After 10 years of dedicating every minute of spare (and often not spare) time to Punk & Oi In The UK, the time has come to bid farewell. That's right folks *circumstances have dictated I am calling it a day.

* The circumstance in question being a baby due in 8 weeks time! Over the years I have not taken any holiday (except honeymoon), taken time away from the site, had weekends off except for festivals as the website has constantly screamed for my attention - now I need that time for my forth coming child. I am the only can do things by 100% and that will apply more than ever to me being a parent.

I am proud of what Punk & Oi In The UK has achieved over the years, especially as it only ever set off to be a few pages with the type of information I wanted to find out and was impossible to find anywhere on the internet for the UK at the time. Ie what gigs were on, how to get in touch with record labels and not much more than that. It never started out with any grand scheme, any promises to anyone, or to change the world. Sometimes people have placed great expectations on the site, but please remember it is just a humble online listing of information. Punk & Oi In The UK has grown organically over the years. One of my frustrations has been I have had many more ideas than time has allowed me to implicate. I have always worked at the same time as running the site, and no matter how I try to get round (for quite a period of time only having time to sleep of 5 hours a night) there are only so many hours in a day.

Over the years Punk & Oi In The UK (and me - there has only ever been myself running the website) have survived many a challenge, but have stood strong. Here are just a few of them in no particular order that you may or may not have known about; -

  • Working 70 hours a week (including main job and site) for the majority of the last 10 years.
  • Being told if I did not start spending less time on a computer I was likely to lose the use of my arms (due to joint and nerve problems caused by overuse)
  • Successfully, running Punk & Oi In The UK, working full time in IT and retraining for a different career in Fitness (hence you seeing less of DRUNK-Oi-UK).
  • Leaving the rat race and working for myself as a Personal Traininer which has taken on a life of it's own. The thought was once I left IT, I would be able to dedicate more time to Punk & Oi In The UK, but I soon found when I had to earn an income from my PT business it meant spending a lot of time on it (and you do not get to add gigs when your boss is not looking, as you are your own boss).
  • Mother's rapidly diteriating health, and helping provide care for her: Diagnosed with Alzheimer's in her 50's around 8 years ago. She was aware of her condition until a couple of years ago. Almost having to get her sectioned to get her into a nursing home as carers would no longer look after her due to it taking 4 people and a hoist to move her. Her having strokes and being given just days to live in November. Not understanding her first grandchild is on the way.
  • Suffering from stress
  • Coping with nearest and dearest with extreme depression.
  • Complications in pregnancy and being told to take it easy (what is that?)
  • Being approached by an established company who wanted to input £50,000.00 - £100,000.00 into Punk & Oi In The UK and form a shareholders partnership. Looking into it and turning it down.
  • Spending thousands of own (much needed) money in webspace, domain names, solicitors, accountants, electricity etc etc
  • Having personal threats put on the Punk & Oi In The UK Message Board (anyone remember the days of the board?)
  • Having many other slatings on many other message boards – yawn
  • Accusations of selling out

Never a dull moment, eh!

With my hand on my heart I can honestly say Punk & Oi In The UK has always stayed independent and DIY, I have never let anyone dictate to me and to me that is Punk Rock.

A heart felt thank you to anyone and everyone who has helped make the site what it has been.

PunkOiUK – RIP
(1998 – 2008)

ps Feelers were put out to see if Punk & Oi In The UK could be passed on as a going concern with acknowledgment for time and effort. To date no satisfactory arrangement has been agreed to.

pps Please can you take me off any mailing lists

ppps - you will no doubt see me with stalls at gigs trying to sell off the stock from the shop

I am sadded to say Graham from York, a man of great kindness and humour passed away on the early hours of Thrusday morning. He will be remembered fondly and missed by many. He has been a loyal member of the punk scene for many a year and it will be a duller place without him.

Graham died at in hospital 4am Thursday 24th May from skin cancer. He had found out just a couple of months ealier after collapsing around a trip to Goa. His decline was very quick and left him bloated and in a wheel chair.

Graham will be remembered and cremated at York crematorium on Fri. 1st June at 12.30pm. There will be a chance to get together and drink to him at The Winnning Post afterwards. All are welcome. Donations if you wish to St leonards Hospice York.

There is the possibility of a Benifit Gig at York Fibbers on Saturday July 14 - more details to follow.

--------------------------------

Ironically my husband and I spent a lot of time with Graham @ Morecambe in October as that weekend he was supposed to meet up with another mutral friend (Keith/Badge Man - Leeds), who we all found out at the gig had trajically died a couple of days before hand At the time none of us had any idea that Graham would be next.

Graham of York - RIP

Sunday, February 04, 2007

It has come to our attention via serveral people both in person and by email that there has been various peices of misinformation being spread about our involvment in Concrete Jungle and a certain Wattie Buchan

We are not prepared to listen to let the bullshit continue and so have decided to copy in our responce to a posting which appeared on a message board last week.

Our comments are the ones in bold - the thread was removed just after we replied so many of you may not have had chance to read our comeback which is rather unfair.  We are taking this step so we have chance to reply as it does not seem to be going away, we are not doing this to stir things.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Yawn, yawn - this reminds me why I am not a fan of message boards, forums etc (and to be honest as a rule due to being busy 110% of the time I do not have time to visit them).

I understand it is a chance for people to express opinions and gives everyone an even spring board, BUT it is also the place where many, HALF TRUTHS and sometimes NO TRUTHS are borne.   Remember don't believe everything you read (but of course believe what I put )!

I see Daryl Smith (Sparrer/Bargy/all round nice geezer etcetera) has rightly addressed the points surrounding him and I will take the unprecedented step of doing the same on the PunkOiUK side of things.

Symond is running concrete jungle and Daryl from Argy Bargy/Sparrer handles the bands
Symond wanted the Exploited
Daryl said no way

Symond insisted so Daryl started trying to work out the details
well Wattie wanted loads of shit PLUS more dosh than even COCKNEY REJECTS he wanted like 5000 GBP and kept fucking about

meanwhile Symond had that site Punk & Oi in the UK selling tickets
Daryl could NOT talk Wattie down-even by a 1000 quid
so Symond said fuck it-take the jock cunt off the bill

Wattie went to Rebecca who runs Punk/Oi and threatened her until she stopped selling selling tickets AND had her refund nearly 8000 quid in already sold tickets as shes apparently scared of Wattie!!!!!!!!!

Firstly I would like to say that I have NEVER EVER been threatened by Wattie (again I do not personally know him) and for that matter have not ever been threatened by anyone else from any other band.  I would say 'apparently' being the word in the above statement!  I have no reason to be scared of Wattie and at this stage would just like to say 'for fucks sake are we back at school now, or what'?  Grow up!   And to quote the obvious 'united we stand, divided we fall.

Secondly, the amount Punk & Oi In The UK sold remains undisclosed to EVERYONE!  So how anyone could put an amount and a wrong amount at that is beside me.  I am tempted at this point to shout "higher" "or lower"!

Seeing it seems to be up for discussion, we wrote to every customer explaining due to various factors we regretted to inform them that Punk & Oi In the UK have decided to resign from acting as a Ticket Agent for this event.

We would like to point out that we do not do anything hastily and without a lot of considered thought. Surly it is better to pull out at this stage rather than cause more disruption later on?  We apologised to each and everyone for the inconvenience and refunded (at a loss to PunkOiUK) the amount in full including booking fee and informed them of alternative places to buy tickets.  We have since also forwarded an email from Symond to  each individual and placed banners all over our ticket page http://www.punkoiuk.co.uk/tickets and items on the news page none of which we were obliged to do. Prior to this we had spent a lot of valuable time on the event , so your point is?

then The Exploited's manager rings Symond up and says "sorry we couldnt iron out details-maybe next year Wattie will play"
what a fucking cunt

Finally, I would also like to question where this information has come from.  As I have already pointed out some of the information had never been disclosed, so very strange!  Either someone has a genuine case of verbal diarrhoea or it is someone with a grudge to bear - either way I suggest you spend your time more constructively helping the scene.

Point made
Over & out
Don't expect an encore
Rebecca - PunkOiUK

all publicity is.....

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

OK, hopefully that draws a line under that one.

Thank you for people who got in touch -  if you have any future concerns etc please let us know.

Cheers

Punk & Oi In The UK now offer Gift Certificates which make for great presents

-------------------------

How Gift Certificates Work
Gift certificates are similar to cash and can be reused.
If a person has a £30 gift certificate, and purchases £20 worth of goods plus £2 shipping, the remaining £8 can be used again at some later time.

Shipping is always paid for automatically by gift certificate. If the gift certificate is less than the amount ordered the customer will be required to pay the difference between the amount purchased and the value of the gift certificate. This is automatically calculated at Checkout. Gift certificate expires after 365 days of purchase.

Using A Gift Certificate
If you are the lucky person to receive a gift certificate, you select your goods as normal in the PunkOiUK store and then proceed to Checkout. The gift certificate number is entered on the same page as other customer details. The certificate is checked at this time. It is checked for value remaining, authorisation and expiration date. The Gift certificate amount is deducted from the purchase price.

Click here to check it out.

  • We are continuously building the already good selection, so keep checking back and we are interested to hear if you have any suggestions on what you would like available?

Sound Interviews

Look and Listen

We have been busy again trying (in some cases more successfully than others) to get under band skins. We are particularly proud of the Unseen interview we did last month.

The Unseen interview is a sound file saved in rm (real media) format. To listen to the file you need a Real Player which can be downloaded for free from Real.com

There are loads more interviews planned for the new year

The Year That Was

Where to in 2007 ?

How has 2006 been for you?

30 years of punk - something to celebrate or embarrassing commercialism?
(and is 30 the new 21 cos sure as hell we keep seem to be having the 30 year thing)

On a wider scale it has been great to see all the new young true punk bands emerge, we at Punk & Oi In the UK welcome it with open arms and say bring on the new breed. Unlike many of the bands which cropped up a few years ago playing ska-punk, many of the bands to come out in 2006 did not loose their 77 n 80's punk sound whilst mixing in fresh ideas, which like it or not is easier to understand to us older punks than some of the sax driven stuff. Rebecca has recently found her self dancing at gigs where at 33 she is pretty much twice the age of the others dancing (but there is still life in the old Byrd) and at one local gig there were four pre-teens at the front! The only thing that amuses us is that many of pre-geriatrics learnt all they knew on punk from their parents, so don't get the fun of rebelling.

No one could have failed to have noticed the amount of festivals that have cropped up (plays havoc with your hols at work and bank balance), but another thing we have noticed is bands getting out and doing if for themselves. Bands seem to be getting together more and more often fed up with promotion and are arranging their own collaborated tours. Watch this space for more of such events to be announced.

We have experienced that over the past 12 months many punks are starting to mellow in their attitude to oi! skinheads. Which as you can guess from the name of the website we think is a good thing. There is enough prejudice from the rest of society without creating more divisions.

The final observation is psychobilly seems to be making a return to the punk feternity

-------------------------

In the wibbly, wobbly world of PunkOiUK, 2006 has been an extremely busy year. The main website continues to grow and at times attracts around half a million visitors a month.

This year we have also seen the emergence of the PunkOiUK shop with now over 800 lines, which we do not think is bad for less than 12 months of business. We launched our My Space page. Sponsored Partisans / PFS tour. Published results of pUKe (PunkOi UK e-wards). We got quite a lot of free press in the media and last but not least have just gone live as a ticket agency.

And what makes us most proud is we did it all ourselves... along with everyone who keeps this site alive by adding gig dates, sending news, stuff to review and other bits and bobs. Plus of course the fantastic reviewers and photographers. THANK YOU x

Let's make 2007 even better!

P.S.

We listened

Those who do not have visual problems may have noticed that we have changed the colour of the hyperlinks on Punk & Oi In The UK as we have recently had feedback from a couple of people saying the yellow makes you go ouch. We hope the change helps.

If there is anything else we can to make your visit to the site better, please let us know?

And finally

Remember to send us NEWS , as it is great to for everyone to know what is going on and get adding your own gigs, please.

If you have any feedback or suggestions for us to make the website or news letter more relevant please e-mail your comments to rebecca@punkoiuk.co.uk

If you wish to discontinue your subscription to PunkOiUK newsletter please send a blank e-mail to rebecca@punkoiuk.co.uk putting UNSUBSCRIBE in the subject box.

As a rule we do not reply to emails sent to our My Space account, instead due to the ability to file and process emails correctly offline we accept emails only from the email address listed on the main Punk & Oi In the UK website, so please make sure you use this if you need to get in touch.

Monday, October 30, 2006
Keith Jones from Leeds has passed away from an un-expected heart attack. His mother found him dead in bed on the morning of Thursday 26th October.

Keith was a huge fan of punk, always at gigs both locally and a far - he was supposed to be in both Morecambe and Glasgow this weekend. You go to a gig and you knew he would be there.

He was a gentle giant, and an all round lovely bloke who was a pleasure to chat to. He will be sadly missed by all at Punk & Oi In The UK, and many many others around the country.

Keith's funeral is at Lawnswood crematorium in Leeds on Thursday 2nd November at 10.20am.

This message is for the person who posted a message via the
Punk & Oi In The UK website, but did not give a correct email
address so I could defend the acccusation of 'sell out'!

---------------------------------------------------------------------

Message contents:

You used to try to do a bit for the scene but now your just a sellout

------------------

My reply - which I would have sent directly
if I had been left a correct email address!

Why do you say I am a sell out?
Just so you are clear, I put in around 30 hours a week each week in to the Punk & Oi In The UK website / online shop.
I spent huge amount on the site and buying the intial stock last year which I mainly self funded.  I work full time
as well, and as a result have to have physiotherapy once a week because my arms, neck and shoulders are so knackered
from so much computer work - plus I help care for my mother with dementia.
Yes, I opened a shop - the reason being I cannot carry on like this without  - quote my Dr & Physio "being on pain
killers for the rest of my life and pretty much loosing the use of my arms".  I hoped the shop would let me work part
time so I could carry on with the site - as it turns out that is not possible, so I am retraining away from IT so I
can still run the site. It was either my career in IT or Punk & Oi In The UK, and the site won - hence me having to
learn a new job skill so I still have something to live on.  I would say that was dedication enough.
I run the site all on my own except for reviews, as well as the detrimental effect on my health, it does not do my
marriage much good either. So why do it? I LOVE punk and want to know information about what is going on and share
that with others, the day that passion dies, the day I stop.
BTW I turned down a 3-month ad and the money that goes with it this week as it was for Captain Sensible new political
party, it would have been against the sites apolitical stance to put on a political advert. Plus I turned down one
hundred grand 3 years ago as I felt it was not in the interest of the website.
So if you ever see me at a gig come and tell me what your problem is to my face, as I have no problem with where me
or the site are at. And if you want to see other news / gig on there - send them in!!!
