Dear Reader,

We invite you to comment below on amusing ideas and dandy proposals for future (that neverwas) events that you feel the League of Cincinnati Steampunks should organize. There are already a few ideas brewing in our teapots and we welcome you to comment and make suggestions.

Following the success of May 9th's picnic there has been talk of having another such gathering at Loveland Castle, this time with an Alice in Wonderland unbirthday theme. Also there is the notion of a Maker's Workshop on May 30th at the Kennedy Heights Art Center; details will follow. An outing to the Dock on a Darkotica night; a crowd of Steampunks dancing with the goths and vampires. And so forth.

Please share your thoughts and ideas of the nature of events you would like to see the League being a part of . . .

Sincerely, LoCS

On Saturday, May 9, MMIX, the League of Cincinnati Steampunks will convene at Loveland Castle around noon to enjoy a fine picnic, fine company, and other fine delights. All who find themselves loosed from the moorings of time are welcome to join us, just bring your own hamper!

Once more the League met. They had returned to one of the places in which it all began, Arnold's. Dr. Zedekosh recorded the intriguing events of the evening in his wonderful leatherbound journal. Only he can truly explain the bizzare and unearthly sights that were seen upstairs at Arnold's.

Dear Ladies and Gentlemen,

Could anyone confirm or deny the existance of the so called Queen City Floating Market? Could anyone shed light on this rumour of a gathering of fringe groups, misfits, underground types, and so forth who appariently meet up in random places to trade junk for junk and get drunk? If such a gathering were indeed to exist, the League of Cincinnati Steampunks would certainly like to attend, that is if it exists. And if it does not exist, should we make it a reality in the world of the sub-real?

Ladies and Gentlemen,

Last night, Friday the third of April twenty o nine, the adventurers and scallywags of the League met once more to share tales of weirdness and plot expeditions of the strange. Regulars Dr. Zedekosh, Sir Rev StaticGuy, Alethea, Blakrose, and Aloysius were joined by Nordic Love God and his lady friend, and Procyonidae (a true tinker). The conversations bounded from topic to topic, including plots and schemes on how the “critical mass” of Cincinnati’s Weird & Wonderful seemed to be coming together on the North Side. Procyonidae had many insights to offer with regards to all the Queen City Bohemians doing their own things here and there, but not necessarily doing them all together. How delightful would it be if all the freaks amassed and forever altered the cultural landscape of this Midwest city?

The League continues it mission to unite and form alliances with many of the Underground misfits out there. Meanwhile it was confirmed that our next rendezvous would be Friday the first of May, at eight o’clock at Arnold’s (210 E 8th St), the oldest tavern in Cincinnati, established in 1861; we will have a room booked upstairs, so no concerns regarding finding tables. Also, May promises to provide the Poet’s Picnic on the afternoon of Saturday the sixteenth; blankets, baskets, games, libation, poetry, and tasteful decadence. All these events are open to any who feel the urge to partake in antiquated oddities.

As the Cincinnati Steampunk scene gradually grows, one begins to ponder how many other neo-Victorian and quasi-Edwardian bohemians are out there? Fractured and divided, one is certain that spread across the city there are many fine ladies and gentlemen of the vaudevillian and burlesque persuasion. The Cloven Hoof Theatre came (is it still here?), and the Shadowbox sort of (no not at all); surely there are belly dancers, fire eaters, musicians, comics, jugglers, follies, and such out there doing their thing, but not in a critical mass. The League of Cincinnati Steampunks is on a constant mission to unite various fringe and underworld bohemian elements in the Queen City; the BIG PLAN is to one day turn the Southgate House into a neo-Moulin Rouge with all sorts of vaudevillian bohemian fun, if only for one night. So, dear Reader, if you want to join the Queen City Bohemian Movement, leave a comment and suggest candidates for this burlesque union of decadent fools.

Dear Reader,

On the evening of Friday, March 13, Twenty O Nine, the League of Cincinnati Steampunks further sealed their alliance with the Hellions of the infamous Cincinnati zine "Hell in a Handbasket." Aloysius and Alethea attended the Hellion sponsored evening of libation and karaoke at the H&H tavern in Deer Park. The Hellions and the League have much in common and this seems like the beginning of a beautiful friendship. The fact that the March issue of "Hell in a Handbasket" features a very flattering article on the League of Cincinnati Steampunks just sweetens the union even further. There were several Hellions there who have expressed strong interest in attending the April gathering of Steampunks at Highland, and after some members of the Queen City underground read the wonderful article we may have a few more time travelers and airship pirates piloting their vessels to our humble meet up.

Current mood:  inquisitive

Dear Reader,

It has been confirmed that the next meeting of the League of Cincinnati Steampunks will be held on Friday, April 3, Twenty O Nine at eight o’clock at Highland Coffee near the University of Cincinnati. It is the month of May, however, that is up for debate and we invite you dear Reader to provide your gracious opinion with a comment below. Which is a better venue for the League? Highland Coffee or Arnold’s? The argument to return to Arnold’s focuses mainly on the fact that we would be able to book a room upstairs and therefore not worry about seating which is an issue at Highland. The converse argument for Highland is that it is easier to park there and that parking on Fourth Street (Arnold’s) can prove challenging. Both establishments have fine ambiance and atmosphere conducive to steampunk sensibilities, both have good menus, but obviously there are differences. Please, dear Reader, share your opinion below.

Dear Reader, prepare yourself for a short tale of mild anguish and vague disappointment. It was the night of Friday, March 6, Twenty O Nine, the day that winter seemed to let go its icy grip on the Queen City and give over the city to warmer winds. The League had planned to meet at their adopted home of Highland Coffee near the university, but moderate disaster struck when the forces of the Mundane or the throngs of the Slightly More Interesting  (Bockfest and Watchmen) worked their insidious powers to steer agents of the League astray. The plot was unforeseen and deductions from previous meetings gave the faint promise of an even greater attendance. Alas, the only agents of the League able to appear at Highland Coffee were Dr. Zedekosh, Alethea, and Aloysius. The intrepid trio kept a brave face and a stiff upper lip as they engaged in witty banter and speculated what awful fates may have befallen their comrades in style. Amongst the topics of conversation were suggestions that the League move back to Arnold’s, the proposed formation of a steampunk music band, Hell in a Handbasket, and what exactly are the basic rules of dominoes? The League will meet again on Friday, April 3, Twenty O Nine, and a number of League members have already confirmed their attendance, but it has yet to be determined as to whether this will be once more at Highland or Arnold’s. Perhaps dear Reader, you might be so kind as to share your thoughts with a gracious comment.
