We had an awesome Halloween night performing FOOTSTEPS OF A NOBODY at The Guild Theatre last night. It was a good turnout, great ambiance and my heartfelt gratitude to all who contributed so much to the show - fellow producer, Harry Paternoster, of Walking Into Bars who co-produced the show with Aspinauts Players, Paul Spears who is both The Aspinauts drummer and technical manager doing the audio, arranging the stage, driving the trolley, Stuart Moore and Chris Samuel who are absolute gems and attended the shop and were the most wonderful ushers for the night, Anthony Julian who really rose to the occasion on the keyboards and provided us the seamless yet theatrical transitions from prose to song throughout the show, all the members of the band for their musical and personal professionalism and being so damned fab to work with, the venues technition and supervisor who made it a great venue to work from, and to the wonderful audience who got so into the show. THANK YOU. Next stop for the show, Jan 10th and Jan 12 in Los Angeles and Jan 16th in New Jersey! Then back to Aus with the show for a night at Geelong West's Woodbin Theatre on Jan 23rd 2010. Warmly, Donna Williams *)

Hi folks, Fresh from having performed Footsteps of a Nobody for 300 secondary school students this week, all of us in The Aspinauts are all really excited to be performing Footsteps of a Nobody on the full stage at The Guild Theatre in Union House, Melbourne Uni this Saturday night (Halloween!) at 8pm (finishes 9pm with question time to follow). We've been in The Observer, on radio and in The Age tomorrow, but if any of you would like to join us tix are only $10 concession (and groups of 10+) and $15 full and whilst you can pre-book online, it's a 90 seat theatre so you'll still be able to get tickets at the door. We have a producer on board this time, the show has evolved over its performances so hoping this is our best one yet. We have journos along to review this show and if we do good we might eventually reach our goal of playing the Vic Arts Centre. Well, one can dream. Hope to see some of you there. Feel free to send it on to those you feel it might interest. Warmly, Donna Williams *) -- Donna Williams, Dip Ed, BA Hons. Author, artist, singer-songwriter, screenwriter. Back from a most grueling tour throughout the UK and to Ireland, I've
seen over thousands of faces in 15 days, stood on chairs and tables,
recited poetry to gestural signing, taken questions, orated with
passion and sang Broken Biscuit from the musical Footsteps of a Nobody whilst The Aspinauts appeared behind me, projected onto a screen and musical played through the audio system as I sang rigged up with a wireless mic.
The audiences loved it with people asking where they can get Broken
Biscuit. Of course we're working on it and hope to have it available
soon on CD so watch this space. In the meantime, you can still catch
the last Melbourne performance of Footsteps of a Nobody for 2009 and come and see Broken Biscuit performed in the show. In the meantime, here's the slideshow.
warmly,
Donna Williams, Dip Ed, BA Hons.

I’m really buzzed at the news that I’ll get to perform our
one-woman-musical, Footsteps of a Nobody, in the US in Jan 2010. With
musical support from a wonderful accomplished pianist, David Moscoe,
it looks like I’ll be able to bring the show to Long Beach, LA and then
I’ll fly on to New Jersey to perform it with the support of a second
pianist.
Whilst not musically supported by The Aspinauts
this time around, it will be a great chance to bring the show to
hundreds of people who’d otherwise not get to see it. I know the first
performance will be on January 10th 2010 in Long Beach as part of a
whole day conference hosted by Rita Rubin, the mother of Sue Rubin whose groundbreaking documentary, Autism Is A World, made it to the Oscars.
There will also be a performance of the Footsteps of a Nobody show in Burbank on Jan 12th and a performance of Baloombawop at the same theatre on the 13th. I’ll keep you posted with all updates for dates and venues. In the meantime, our next Melbourne performance of Footsteps of a Nobody is at The Guild Theatre on Sat 31st October 2009, 8pm. You can book here.
You
can see pics from the show here.

Baloomba-wop
Once upon tough time,
there were Grumpy Gallumphies who didn’t like strangeness it made them
quite grumpy. Then a magical train arrived from a dream and those who
could dare, they had dared to get in. It was off to Baloomba-wop where
they had purple rain, and a shop that even sold new replacement brains!
They
would meet Charlie Warmton whose best friend was a blanket, and the
Brookenstein Fox who lives up on a shelf, and Bluster-McFluster with
his technical gadgets and the Gimmety-Gimme with everything for
herself. They’d meet
Booger-Looger
who picks his nose to perfection and the Whirly-twirl-girl who lacks
any direction. And not to mention the Gadoodleborger who runs a magical
shop which just happens to be where the train is to stop.
But
deep in Baloomba-wop, a Grumpy Gallumphy, the notorious Dame
Grumpty-Doobee-the-Fourth, she doesn’t like strangeness at all so she
wants to make everyone so very ‘normal’ of course. She is looking to
change Baloomba-wop for forever. She’s determined to make all these
weirdoes quite plain. Will she be stopped before everything’s ‘normal’,
I wonder. Or succeed making all be exactly the same?
baloombawop
Baloomba-wop
is an interactive, off the wall, musical adventure for kids and kids at
heart. It should appeal to fans of Dr Seuss, Lewis Carroll, Roald Dahl.
The land of Baloomba-wop is magically brought to life through the
complete dagdom of The Aspinauts and the gestural signing and characterisations of their storyteller-lead singer, Donna Williams.
It runs for an hour and audience members are invited to actively
participate throughout. This diversity-friendly, affordable show is suitable for schools, holiday programs, theatres and festivals.
First public performance coming up Sat 26th September at Carlton Nth Learning Centre, 20 Princes St Carlton Nth. Tix $5-$7.50 at the door.

At our last Footsteps of a Nobody show we met
Melbourne indie theatre producer (actor, writer, director), Harry Paternoster of Walking Into Bars. Harry
was really moved by the show, so much so he expressed interest in
co-producing the show. A cup of tea and several macadamias
later, Harry was welcomed on board as co-producer for the show for
several of its upcoming performances, with the next Melbourne one at
The Guild Theatre on Sat 31st Oct.
