December 21, 2009 - Monday
the yardbird is in the oven
and the fires are roaring
inside and out

all has been calm
and somewhat bright around here

kids out of school
for winter break

spent the day trudging through
the creek with my youngest
and riding skateboards with
my oldest

took a large hill together
seated on a long board
like the luge...

love doing things with the kids
that I used to do when I was
little...allows me to get lost
for a little while

althought I never skateboarded
until I was 35

when I was little we lived
out in the sticks and gravel...
skateboarding was out

missouri was an absolute
treat this last time out

first few passes through
we didn't draw very many

all of the crowds were at least
doubled this last time

good fun had by all

time to settle in over the break
and put the finishing thoughts
on the new album
which will be called:
'zero dark thirty'

love and luck
over the holidays

December 8, 2009 - Tuesday
two years ago today
my oldest daughter
was diagnosed with a neuroblastoma
tumor

cancer...

turned out it was actually
a ganglioneuroma
which starts out cancer and
grows benign

waiting for the biopsy
for three days
was hell

the good doctor letton
at children's hospital in okc
removed the canteloupe sized
tumor and marleigh has been
fine since

so...
a one millionth thank you
to doctor bob letton

six hours of carving
that thing out of my
kiddo

I can never thank dr. bob enough

all is peaceful here tonight
and I've got the first fire
of the year rolling in the fireplace

I stepped outside for
more wood and caught
that smoke smell in the cold

I love that

loading up the van o' hootenannies
and heading down to ft. worth
tomorrow for an acoustic show
at woody's

come on out
and yell at me

December 6, 2009 - Sunday
mama's doing laundry
I'm painting an album title on the brick
walls in the basement
with black spray paint and stencils...

mayme is singing and painting
a monster on the door
in the basement

marleigh is upstairs
getting some grubby
painting clothes on

these are the days

belly full of chicken ( free range/non caged ),
mushroom ragout and green beans

all this and I can cook too

I asked my wife how she got
so lucky...
she didn't know

home for the weekend

strange for me
but I'm enjoying it

ac/dc on the stereo

I gotta paint...

December 2, 2009 - Wednesday
I have come to the conclusion
that 2 weeks straight of riding
across country in a van, inclined
and watching movies on a laptop,
has led to the atrophy of my muscles...

so two days ago I joined
the local gym

I can barely move

my tits hurt

I can't bend over
without moaning like
a septuagenarian

so this must be progress

my wife informed me that I should
get a HEAVY laptop so I could
get at least some excercise
when I lifted it off of my gut
to go to the bathroom...

did I mention my tits hurt?

I mentioned that to my wife
and she concluded that I might need
a sports bra if I was going
to continue this working out business

she's a funny one

and once again I'm at the very
bottom of workout hill...

and it's a LONG way to the top

my tits...

they hurt

November 30, 2009 - Monday
There is nothing strange about fear: no matter in what guise it presents itself it is something with which we are all so familiar that when a man appears who is without it we are at once enslaved by him.
