Many things have forced Milwaukee, WI to national spotlight. Whether it be police or government cover-up & corruption, an alarming dropout rate in public schools, staggering joblessness & thus crime & senseless genocide; "Murder-Mil", or "Kil-Town" as it’s now referred to in street terms, seems to be screaming and bleeding for urgent help. "I’m from a city where you get played like a sport", says King Tone on Street Game. "We know for a fact Hip Hop culture can help save this city…", boldly states, Fidel, a well known youth worker. "Start the conversation right there! You know how many minds are molded and how much money or jobs are generated from hip hop?" He is so serious it almost seems sarcastic. Jump into the trenches of the frontline of the Milwaukee Hip Hop scene and you will more than likely bump into a troop of rebel rousers known as the Taste Emcees. Stay close enough to the collective of educators and producers long enough and you will realize they have their work cut out for them. They go from hosting events in Milwaukee and Chicago, to producing and promoting music with artists from across the globe, to organizing youth summits, then to providing multi media services that tie it all together. Currently on the calendar is "PowerMove", the latest of many from the Taste Emcees catalogue. The album is an honest, rugged and street-centric attempt to spread their consistent message of revolution and self determination. This is not a depart from the home base. King Tone insists "It’s like if Rza and Method Man from the Wu tang made an album together, we having fun dropping jewels, reppin’ the team." Those Jewels are the straight forward delivery & "gangsterish" beats giving evidence to the current political and racial intensity experienced in America today. However even in most of the Hip Hop coming from Milwaukee according to King Tone is "not reflecting our realities, its more like fantasy rap" which is cool he insists, "But there needs to be more balance." After years of working together, long freestyle sessions and some "brainstorming" as they call it, the two decided to record a militant minded double act project. "We’re really pushing our brand of "Healthy Hip Hop", we could do "crack-death rap" if we wanted to." Fidel says as they both laugh. PEEP THE HEAVY PROMO VIDEO FOR "BACK ON DAT!"Weighing the scales, (and not the triple beam!) "positive rap" (ie: Kanye beating 50 Cent in sales , Common getting endorsements left & right & yes even after T.I. went and got arrested) on a national scale, seems to be answering the public’s need for more from their music. And while certain media outlets, parents, teachers & politicians can scapegoat and generalize Hip Hop, artists Viva Fidel & King Tone have to represent and establish new such ideas as PowerMove to add to the conversation. With songs like "Street Game" and "Who’s Gangsta?" they ride the same bass heavy beats your favorite gun slingin’, drug sellin’, money throwin’, get 20 spins a day on the radio rapper would pay a nice piece of ice for. The production is courtesy of now retired , producer and engineer L.O.G.O.known for his work with Devin the Dude, Outlaws, Baby Drew, Pimpin Ken and host of independent midwest artists. From the sound Viva Fidel and King Tone’s "PowerMove" release, Taste Emcees are steadfast on the mission of using the culture of Hip Hop as an edutainment tool to inform and activate the people. Support that!

GPI Films To Release "Controlled Demo" – A New Mini-Musical Reality Movie & Soundtrack from Award Winning Independent Artist Viva Fidel. Viva Fidel announces..... Bonus Release DVD Takes Viewers on a Mental and Visual Journey Through Six Scenes From the Score Produced by Marlon "Solitaire" King & Viva Fidel. CONTROLLED DEMO Movie & Soundtrack Available on DVD , CD & Online on April , 29th 2008 -- On Tuesday, April 29th, 2008, GPI Films will release the original mini musical reality movie and soundtrack of the first installment of the new short series from Viva Fidel, Controlled Demo. It features a powerful score by Chicago based Producer Marlon "Solitaire" King, who is also the composer for each film in the three-chapter Controlled Demo saga. Controlled Demo, written, directed by and starring Viva Fidel, an independent music and film producer will also be playing at select screenings to be announced. DVD packaging created especially to accompany the CD release, the innovative 22-minute introduction features 6 brand-new music videos setup into a complete one day saga full of information & entertainment. Controlled Demo is a motivational concept labeled as a "mini musical reality movie" looking into the innovative & creative word of one individual but also lyrically explains and examines some current and crucial perspectives. Why is Hip Hop being taught in universities across the world? Why is Hip Hop used as the unifying force to mobilize youth and the political movements of our time? Has Hip Hop replaced religion? Featuring authentic footage of Fidel lecturing about Hip Hop & history at a local college, to an intimate car ride & conversation rap with his real life younger cousin Mahogany that questions beliefs about history, religion and everything in between, blended into to a captivating re-enactment of a remixed scene from the cult classic "The Spook that Sat Behind the Door" featuring well known theatre director & actor Andre Lee Ellis. Intimate uncut scenes from the stage and the studio take you into the passion behind
"Controlled Demo". The first episode from the series: Controlled Demo is a quick but thoughtful, lyrically narrated journey that is beautifully complimented by the sounds of Insomniac Studios producer and composer extraordinaire Marlon "Solitaire" King. The emotions of survival and social advancement are translated perfectly over the original musical score. The Controlled Demo movie production also has reunited a long time association with Digital Creations & Tony Williams, who is a highly sought after videographer and documentary producer. Williams filmed and edited the majority of Controlled Demo and is set to continue with scheduled production for upcoming Controlled Demo releases. Fidel or Viva Fidel won his first award for film making in 2006 for his biographical short film entitled "Fidel"(viva fidel on youtube!) at the New York International Film Festival. Fidel’s music delivery is branded and promoted as "Healthy Hip Hop", which provides outlets, platforms and discussion about real life issues. Information about the mini musical reality movie & soundtrack of Controlled Demo is soon to be featured at www.vivafidelonline.com. All rights reserved.

we connected through a mutual business asociate, Sol Cyrans Int. A chicago based promotions and management co. Never even met n person or talked on the phone just text and email. We have completed 6 songs and are scheduled to release our full length intercontenental hiphop album in 08. Its real music with a real message.. Cuturally our brothers and sisters want to reconnect over here and over there...I have learned that the people abroad generally are not fooled or bamboozzolled by mainstream exploitation and denegration of black people through mtv and bet. They realize that's entertainment or hollywood. Its only us blacks in america that are voluntarily educated and programmed by our open oppressors that buy into letting media dictate our social realities. (Grownfolks n particular) We have completed one promo video filmed n capetown and n milwaukee entitled "war drums" it is a colorful and connecting piece edited by Ife Olatunji. With footage live from afrika and amerikkka we are visually connecting the viewer with the motherland n a real way. We on some back to afrika !!!!!! N a real way!
Its the information age, all this one dimensional thinking amongst youth and hiphop industry afficianados has to be out promoted by media guerillas and "underground" heads with universal understanding and access. (it called the WORLD WIDE WEB NIGGAZ!)
We ve connected with artists from another continent , with no budget or label politics, its no reason we can't communicate locally work together nationally and build globally to get this revolution broadcasted. Its happening.
We work to orgainze and get our communities active in creating constructive change through hiphop and through youth advocay and education in everyday life...hopefully this video can inspire people from all walks of life to remeber how powerful hiphop can be and influence some of the big name artists to reconnect the audience to africa .

Yes world! We here! More hometown love from Ya' Heard for the Core DJ Familia, this month's V.I.P. guest is no stranger to the business. With over 25 years strong, he's still giving back and still looking forward. Homer Blow has something most people don't these days - REAL RESPECT!! In the industry, or "in da streets", the brother keeps it 100!? YHM: What is your key to longevity as a DJ or Radio Personality? HB: Well, me being a Program Director/On-Radio Personality, you have to love what you do and not just treat it like a hobby. Learn to reinvent yourself. Everything eventually changes with time. We are no exception to that rule. You have to adjust to the fact that you are only hurting your back by still trying to lug wax around. Can you say MP3's?? ?YHM: You have a very popular show on 860am in Milwaukee. Tell us the significance of that station and your show in particular. HB: It's a true Heritage Station, 100% Black owned and operated. I've been given an opportunity to try and reach thousands of listeners at one time. The show you're referring to is called "Keepin' It Real", which is a real concept to me, not just a catch phrase. Our people are shooting and killing each other out of anger. We can no longer continue to wait for other people to fix our problems. We have the means to correct it ourselves, and I've always been taught thousands of heads are better than one when trying to find the solution to a problem. YHM: What do you say to people who blame the DJ when fights happen and clubs get shut down? HB: The DJ is in charge of the atmosphere in the club. You "get crunk" when the crowd gets crunk. You "mellow out" when the crowd mellows out. If you have someone on Ecstacy or who started drinking before they got in the club, there's nothing you can do to prevent that besides alerting the security to keep a close eye on them. Like Jay-Z said being a popular DJ is a gift and a curse. It's a Catch 22.? YHM: Finish this sentence….. I remember when Hip-Hop… HB: …could be enjoyed for its fun and entertainment value. We didn't try to imitate it to the degree they do now.? ?YHM: Any word for your Core DJ Fam? HB: Continue to grind so the industry understands why the DJ is the Core to this game and we must be acknowledged and respected as such. Be sure to hit me up on MySpace http://www.myspace.com/homerblow I know, cheap plug. But hey, I'm a DJ! Plugging is my life!!! Every issue, Core DJs drop valuable information and serve as living proof that hip-hop will never die! The DJ gives the emcees a beat to ride to, the graff artists inspiration to do art, and they give the dancers a zone to call their own.

the short version..
"To know me is not to know me," says Fidel, who for this interview prefers to be referred to as Viva Fidel.
He's mastered the fine art of talking and not saying much at all. Some might find that to be a nuisance. Viva Fidel calls it a skill.
Either way, there's an alluring quality about the politically charged MC, who juggles a solo and group career with Taste Emcees. In a word, he's charming. The type of charm that forces one to lean in as he speaks, afraid to miss vital information.
Naturally, Fidel knows this. Before the interview, it's presumed that he's already set an agenda as to what message he'll propagate. This makes the act of interviewing him a cat-and-mouse game.
"I try not to say much in hopes that my actions show my character. I'm that type of person. I can talk, but it won't really go to say who I am. You have to look at what I do -- my actions -- for that."
And he's right. Tonight, Fidel is in the middle of an inner-city recording studio, putting the finishing touches on his untitled mixtape, hosted by DJ Willie Shakes. And that simple act of staying rooted in his community is better than any "message" the MC could say.
Choosing to work with inner-city studios as opposed to state-of-the-art facilities and opting to work with artists based on their skilsl as opposed to their images is the nature of Fidel.
He's heavily invested in the same 'hood that reared him, which adds another interesting facet to the MC.
Accessibility. He's something like "the people's rapper."
"I use my music as a vehicle to get to the next level. My music is supposed to take you somewhere, and I invite people to come with me through my music."
