Following the release of their sophomore full-length album, Class Wars: K-12, local quartet DAS LLAMAS has decided to take an indefinite break so that its members may pursue other life interests. The band's last scheduled show is at the Cha Cha Lounge on July 25 as part of the Capitol Hill Block Party (time TBA).

Frontman Kerry Zettel will continue work with his band See Me River, whose new album, Time Machine, is due to drop on August 26 via Aviation Records & Don't Stop Believin' Records. See Me River will appear on the Cha Cha Block Party stage as well, on July 26. They will also perform THIS FRIDAY, July 11 at the Mars Bar.

Das Llamas evolved out of singer/bassist/keyboardist Zettel's collaboration with guitarist/keyboardist Shawn Kock, beginning in 1999. The duo teamed up with Pretty Girls Make Graves' Nick DeWitt and Nathan Johnson to form Beehive Vault, and from that band's quickly-produced ashes arose stabmasterarson. Named for Chris Rock's character in CB4, this incarnation of Zettel and Kock's project saw the release of two EPs and, at the departure of their original drummer and the addition of Thomas Burke behind the kit, would eventually become Das Llamas. Aaron Everett joined the trio in early 2007 and the band recorded its first album.

That debut, World War, was released last summer on Aviation Records (Zettel's label with Steve King), and the band toured through a handful of U.S. jaunts. The past year has seen the band in the studio with DeWitt producing, at work on the latest album, available now on Aviation.

Aviation Records was founded in February of 2007 by Zettel and King. Their inaugural year welcomed releases from Das Llamas and See Me River, along with 2021: An Aviation Records Compilation, which served as a time capsule of the year's best local music, featuring Fleet Foxes, Grand Archives, Cave Singers, Triumph of Lethargy and Feral Children. Following the release of See Me River's second disc, Aviation Records will release WEIRDLORDS' Zizlore's Mansion, as well as the debut full-length from Spokane's KAYLEE COLE.

On a personal note: Das Llamas was one of the very first (and most beloved) bands on the WigPR roster, and the gap they leave in it is already being felt. If you're feeling nostalgic, here's some lovely reading material:

OK. I'm just gonna start this off with an apology to anyone that we told about the EP that was supposed to be released last November. We tried to record the drums in a GIGANTIC auditorium and they came out sounding like jawbreakers in a wooden drier. Needles to say, we scrapped the recording and decided to start anew. On the upside, instead of two EPs released just months from each other, you're gonna get one face melting album all at the same time. On the downside, there is no downside.
We've got plans to record with These Arm's Are Snakes drummer Chris Commons in the engineering room. He's worked on a ton of stuff and we have mad faith in him. With any luck (for real people, we massively rely on luck) this CD will be afloat by spring 08'.
THANK YOU FOR YOU MASSIVE CONTINUING SUPPORT. We will keep it up as long as you want it up.
XOXO,
Das Llamas

We're going back into the studio this week to record a bunch of new stuff. Chris Beam is heading up the project and Mike Epting is on board as well. We all got drunk and "discussed" what was what last night and it looks like it's gonna fn' rule. We understand that it's been a while but it's well worth the wait. Stay tuned. XOXO Das Llamas
