East Coast punk rock’n’roll with emphasis on the rock and sounding a little more Midwestern from time to time, at least according to my internal geographic spectrometer. Then again, sometimes they go so far off the East Coast they almost resurface as British punk. Big nasty guitars work their way up and down three chord progressions with a plodding fatalism then toss out occasional riffy solos like cigarette butts onto dry highway berms. I hate always having to figure out what other band a given band reminds me of, but they do seem infected with the same bacteria as Throwrag, "I, Meat" has a certain New Bomb Turkishness, and "Next Life" has a New York Dolls aftertaste. At first I listened to this CD and liked it, but nothing really stuck out. With repeated listens it really starts to differentiate and distinguish itself, making my initially polite kudos turn earnest. - Ben

SPITZZ
"Touché Pussycats"
CD released by: No Front Teeth

I really like this record! Spitzz play punk rock with equal amounts of influences from 1977's Britain and the more modern SoCal sound a la The Pushers or The Stitches. There's whole bunch of great tunes on this release from No Front Teeth Records but the ones that really stick out are the rockin' "Chloroform Fun" and the cool laid-back track "Human Being". I also really like "Taco Bell's Cannon" which sounds like a mix of the mid 80's Ramones and Shock Nagasaki. I'm not sure if these guys have put out anything else but I'm sure gonna look it up!

Touché pussycats

This is the 3nd full length lp/cd by Spittzz "Touche Pyussycats.

Chloroform fun  (song one side one) Blew me away.  It was like listening to something from the 80's mixed with a bit of the 90's attitude and a bit of the 00's need for good rocking  music.  These guys are just straight up  punk rock with the emphasis on the rock.  The do it well; they do it fast. Maybe they do it a little dirty and most likely cheap.  Don't shake their hands, because you know where it's been, and its dirty and fun!

If I haven't said it yet these guys really do rock.  The have great catchy choruses, quick and fast guitar solos, and vocals you will sing along with.

This new album was co-produced by the band (whole band) New bomb terks; who came out of retirement for their CD relase party in augest 2006.

Buy their album, listen to it, wear it, eat it, it wont matter it will be good any way you use it.

Touché Pussycats
12 song-CD
What I raved about in my review of Spitzz's first disc holds just as true, if not truer, now.  Back then, I name-dropped Hellacopters and Gluecifer, which never ceases to make me happy, so I'll just do it again.  If there's a difference between the two albums, I'd say that this leans closer to the punk side of the punk-rock equation, but it's a matter of attitude, not stylistic quibbling.  There isn't a song here that clocks in at over three minutes, because they all get the job done before then.  I wouldn't mind if the band changed its name to something less, um, Spitzz-y, but spit is just what the music does here, spit and snarl and shout anthemically and rip guitar solos and generally raise a joyful ruckus that has roots sunk in the '50s and branches slapping you in the face.  They don't reinvent the wheel, but they hitch it to a nitro-snortin' blown engine and paint it with black primer and teach the locals that fancy pinstripes don't make you go faster.  Highly recommended.   (Tim Emswiler

Spitzz - Touche Pussycat
www.spitzz.com

This is Spitzz, from Boston, not The Spits, from wherever they're from.  They play catchy, snotty, punk rock with plenty of venom and spit.  Their lyrics display a complete irreverence for anything and everything, from The Louvre to Taco Bell, and from the Catholic Church to chloroform poisoning. "Touche Pussycat" is 12 songs, 29 minutes, non-stop head boppin', toe tappin', fist pumpin' fun.  But you probably don't want to listen to it with your Mom.  I hear a bit of Teengenerate in the intensity of the guitar attack, and a combination of David Johanson and Warren Zevon in the vocals of frontman Tom.  This is one of those rare ocassions where a band impresses me with their live show, and then the CD is even better.

Spitzz
[img] Last May I posted on one of my favorite local bands Spitzz. They have a new record out and it's fantastic. "Touche' Pussycats" was released a few weeks back and I have one copy of the vinyl to give to a Strange Reaction visitor. The last time I gave anything away went quite well, so I'm doing this the same way. The 7th email I get requesting the record will get it, I'll be mailing it out this week. Please only email if you want the VINYL, this is not a cd. To get your own [...]

Suburban Voice

SPITZZ-Touché Pussycats (Tario, CD)
For all the heavy rep Boston has as a garage rock-friendly town, there have only been a few bands that really live up to it and the Spitzz have emerged as one of those bands. They follow the simple is better method, drawing on various punk, rock and garage influences, unafraid to borrow on occasion—such as the "Nervous Breakdown" cop for "Channel One." "Touché Pussycat" is the band's second album and continues the level of quality from their debut, "Sick Savage and Sensual." Confident and fired-up. (53 Beacon St., #3, Somerville, MA 02143,

From No Brains Zine

Spitzz are from Somervile (MA). "Touche Pussycats" contains 12 a bit old fashioned punk tunes - in early 80s US pre hardcore style. Vocal is between Johnny Rotten and Jello Biafra, only Spitzz are more rockin' and rollin' than Dead Kennedys. Good songs, pretty different with good riffs, only production doesn't give the energy that Spitzz probably have live. Giutars are too buzzy, and that's pitty. Drums are too behind and sound is too unclear. But Spitzz are drfinitely worth checking out and I hope they'll have a better sound on their next album.

Lowcut (Some Euro zine)

They didn't like it and "insulted' us by saying ....If you dig: Eddie & the Hodrods etc...  that's awesome Eddie and the Hotrods are great..the guy got in a snit because we sent a letter that said "P.S you're a homo" Maybe it set something off inside him.
