On Thursday, June 5th, Pistols frontman John Howie, Jr. will make his first post-Pistols appearance performing as part of the Cave's monthly Songwriter Spotlight. He will be accompanied by the heavenly pedal steel sounds of Nathan Golub. The Spotlight is hosted by Brandon Herndon of Twilighter and John Pardue of Puritan Rodeo, who incidentally have a wonderful new album, Magic Suit Ball, about to be released. John and Nathan will be debuting several new soon to be recorded originals. Come on out!

In the "more regretful announcements" dept., I'm sorry to say that due to scheduling conflicts beyond our control, the Pistols will not be able to perform as scheduled at the Cash Bash this Saturday. I personally apologize for any and all inconvenience that this has caused any of our fans, but it was and is unavoidable. Which means that for now, our last scheduled show-at least with guitarist Scott McCall-will take place this Friday the 22nd at the Broad St. Cafe in Durham. We urge y'all to come on out, it should be a lot of fun. As for Mr. McCall, his fans should tune in to the Tonight Show on February 25th to view the television debut of his new gig in the capacity of guitarist for former Pistols duet partner Tift Merritt. Thanks for listening, and again, our apologies to our fans and Richard Boyd and all at the Cash Bash. Take care-

John Howie, Jr.

It is with a heavy heart that the Pistols announce to their friends that after ten years of recording and twelve years of performances, the band is calling it a day in 2008. We're still booking a few shows-though not many-and we're going to try and make it long enough to have a "last show" blowout sometime later in the year. Keep an eye on this page or www.twodollarpistols.com for updates on the band's final appearances and what the individual members will be up to in the future. Very special thanks to those of you who have supported us over the years-we couldn't have done it without you. Come see us and say Adios!

Current mood:  sad
With the passing of another day comes the sad news of the passing of another country music giant. My memories of Porter begin in childhood-the TV show, my Dad's albums, my Mom even called me "Porter Wagoner" sometimes, in an accent imitating Porter's. When the Pistols played Opryland in 2003, I walked into the backstage men's room and lo and behold, there stood Porter. Terrified, I fled the room and hurried to the safety of our dressing room, where I would remain until our performance. Call me a chicken, but there was no way I was ready to meet the man who had the guts to never give up on the Nudie suit, record songs as diverse as Lonely Comin' Down, Dark End of the Street (as a duet!) and Who Will Buy the Wine, not to mention putting James Brown on the Opry! The Two Dollar Pistols owe an unfathomable debt to to the Thin Man from the Plains. Goodbye, neighbor. God bless.

Luck willing, the end of April will mark the release of the Two Dollar Pistols' sixth compact disc, Here Tomorrow Gone Today, for the newly-minted 8th House Records. The album, produced by Southern Culture on the Skids frontman Rick Miller at his Kudzu Ranch Studios, boasts twelve tracks of signature Pistols sounds and a host of guest appearances from local luminaries. Two of the Tres Chicas, Lynn Blakey and Tonya Lamm provide beautiful backing vocals on two tracks, and Southern Culture on the Skids chanteuse/bass player Mary Huff harmonizes with Pistols singer John Howie, Jr. on one cut. Longtime pedal steel amigo Clyde Mattocks (Johnny Paycheck, Supergrit Cowboy Band) lent his talents to five of the tracks as well. Full on honky-tonk based country with hints of 70's Countrypolitan, Soul and more, all delivered in the inimitable Pistols style. Stay tuned for sneak-peek tracks up soon, and keep an eye on two dollar pistols official website for more details as they happen!
