocals. This girl can flat ass sing!!!!! Beautiful phrasing, fine intuition on how to draw you in with her voice. She is my very favorite female singer in AUSTIN TEXAS now. And I am one picky bitch!!! Her stage presence and joy of singing are infectious. If you have not seen these guys you are truly mising out. here is their site Slim Richie/Kat's meow and here is a clip Slim Richie/Kat's meow">Kats meow video Here you can sample a bit of her amazing voice. Kat EdmonsonWher I feel better Ill have meaner things to say about things that irritate me. haha. xxx

Last night I sang at a petition singning rally for my friend Bill McNeal. I hadnt heard Gary P. in ages!! It was wonderful!! Brought back lots of memories of days gone by. I sang with Slim Ritchie and Meaux Feaux (is that right?) And sang a Cindy Walker song. She pased away a couple of days ago. So sad to lose such a talent. I sang YOU DON'T KNOW ME. One of the most beautiful songs I have ever heard. Davis and Sherri and my pal from Oklahoma Vohn and Beth and Mike were there. It was really fun. That is a cool old funky place and dont ask me why i have never been there.... Met the owner so I may be back!!! Then we went to a local Mexican place and ate. Yummy. Id go back! Then back on IYIYI 35 into the twinkling lights of our little town. litlte-HA!
Tonight we play our regular gig at Artz Rib House. Come on down. Naw on a bone. Gnaw? Nah? Ahhh fugit about it-just come on down-we start at 7:30-8:30 then theres a guest set. Ciao Bella's! Sarah Liz • Independent candidate for Texas Supreme Court Place 6 Bill McNeal hosts a petition-signing rally this weekend with musical guest Gary P. Nunn at San Marcos' Cheatham Street Warehouse. McNeal has until May 11 to gather just over 45,500 valid signatures of registered voters, in order to make it onto the November ballot – and he has pledged to do so, and to run his general election campaign, with just $500 of his own dough. Indeed, the Lockhart attorney's quest is about remaking an independent judiciary and he has vowed to refuse to take any campaign cash. "The goal here is to select a candidate who will make unbiased decisions," McNeal says. The March 26 rally will also feature local band Slaves of Utopia; Nunn is slated to play after 4pm. | You Are Austin | A little bit country, a little bit rock and roll.
You're totally weird and very proud of it.
Artistic and freaky, you still seem to fit in... in your own strange way.

Waaaay back, in a kingdom and time looong looong ago, Fiddlestix (the Stringband I grew up in- northern California) was in a TV series staring (before fame) Richard Dean Anderson (I still hear from him occasionally but its been a long time now) River Phoenix, Peter Horton (married at the time to Michelle Phieffer-what a BEAUTIFUL sweet woman) and the guy from Porky's 2 (yik) and a few more soon to be Soap Stars. It was shot mostly in Murphy's California close to our digs. The show always had cool guests. Among them Hoytt Axton and Levon. The series was corny. We were the "band" of the Porky's guy in the show. It was kinda like Bonanza-everyone living with the married brother and his wife...except they would burst into song..kinda like seeing Hoss burst into a ballad about all of his dead girfriends/wives (why did they always die?) at the supper table. But we met good people and it was fun for us. The rap party was at Ricky Dean's. That night I sat on the floor (ah sweet youth) for about two hours and sang duets with Levon. Simply heaven. Totally. I remember the chords he showed me to share your love (kinda an obscure one I think) and we sang 2 part. Truly one of the best nights in my life. IM not sure how long--months years... But time passed...... And we heard Levon and Rick were playing at some sh t hole in the valley not far from us. So we called and opened for them. What a blast. Rick on guitar and Levon on mandolin. Then they came in the dressing room (closet???) and Sang Mexico to me!!!!! They had learned it. We kept in touch over the years--but I lost contact with he and his wife Sandy about 10 years ago. My friend Cindy Cashdollar (you heard her with asleep at the wheel at berry on pedal steel-shes going out with Bob Dylan in a week to tour for quite awhile GOOD FOR HER!!!) is from there and kinda kept me updated. How they were doing, his throat cancer etc.... So outa nowhere I got the email from him and Amy his daughter in Olabelle (also played Strawberry) saying hello and asking for the words to Mexico. He still remembered it!!! Well hell yes you can record Mexico!! He even added a little thing from what he had been signing in his head--and it works-about soothing his soul. It sounds so cool. Totally his phrasing. Not mine!!! Soooooooo Levon! Amy sings harmony. Its too cool! Since the cancer was on his vocal cord they did radiation. He is doing great. And can sing again!!!!! If you go to his website you can hear the first gig or recording after the cancer. A bit weak but you definitely know who it is!!!!!@!! OK Ill shut up now. THE BAND---THE BEST ROCKNROLL BAND IN HISTORY!!!!!!!!!! I wish I owned the last waltz DVD. Id watch it tonight too! I keep wanting to ask him about that crazy little intro-the circus like one. Its also at the end. I would have crawled over broken glass to go to that show. What year was that? Anyway thanks Bruce for stirring up blissful crazy memories. Love, Sarah Liz PS I would also like to say that J. Phoenix is a big fat liar pants on fire saying he had to "learn" to play and sing. On breaks of that filming, the Phoenix kids entertained us with their own FULL band. They were TINY then. All very musically talented. The hippie mom and dad were always in tow. Thats showbiz....

Once again Austin turned into a huge magic music city. As if no normal people existed. Lots of PIB's, old rockers, young songwriters-The good the bad and the ugly! Most of us looked the later after the last note was played. I played it safe and hung out on South Congress where there was air to breathe and no badges and no cover charges. Better people watching at Guerro's than ANY airport I garan-damn-T-Ya. I did hook up with some pals I miss dearly for breakfast at Kerby Lane. Iris Dement and Greg Brown and Monique and Amy Helm, Anna Egge and my partners in crime, Judy and Rose. We went to KUT studios to hear a live set of Amy and her band Olabelle. Amazing-simply beautiful!!! My good friend Joe Weed from Califoria came to town and we recorded a cool old tune called "ON LAKE CHAMPLAIN". That was big fun. Master producer and fiddle player and just one of the nicest people you would ever hope to meet. I played SXSARTZ at our usual hang. Many great showcases all week. Chris Gage and Christine Albert, Michael Austin, John Emory, Danny Britt. All the usual suspects with out of town color thrown in to boot. Also caught an incredible set by slim Richie and The Dream Band. That little gal Kat can SING@@@!!!!!! It was a great week of music even if I am getting to old to take the huge crowds. I just cant mosh like I used to. Do folk musicians even HAVE a mosh pit??? I do remember chicken wire somewhere in my sorrid past......
