A dramatic and eventful year has been had but roses are soon to be smelt. Mozzy Green has lost a member, had a break (literally) and soon will be coming back with a vengeance! Both myself (Ben) and Anna have been working on solo projects (myself – I have recorded an album called Avocado Chip’ which will be released on 360 soon) and Anna has been working with an amazing band called Underground Railroad ( http://www.myspace.com/urailroad ).

We had a great time at the festivals and especially enjoyed the main stage at Beautiful Days. Some new songs are starting to emerge and recording sessions are underway. We have two big shows planned for the remainder of the year (Luminaire, London -12 Oct / Odessa, Dublin – 21 Nov with Readers Wives).

We also feature in the current issue of Cent Magazine – http://www.centmagazine.co.uk/

We’ll keep you posted.

Look forward to seeing you soon.

Mozzy Green

Hatfield Forest’s Woodfest

IN April last year, in my first gig since moving to the area, I watched Mozzy Green play a short but brilliant set at the Rhodes Arts Complex in Bishop’s Stortford.

Some 18 months later, they still amaze. Their headline appearance at Hatfield Forest’s Woodfest on Saturday, watched by a good 100 or more, was the afternoon’s highlight.

Performing as a trio thanks to a guest appearance from Strangerhood drummer Ryan Thwaits, the experimental Stortford outfit were as mesmerising as ever and had most onlookers in reverent silence.

Falling somewhere between Radiohead, early Pink Floyd and the late Nick Drake, their songs are a mixed bag stylistically. Some would make snappy yet quirky hit singles, while others take time exploring different musical textures and taking listeners on a journey.

They’re all brilliant, though, and the duo – acoustic guitarist Ben Sommers and cellist Anna Scott – are accomplished and innovative players.

They write challenging and boundary-pushing music that still has mass appeal, which is no mean feat.

We have been booked to play the very prestigious 'In The City' festival in Manchester.

It's known as the UK equivalent to SXSW (texas) so it's quite exciting to be involved with it.

We will be performing our set at the Cellar Vie club on the 6th of October as part of 360 Degree Music. (more info on that to come!).

We have been chosen as a featured artist on the Diesel U Music site... the write up made us laugh a bit!

How many bands on the UK scene can honestly say that Minnie Driver has got there back? Thats right motherfuckers, Mozzy Green have got a press quote from the Driver. As if that wasn't enough, they've got the entire independent music press demanding their immediate signing, and rightly so.

Ben Sommers (abrasive guitar/vocal), Jacob Wheeler (abrasive drums) and Anna Scott (abrasive cello) produce sharp, off kilter folk music with fantastically titled songs such as 'The Smile of Sally Anne (and the devil in the diary)' and 'The Fantastical Lion that Went to Bang'. As this might suggest, there's something strange and thoughtful about Mozzy Green's output. The detail put into Sommers' lyrics manages to reward with each new listen. So next time you want to get wrecked at a caley, maybe have a cheeky epiphany, maybe spot a hollywood actress trying to blag hew way backstage, you could do worse than to look up Mozzy Green

Mozzy Green played a gig at the wonderful 93 Feet East in Londons Brick Lane a few weeks ago and the night was amazing. We were introduced to the stage by one of our heroes, Scroobious Pip (from Dan le Sac vs Scroobious Pip fame) after he performed a poem. It made us smile for days!

'Billy's Ghost' dances out of your stereo like some glorious, madcap carnival, carrying you into what can only be described as Mozzy World - and more power to it because this 4-song collection is a good place to go.

Mozzy Green sound like nothing else right now, but they've clearly got bags and bags of delicious influences plastered all over their bedroom walls. The Bowie-esque vocals are great, the musicianship is superb and the songs are a delight.

'Baby Stella' is a mellow cello affair, but beautiful, tender and touching for it.

Live track, 'The Icicle' isn't my favorite, but it could easily turn out to be yours; it's perfectly played, and the band's live credentials are left in no doubt.

'Blue Lullaby' grooves along like some prog-pop procession, effortlessly convincing me that all is well with today's music scene.

I await the album with unaccustomed eagerness!

Mozzy Green have won a unique competition to play at a new west-end theatre production.

The Fall & Rise Of Lenny Smallman, written and starring Richard Lumsden, tracks the travels and turbulence in the life of a struggling musician as he tries to follow in the footsteps of his heroes – including icon music and style icon David Bowie.

The final of the competition took place on 6th April, where Mozzy Green performed three tracks in front of the judging panel and were picked out as the winners from the 8 finalists.

Their prize is to the first six shows at the prestigious Arts Theatre, with guest spots during the production including the sold out press night.

Mozzy Green will be rush-releasing an E.P to co-incide with the performances, which take place from 22nd April to April 27th.

You can also see the band at many UK festivals this year including Blissfields, The Secret Garden Party, Standon Calling and the Stortford Music Festival www. mozzygreen. com

Widely known as a writer and an actor on stage, film and television, Richard Lumsden is currently appearing along side Catherine Tate in BBC2’s The Catherine Tate Show and is also known from Channel 4’s Sugar Rush, the BBC’s All About Me, Is It Legal?, Last of the Summer Wine, The Sharp End, The House That Jack Built.
