"Lights Out for the Territories" is the fourth album from 'dariustx', the solo project of composer Darius Holbert. A year in the making, this record runs from southern singer-songwriter, to Irish reel, to dirty swamp funk, and shows off Darius' wide range of influences and talents. Regardless if you're new to dtx, or have been with him the whole way, he has clearly hit his stride with "Lights Out", and this record is not to be missed.

So, I've been selling a bunch of records overseas recently. Places like Greece and Japan love the dtx sound apparently.

So, why not capitalize on this good fortune, I say?

We're planning tours of Asia and Europe in 2009 and we need your help.

Round and Shiny: There's Meat on Them Bones

Far be it for us to tell you what to stuff into your loved ones' Christmas stockings, Chanukah satchels or Kwanzaa cubbyholes, but music is always in good taste – and we've heard some killer CDs lately. You remember CDs, right?

Keyboard-bashing troubadour Darius Holbert, aka Dariustx, was born in Dallas but currently makes his home in La-La Land. We first heard what someone else called his "Southern piano-driven brokedown junk" when a friend played us the sparkling "Wives of the Circle 5," a song with a chorus so gobsmackingly good that it stayed in our heads for days at a time. On his new disc, The Revelator and the Twilight (82music), Darius and his trio continue to hit the sweet spot with a sonic sauce that suggests equal parts Ben Folds, Billy Joel, Randy Newman and The Allman Brothers, some very tangy lyrics, and inspired musicianship.

Hiya peeps!
I jumped on a bill for this saturday to test some of my new dtx junk acoustic-like. I'll be playing solo for the 1st time live, well, pretty much ever. Except for all those juries and piano recitals in college, but that was for snooty profs, not for you.
I'll just be playing piano and guitar solo at this new spot in Culver City. There will be other solo acts on the bill, along with some comics I think. And I might call up a special guest or two to help me out.
