HELLO.

so, we played at The Cooler in Bristol on Friday and good lord what a night we had. the music was kicked off by Hi-Fiction Science before our good friends Light of Words took those attending on an atmospheric musical journey, leaving us to smash out a couple of tunes and get feet a-tapping.

the upstanding gentlemen at Suit Yourself magazine sent down a reviewer, and here's what he made of it...

"The Motherload move much more into the indie frame [than HFS and LOW]. Modern traditionalism? Traditional in the sense that they’ve cut themselves back to the classic, three-piece, post-punk new-wave band. Keeping it tight. No need for excess. The lead guitar work reminds me of The Cure’s first work. Picked out melodies remind me of 10:15 on a Saturday Night. The rhythm section brings to mind Queens Of The Stone Age; a joyful but menacing thud-thud-thud. The Motherload combine these two diverse styles well and create their own musical vision." Mike Clarke, Suit Yourself Nov 09

many thanks to those of you who came down (especially those who were with us until the wee hours - good effort guys) we had a cracker and are already peeing our pants a bit about playing at Mr Wolfs next week. just to clarify, that's peeing ourselves due to excitement not fear/overhydration/old age.

Being in a band isn't always a bed of roses.....you come across some funny types, dream weavers, pretenders and some tight fisted beggars for the love of your art. But it can also be the most rewarding of pastimes and the last week was one of those times....

We spent last week flicking between an acoustic and a normal set preparing for a Friday night in Camden and last night at the wonderful Mr Wolfs playing acoustic.  Chuck in a last minute call from BBC Radio Wiltshire to have a chat and play some live acoustic songs on their 7-9pm Thursday night slot (listen to them, and us here BBC Introducing - The Motherload) and it was quite the week of fun

So on bonfire night we took our guitars and chatted about our hopes and aspirations. Good to be on the radio for the first time as The Motherload, and it went swimmingly apart from the reference to us going to the toilet together.....its not true.

Friday night at Camden rock was great, good turn out on a dire rainy Friday eve, people danced and sent us on the long drive home in grand spiwits.

Last night saw an acoustic set with us and Paul Besselle&Slipdown dog,we went for a bosa nova, jazz and occasionally sad song approach. Piers got the organ grinding and our violin specialist (cheers drew) made it an interesting, experimental sound.

Right I'll sign off - have a listen to the radio show and listen to the voices behind The Motherload....and giggle at us.

We'll have the MP3's for the acoustic songs available soon,

Sound as a pound,

well, that felt like a good way to get onto the subject of acoustic gigs, but having thought about it, we still need shitloads of electricity to play acoustic so it doesnt really work. but you get the idea.

so... we're doing our second ever official 'unplugged' gig in a couple of weeks - Monday 9th November to be precise - at Mr Wolfs In Bristol and we are well up for it. our first one was at the wicked Porter Cellar bar in Bath a few months ago and it was a cracking night, a real treat to play in a bit of a different format and a challenge to re-work our tunes to make em work all stripped-down like. and the sitting down bit is much easier on the old back.

so, as i write, nelson is wrestling with his gee-tar shuffling around a few of our new tunes and a whole load of as-yet-unheard material that we've been saving especially for such an occasion to make sure they sound sweet as hell for all your lovely ears, rob is turning his house upside down looking for his hotrods (kinda flimsy drumsticks that dont make as much noise as grown-up ones) and i am teaching myself to sing more quietly and practicing my foot-tapping ready for the Big Night.

if you fancy something a bit different, get your asses down to Mr Wolfs and check out what we've got in store for y'all. its a wicked bar anyways and they serve delicious noodles all night long. and lots of attractive people go there. shameless but true.

Good day to you all - this is Andrew J Nelson reporting for Mothernews from our sunbathed countryside office's.

We got a review this week from the the much revered RockPulse Music Zine and it was a good'un at that......

Here is what they thought of us courtesy of Rob Sayce and Rock Pulse:-

"Combine the laid back, impossibly catchy melodic styles of the UK’s chart bothering indie hordes with an undercurrent of angular guitar work, a bedrock of bounding rhythm and round it off in a refreshingly unassuming approach; voila, you have Bristol trio The Motherload, who bring us their new EP ‘Randy Roamers,’ fresh from an impressive array of airplay slots and well received gigs. From the three tracks on said EP it’s hardly difficult to see why the band have been raising some eyebrows in areas of the UK music community lately, with the lively guitars and difficult to resist bounce of opener ‘Pretentious Retentions’,’ Ska-evoking exuberance of ‘Hard Work or Hard Luck’ and unashamedly poppy chorus of ‘Ten Again’ uniting to create an all-round jovial, fun experience. It seems evident that their prestigious support slots, so far including Arctic Monkeys, The Ordinary Boys, and a number more, are set to continue... Certainly, The Motherload have the capacity to make a lasting impression in their shared future. To borrow from a song title, there seem to be no problems about the hard work here, but hard luck? In this case, perhaps not."

Go and check out their page @ www.rockpulse.co.uk

I know what you're thinking - I never knew 'viola' was spelt like that either - you learn something every day people's.
So briefly in other news;
We were due to grace the stage at the much heralded Moles Club Unsigned Showcase last night but unfortunately Anders/me/idiot bust my knee up trying playing bloke games. HOWEVER.....we have been added to the bill for the 26th October so come down and show us some love....

P.S - We have another bad assed funky assed video on the very tip of the horizon so watch out for that....it'll be a sneak preview into one of the next EP's songs.

Good Evening Mother-Followers

Hope Monday is/has treated/treating you like gold.........

It was a top weekend in our world....friday night spent practicing and getting excited about our latest offering by way of songs, then day dreaming about another tune that we hope will become a sort of nursery rhyme with a rock twanged theme to it!

THE FLEECE & GOOD PROMOTION

Saturday night @ the Fleece in Bristol - always has/always will be one of our very favourite venues. Sound was great and the night - the first in what will be a very successful operation - was called Gimmie Shelter. We have worked with some good and some very poor promoters in our short life as The Motherload but this was superb.....

Three great bands starting with Scarlett Rascal followed by ourselves and headed by the 45's, showcasing the boys from the Yes Rebel's  side project....the musical mix was spot on and the evening was a success.

The whole night was recorded from the mixing desk by Rich Munday and sounds tops so hopefully we can cut and stick some up on the player in the near future....

DO THIS PLEASE YOU LEG-ENDS

Join the facebook group so we can tell you fun things - like how much we loathe Razorlight, or just when our gigs are and how you can win a place on the guestlist.

Hello please,

We spent a bit of time recently recording some live tracks so we could work on them before we record a new CD. While we were there we thought....why not video them?

why not indeed and with the help of Alison Mee and Sam Flintham we did exactly that. We also decided to record Ten Again (cos we love it) so here it is in session all the way from our beloved shed...

WUUUURRRRD to all,

Anders here - having a day of looking out the window wondering when the flaming b'jesus there's been so much rain before in any given summer???  It's alright, we wouldn't have so many tree's to climb if it were o so dry.

ANYWAYS - in recent news.........

SO-waah
, we've been busy as usual, gigging like stink and enjoyably so....played a couple of London shows, most recently in the Mother Bar in Shoreditch last Saturday night where we turned up and got smashed on at 8:30.....after being told off for going on 3 minutes late we rocked the joint and it went down gert lovely. Then to the a cider festival at the Lanes in Bristol. Hell of a gig and fairplay to Zoe the organiser for making a great night for all.

COMING SOON - soon it will be coming..........

We spent a day drinking beers and recording a host of new tunes for your viewing, holding, caring for, playing to a girl and pretending it's your work (we know a lad who once did this AND it worked - heroic effort) and this stuff will be released most likely fortnightly/monthly to our myspace and youtube repetoire

look out we're on a mission now so we'll be bombarding you beauties with all manner of new tricks

I'm shit at these blogs but if you're gonna say sumthin you might as well say it properly huh??

To understand the title above, you probably need to know that as a band you get many many many in-jokes and stupid sayings. 'Festivals are shit' in our language means festivals are unbelievably epic, much in the same way Radiohead, Jessica Alba and Coco Pops are all shit.

Leopallooza and Fieldview are two growing festivals which words fail to really capture the joys of. There's just something magic you will never get at the big boys festivals. Couple that with the fact we got to stay in "the egg" (possibly the greatest van/house ever) at both of these events and you will understand why everything seems so shit to us at the moment.

Got a big one coming up in London on 29th August so git down there with us cos the pace is picking up on this train....

PEACE

THE MOTHERSHIT.
