Wow.... I hate to say this, but if you are a regular and you missed the show last night, you really missed out.

We definitely put the high brow in low brow art at PEEPSHOW MENAGERIE: THE ROAD TO BURLESQUE! And the previous month you also brought it big to PEEPSHOW MENAGERIE: FAMOUS MONSTERGIRLS OF BURLESQUE. You humble us by coming out and bringing that kind of energy each month and I can only hope you feel the same way about our shows.

Last night, we had a very modern take on Opera and Caberet with the amazing band DIME MUSEUM and then an honest-to-goodness BURLESQUE PLAY that flowed smoothly! No "host segments." Rather the burlesque performers were brought out in between ACTING segments that were HILARIOUS!

"NIIIIIIIiiiiAGRA FALLLLLS!!!

If you were there, you know what that line is about.

We have to give big kudos to Patrick The Bankrobber who wrote and directed it and Rex The Impossible for coming up with the theme as well as both of them starring along with the lovely Angie Cakes!

Thank you all for making tonight another great night! Every burlesque act KILLED!

And the audience...AMAZING!

Extra thanks go to Paul, Funny Eddie, Lili Von Schtupp, Tim on sound, the staff of Bordello, Ava (even though in the end they weren't allowed to shoot the german television at Bordello due to permit issues), and if you were there as an audience member or burlesque performer... YOU!

Patrick and Rex will be at it again in February with our show called "Watching The Detectives" where we bring the world's most famous detectives to life...and half naked on stage!

In the meantime we are happy to announce our NEXT show which takes place next month on Wednesday December 16th and it's the return of TELEVANGELESQUE!: The Fire & Brimstone Burlesque Revival!

This will be another charity show for the inner city arts program that teaches full arts classes for children in Skid Row. With the economy the way it is with cuts in art programs always looming, every dollar they make is very appreciated and we were lucky enough to raise over $800 dollars for them last year.

So watch out for details really soon and thank you all so much again for supporting burlesque and trusting us to bring you another fan and crazy show!

You know I haven't really kept up the myspace ste as much this month as we have been setting up the facebook profile (which you can find at: http://www.facebook.com/peepshowburlesque.) Before I tell you about the big show TOMORROW, I want to thank all of the amazing burlesque teachers and their star students who performed in the last show. The crowd was lighter than usual, but still very appreciative and it was another great show.

Ok so what's coming up TOMORROW NIGHT?...

Written by performance artist Chuckles on Facebook:

"Good gravy! The David Lynch burlesque show was terrific. I was expecting to be intrigued…but I was also delightfully entertained and even a little creeped out!…perfect. I wish I’d have wrangled more fans to come…be sure to go next year!

A quick description of the acts…

A glamorized version of the lady in the radiator…a white mask with sparkly cheeks attached…she had the cute sideways steps and hand clutching, then she burst into “Cheek to Cheek”, stripped down to gauze and produced scissors…and she’s the adorable little baby…!(Oh..you are sick….) and she cut through her bindings to release red gore with a giggly little smile.

John Merrick danced “The Baby Elephant Walk” in a nicely choreographed number with a cane and pull away pants. Laura Palmer came to life from her plastic wrapping and danced in her bedroom with hot teenage underwear and ‘secret red button touching’, and she showed us what was written in her diary. Audrey Horne danced at One Eyed Jacks, wearing the outfit her dad caught her in—white with little red bows replete with white cat mask. “David Lynch” hosted, told terrific hammy jokes about dancing mice, gave the weather report, served donuts, and peppered the night with trivia about his films. A running joke went through the night about “The Straight Story” number not being ready yet..”I’m almost there! Not there yet!” yelled from somewhere in the club. The Bordello—such a perfect Lynchian Black Lodge spot!…red lighting, parlour seating, and the rounded red curtain, repaired in time for the show. For “Lost Highway” Scarlett Letter went from black robe and long brown hair to white wig and white negligee, to no wig and not much else. A dancer did a perfect Lulu-Peanut rock-n-roll Laura Dern rapid hair flipping!!!…rock and roll stripper outfit, heels, tights, belts,…which morphed into “Be-bop-a lula!” and then back to metal. A spectacular Ben tribute…”In Dreams” lip synched into the old microphone followed by a gorgeous green and black sparkling corseted caped swirling peacock feathered beauty ending with a guzzling of a tall PBR, foam flowing down her chest. “Alvin” finally arrived with his glittery John Deere lawnmower recreation and did a wonderful dance and striptease out of her coveralls…used the ‘grabber’ to pick them up, and sucked on a ‘wiener’. (“I..hate..Braunschweiger
...”)

I never saw “On the Air”..but there was a funny tribute to the failed series…a girl answers an iron and tells us she wishes her mom could come iron for us all, then she did a swell strange dance wrapping a blindfold around her part of the time…it was nice, many of the dancers used Badalamenti music or other Lynch songs.....the most chill inducing was Llorando…dressed all in red…roses and rose petals coming from everywhere…a masked man holding a box in the back…gorgeous, inspired and sinister…and a lovely disappearance behind velvet at the finale…..and the final dance, if I didn’t forget any………….two polish prostitutes smile slowly and lift their tops for each other while smoking and drinking in nothing but light from two flashlights…”Ghost of Love” is playing….which switches into “Locomotion” and they immediately move into synchronized dancing, then the music switches back again, and they’re moving like Lynch nymphettes…high, dreamy, surreal..then switching back again, and forth. From the back of the stage the ironing commences….by a Rabbit in a house dress. The prostitutes keep dancing, and eventually the rabbit masked girl comes forwards and joins in a slow striptease over a pink velvet ottoman….and the end she opens the top of the ottoman and takes out a live black and white rabbit and hold him up, then dances with him.

What a swell evening…Aaron Sterling joined me for the last half…(Maybe in next year’s he’ll make Shelley dance for him as Leo Johnson…”Shelley!!..where’..s my blue shirt!!?” … a favorite line of his to repeat if he’s just been watching Twin Peaks)….an old boogie boarding acquaintance said ‘hi’ to me, and I met Johnny Peacock and Scandalous.

Can’t wait ‘til the next one…there are so many possibilities."

Our friend and performer Lili VonSchtupp is very sick and is not able to perform her Blue Velvet routine tonight. She was still wanting to do it and we know she'd be amazing but we care about her and want her to get some rest and she is ALWAYS invited to do our show anytime in the future. SO we are VERY lucky to happen to have another friend in the scene who we didn't know until a couple weeks ago ALREADY HAS a Blue Velvet routine! We are very happy to announce that Charlotte La Bell Araigne'e will be performing with us this evening. She's one of our favorite performers and we are very happy that she is joining us for this very special evening! So PLEASE join us tonight for an amazing night of burlesque and celebrate our 1 year anniversary with us! ~ Scarlett Letter & Chris Beyond producers, peepshow menagerie http://www.peepshowmenagerie.com

Hey Friends and Fans!

Well it's been just over a week since the last show and I have to say we really knocked that one out of the park. Great performers, great concept, and a great crowd! I THINK that may have come close to the amount of people we got at the BURLESQUELAND (Disney themed) show we did in January!

I want to thank Patrick The Bankrobber for being an amazing host and writer, yet again! All of our burlesque performers, many of whom debuted new acts for the particular 'medical' theme. More thanks to THE ART OF BLEEDING for a great performance (I can never get enough of RT The Teacher Robot and Abram The Safety Ape, not to mention Dr. Moody!), the staff at Bordello as well as Tim The Soundguy (not to be confused with Tim The Sorcerer, although they both can work some magic), and a great big THANK YOU  to my co-producer Scarlett Letter who is finally back from her burlesque tour or Europe! Although she ended up not performing burlesque onstage, it was great seeing her as Nurse Rachett!

So I got the pictures a little early from photographer Markus Alias, so I went ahead and put up photos on the website from the MERRIE MALADIES show over at: http://www.peepshowmenagerie.com/0709show.htm. Here's a few previews now:

(click on each image to see a larger version)

The only real hiccup we had at the show was that there was a bachelor/bachelorette party who reserved seats with the club, but arrived late, being wrongly informed that the show didn't start til 11pm. I felt really bad for them, but there wasn't anything I could do because all of our advertising materials say what time to get there. We even held the show an extra 15 minutes as we saw they were late. (Will we EVER start the show at 9:45? Maybe the next show?) A word to the wise - When we say Doors open at 9pm, we mean it. Seting is limited so if you want to get a good seat, the earlier you arrive, the better. We had people lining up this time before the doors opened so people are figuing it out. Still it was a minor issue during a great show! Everyone did a wonderful job and thank YOU for coming to the show (if you did, indeed, come to the show)!

So that was the past, now let's look into the future... Our next show is on Wednesday, August 19th and it is our ONE YEAR ANNIVERSARY SHOW! And how are we choosing to celebrate it? By putting on a tribute to one of the greatest and strangest directors of our generation, David Lynch; the director of such films as DUNE, ERASERHEAD, BLUE VELVET, TWIN PEAKS, and many more...and we will be having acts that are inspired by EACH one of his films! Don't believe me? Here's the official poster!

(click on the poster to watch for details on the show and performer bios as they come.)

You don't have to be a fan of David Lynch to enjoy the show...because in the end we will still have some of the most talented burlesque performers on stage as we always do and the one thing you can count on in any David Lynch film, whether you are a fan or not, is that he always has great music. So please join us in this special show and help us celebrate our one year anniversary right!

Hey everyone!

I have to say that our last show PEEPSHOW MENAGERIE: BEACH BLANKET BURLESQUE! was one of our most ambitious shows yet and it was physically and emotionally demanding, but it was definitely worth it when that curtain went up (oh, wait...the curtain wasn't working that night) and the show started!

First off I have to thank our guest co-producer that night, Miss Red Snapper. Without her filling in for Scarlett (while she was away in Europe), I would have been a tad more insane than I was that night. She's a great producer, performer, and friend and she has my highest respect.

Secondly I have to thank our amazing hosts Mr. Snapper and Patrick The Bankrobber who probably brought us our best host work yet with their portrayal of beach bum Frankie and the Evil Land Baron. Extra kudos to Patrick who wrote a great 12 page script for the show and he and Mr. Snapper went through it perfectly. That's what happens when you get professional theater people in the show - you get great performances.

I can't walk away from this e-mail without thanking our great burlesque performers and go-going pick-up artists. Every one of you did a great job even with the slightly different show format. We also had a lot of newcomers in this particular show and I have to give huge kudos to the Striptease Symposium burlesque school for helping to bring us this new wave of talent. We look forward to showcasing each of you more in future shows!

My 2nd to last thank you goes to the person who LITERALLY saved the show! We had our first technical difficulty in all our 11 months of doing the show and if it wasn't for her, we would have had to start much later. Miss Olivia D'Hellion THANK YOU for letting us use your computer when we had a music issue!

My final thank you? To the amazing audience! Not only did you forgive us right off the bat for being 15 minutes late, but you were a great audience all throughout the show! We hope each of you comes back and party with us each month...like at our next show for example... ;)

Our next show? Well it's just around the corner!

Hope to see you all there!

Sincerely,

Chris Beyond

Just finished hashing out the storyline for tomorrow's show. What we are going to be attempting to do has not been done in a burlesque show in a long time in L.A..

It is going to be amazing...or it's going to be the biggest burlesque trainwreck in west coast burlesque history.

Either way, you want to be there to witness it! ;D
