Frohe Weihnachten 1980 as I remember it………..

Back home living in an old German cottage far out in the German country side,
fetching milk directly from the farmer next door kind of thing, I had a x-mas wish!
I can't remember x-mas back in the 70's that well except for only being interested in chocolate,
smearing it all over my face. When I was a baby it must have been difficult to tell what it was I was covered in.

Anyway, 1980 I was 10 years old living with my brother and 2 sisters, when I discovered ACDC. I think it was the "Highway to hell" Album I listened to on the radio.

Those days albums were still something very special and we used to play these LP's on tiny suitcase looking record players. The lid you took off was the (mono) speaker. Mine was red! Couldn't chose those days.
ACDC's "Back in Black" album got released summer 1980 so all I wanted for x-mas was this fucking album and my first album ever! Remember that feeling?

By xmas I already had the ACDC logo painted onto the wall in my room. I covered it with an "ABBA" poster or some pony picture but can't remember. This x-mas was important to me! I need that spooky music right now!

Family x-mas in front of an open fireplace smells of cinnamon, Glühwein (Gløg) and the occasional bomb cake my mother used to make. You could kill somebody with that thing if it stayed in the oven too long!
Granddad and grandma sitting enjoying a glass of champagne to keep the blood going and my parents in stress cause the turkey was to big for the oven again.

By the time the champagne was emptied, the starters eaten, the main course choked down, the desert was at least a little bit exciting. You poured this bottle of rum over an english x-mas pudding and lit it! Besides the flashing fire and puddles of unburnt rum around the pudding, it was a break that made time go faster. Thinking back I'm not sure if it was the hidden coin in the pudding or the rum that made time go faster.

Today we don't have the pudding anymore but the spirit stays……and we don't burn it!

It's about 1000 o'clock and we start opening our presents. One by one in ....Germany..... Ordnung muss sein!. Granddad taking care of the wrapping paper, putting it all neatly together, grandma sipping some more fat off the pan so she can handle another champagne. The rest of us are all crazy, tired and probably drunk too.

But then I open the present containing nothing more or less than ACDC "Back in Black"! It was such a great feeling and my joy and happiness caught my fathers attention who played the record on to the "HOUSE" stereo! Not the little suitcase thing with one mono speaker. The "HOUSE" record player was HIFI stereo, Dolby and speakers taller than me. So dad gave it the full hammer. "You got me ringing Hell's Bells". It was loud! Can't remember what happened to my grandparents that evening but I think it was the night I found out my grandma was wearing a wig.

I didn't know that I would be so lucky to receive an even more valuable and treasuring present xmas 1998. My daughter Lilo was born 24.12.1998 at about 11:30. If I still had my suitcase record player back then, you bet I would have played the "Back In Black" Album during birth!

I wish you all a true peaceful "Rock'n Roll" xmas. The little things count and I believe we're all making a great effort.

Biography

Oliver is a singer/songwriter that has worked in Germany, Norway and Japan resulting in a moderate release in Japan 1996 and another one in Norway in 2001. Early 2008 an album in Denmark and September 2008 an international solo Album will be released starting in Denmark featuring Tommy Aldridge (known from Ozzy Osbourne/Whitesnake) and bassist Marco Mendoza (known from Whitesnake/ThinLizzy).

He started singing in bands in 1983 (actually with Peter Maffay's guitarist Peter Keller) and has been part of the action ever since. He's a "front man" that's been playing rock/blues/funk and progressive metal from small clubs to big festivals. ....

His voice was trained for 7 years by a Hungarian opera singer in Germany while he was engaged as a hard-rock vocalist doing competitions, recordings and touring through-out Germany and Europe. ....

He then found more interest in the Norwegian rock scene and their quality of musicians inspired him very much. After Japan not resulting in the big break through, the band members started to go in different musical directions. ....

Shortly after becoming a father he thought of actually enjoying music on a little more relaxed state and started in a blues band: (www.nobodysbusiness.no) who tour extensively every year. This also resulted in the album: "Blue Shoe" of which he's proud. It might be a bit musically different than his first release but it was still an enjoyable project that lasted until early 2007. ....

Living in Denmark since 2000 and stopping with Nobody's Business (Norway) early 2007, he wanted to try to get together with people that know their instruments, love creating music, enjoy performing and who work with an aim. He's more than happy to have met Ripe (www.myspace.com/weareriperocks) and is happy to part of a good old 80's style metal band ala Iron Maiden, DIO. The first album was recorded early 2008 and is now waiting to be released. But it's already available here: ripe@mwp.dk....

January 2008 Oliver joined the Danish X-Factor TV show and was profiled a lot during the audition rounds and the finals. Oliver joined the show to make contacts to the Danish music business. Coming from outside of Denmark he thought this is a fast way to build contacts. He was rejected just before the X-factor live shows for reasons the audience still has no answers on. The X-factor production manager didn't just accept this and got Oliver back into the show at the TV finals where he joined to sing Queen's: The show must go on! This resulted in so much storm on youtube and media that Oiver was  contacted shortly afterward by super producer/songwriter Søren Andersen that is part owner of the well known Medley Studios in Copenhagen.....

 Summer 2008 Søren Andersen and Oliver are recording Oliver Weers first solo Album. Oliver has signed a record deal with Target Records for this album. And this will with no doubt be the most advance production in his career and to make sure about it he has hired in drummer legend Tommy Alrdrige who amongst many others has played for  Ozzy Osbourne and Whitesnake and bassist Marco Mendoza who has also played with Whitesnake and many other big bands like Thin Lizzy, Blue Murder. ....

The Solo Album will be called "Get Ready" and the release date is: September 2008. ....
