MySpace is the NEW Club Scene?

Just so you all know up front, I am a musician just like you.
I'm not some internet marketer collecting addresses to distribute spam.
I've played in bands since I was a teenager, and over that time I have learned a lot about what it's like to be a working musician.
I am also a commercial artist, and have blended these two most important interests in my life together.

When I began playing out, my band mates and I would plaster the area of an upcoming show with our posters and promo flyers hoping to get people to come to the show.

Make no mistake...you will not succeed in music without promoting yourself.

Even back then, there were so many bands competing in the Boston Music Scene for their audience it seemed like an almost impossible undertaking...and now, it's even more congested with bands trying to get the next gig or record deal.

There are a million bands on MySpace...maybe more!

Ask yourself, what does my band actually do to be proactive with promoting the band and it's music?
I know, I know...players play and promoters promote...and that is absolutely correct.
But who's in charge of your image commercially?
Have you even thought about how your band looks compared to your competition?
What processes have you adopted to promote the bands events, gigs, releases or connection to your fanbase?
If you have none, you need some.
If you have some...you need more!

MySpace is the NEW Club Scene!

MySpace has been around for a few years now, but the surface is barely scratched relative to promoting your band and music.
Recently I had a conversation with Billy Sheehan while attending one of his clinics. Here's a guy who most know as being one of the world's best rock bass players. He has played more shows in more countries than even HE could tell you about, but what was the topic we discussed...MySpace.
That's no lie.
Billy and I were amazed how many bands are getting signed just from their popularity on MySpace!
Now, your music will ultimately determine your level of success, but before the world hears how awesome you guys are, someone has to read about you, or see one of your shows, or notice your band from the virtual sea of other bands and players who swim these same waters.

Little Fish...Big Pond

Now, I cannot guarantee that my brand of promotion will get you on the bill with today's top talent.
And no amount of promotion eliminates the need for a cool unique sound or the chops to make your instrument sing...but I can honestly say that you MUST promote yourself, and it can be the difference between your band getting noticed, and another hard working band being overlooked.

MySpace Bulletins as Promotion

You may think that sending out MySpace bulletins about an upcoming show or CD release constitutes a promotional strategy.

The fact is very few people read them.
If you have more than 1500 MySpace friends, bulletins sent to your page are hidden until you purposely open the link to read them.
My page has several thousand friends.
A new bulletin is posted about every 10 to 15 seconds!
Imagine how much time it will take to search out a particular bulletin from Band X in that list of random posts?
Am I saying not to send bulletins?
Absolutely not! Every single thing you do to promote yourself is a step in the right direction...my message is about being noticed...while others are not.

MySpace comments sent to your fan base will generate far more attention to your event.
But not just some text filled plea for attendance at your show is gonna set yourself apart from the crowd.

Creating Cool Animated Promotional Graphics for anything on your calendar!

That's why I have bands, and many individuals, commissioning me to create eye catching promotional advertising for their MySpace pages.
Animated bulletins, comments, logos, artistic enhancements for their home pages, and animated avatars will set yourself visually apart from the universe of other musicians feeding in the same waters.
Using your own materials, or original art concepts I can create new, cool and interesting promos that you can send to your fans, or to embellish your home page...without costing you a lot of money.
Take that last photo shoot to a new level when I blend, edit and reconfigure your portfolio in a way which everyone will take notice of.

You need to STAND OUT!

Remember, I'm a musician as well, and I know all about how many bands don't properly promote themselves.
If you think that having a smoking guitarist or an awesome singer will be enough to get you to the Promised Land you may be kidding yourself.
There are thousands of excellent players being ignored all across MySpace because they don't know, or don't care about the value of promoting their talents...don't let your hard work go unnoticed!
