LAIKA DOG ... Featuring Terrorvision frontman TONY WRIGHT the band was formed on a high Yorkshire moor top. Tony, Paddy and Sim were building dry stone walls and thought it would be a good idea and a warmer past time to form a band and play the tunes they had been inspired to write. Met up with Parry a week later and got the band started. Tony - still a waller Paddy- joiner Sim - electrician Parry- labourer. Even if you don't like the tunes they're handy to have around.

Eureka Machines  ... A collision of riotous rock, punk energy and orchestrated heavy metal guitars welded to solid vocals, a regiment full of harmonies and the pummelling power of bass and guitars with no gimmicks, no intellectual pretension, just straightforward, head for the central nervous system guitar pop

The Rocket Dolls ... barbed wire chewing, razor blade spitting three-piece post-grunge riff-metal outfit

Skeleton Crew ... The fusion of classic British rock in bands such as Whitesnake, Judas Priest, Iron Maiden and Thunder with the unmistakable AOR/glam sounds of Guns N Roses, Motley Crue and Bon Jovi

There is never a good excuse for cancelling a gig really unless it is due to impossible circumstance. I like the phrase 'get out of the kitchen'.

...Yep I know.....It wasn't us. We just write the tunes get in the van and play to you lot but unfortunately there is a thing calle dthe music business and today it has mainly been cancelling bands.....
Hope anyone who was going can make it to one near by and we will see you there...

Okedokee monkey folkees,

I know that it is available now but we are looking to give the Monkey Song a bit of a push out there. To do this we are declaring Feb 11th to be Monkey Song day. It would be great if the monkey masses got together and told the world there is a Monkey Song out there for the taking but for now let us celebrate and if you can find it in your monkey hearts support.

Well howdee y'all?

Just a quick blog to say thanks to y'all who managed to get out and support the Dog over the last week or so. It was great to meet you all and have a dance and a pint. We had a fantastic night as always at Riffs and the hospitality nearly always hospitalises us but we survived to play the Junction in our old capital of York. Another crackin' venue with a crackin' crowd of folk out there supporting live music and rock'n'roll in general. Just after the Junction turn south to Manchester and a very intimate little gig upstairs in the Attic. The name should've given us the clue and the requests to use some of our gear also as that means someone else can get the stuff upstairs. But once upstairs we played our attic in Manchester set and it was just like you'd all come to our house for a gig. So we had something for everyone and all occasions.

Paddy flew in for the last gig. Turned up with the sunglasses on and everything to play Milton Keynes. We weren't headlining so it was on early and then to the bar. Great stuff and we get to watch too. We ran out of cds' at the end which was nice and got home this morning wondering whether or not to do a throughy for the morning football...I slept in with my best intentions. Thanks again and sorry if we didn't get close enough for everyones hometown gig but like the littlest Hobo off the tele (another dog) we just keep rollin' on...'Maybe tomorrow la da de da de daaaa' you know the rest. See you all soon....

Laika Dog

CD - Mercury

Play 90 second soundbite of 'Getaway' @ 'CD quality'

Laika Dog is the brainchild of Tony Wright (ex Terrorvision); back to light up your day with his extremely honest and homely brand of infectious rock'n'roll in the form of the album 'Mercury'.

I admit that, initially, I didn't quite know whether I liked this album or not. But, that uncertainty was quickly dispelled and I found myself being swept along in Laika Dog's musical wake. Laika Dog have a looseness that's both charming and very appealing; they sound like a band on a mission but still a little unsure of what they actually want to achieve. Now, that's not a bad thing and Laika Dog get it nicely together and there's more than a touch of intrigue about them and their music. They've put some pretty awesome tracks together between them here even though, initially, it does tend to sound a bit of a mish-mash - but somehow they get there in the end and make it work.

Their approach here seems to have been to try to give the listener something that's accurate and true to type - a touch of musical reality at a time when so much of what we hear is generated through studio gimmickry and techno wizardry; Laika Dog do it with musical expression and feeling rather than through mouse clicking and over-engineering - it feels real, genuine and pretty 'ballsy'. And, Laika Dog rock without having to blast your ear drums out (although, turn it up to max vol and they'll certainly melt some ear wax!). Refreshingly, there's an underlying subtlety to their work which allows each component part of the whole to be heard and enjoyed for what it is.

Listening to 'Mercury' by Laika Dog is a bit like walking into a pawnshop and finding a hidden gem! So come in, look around and see if you don't walk away with something quite unexpected but musically 'valuable'! 'Mercury' by Laika Dog is a nicely balanced and well rounded work - refreshingly raw, inherently gripping and pretty much unputdownable!

Laika Dog

Album:Mercury
Label:10410 Records
Tony Wright(Terrorvision), has a new band, Laika Dog, and a desire to take rock back towards it's r'n'b roots. With "Mercury" he's done just that. Blues licks find their way in and amongst the power chords. Song based rock that relies on the songs and music to make the statements rather than pose. It's bubbling with energy and power. "Mercury", like the metal it's named after, is heavy and fluid, it's a weighty proposition that will probably end up killing you, but it's also bright and silver, it's unmistakeable, down to earth entertainment that's true to it's origins.

Albums seen

In the absence of much literary traffic in my postbox, I'll take the time to plug a few CDs that I'm very happy to have been sent in the last week-and-a-bit:

  • Mercury by Laika Dog - Laika Dog are the current band of ex-Terrorvision frontman Tony Wright, arguably the most earnest and affable man in British rock music during the nineties. Laikadog aren't quite so rocky as Terrorvision, but if you like Tony's songwriting, you'll not be disappointed by this at all.

Getaway..:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

Strappy sandals and cigarettes,

Sun tan cream and the smell of sweat,

Got me here on a charter jet,

Roll me over cos' I ain't done yet,

Roll me over cos' I ain't done yet,

Roll me over cos' I ain't done yet,

Roll me over cos' I ain't done yet,

Roll me over cos' I ain't done yet,

On holiday,

I get away,

I get away,

Oh yeah, olay, olay,

I've got to change my situation and get me on vacation and get away,

Olay, olay,

Start off blue I go white then red,

The sun and alchohol go straight to my head,

Roll me over I'm in the Med,

Rollin' over in a strangers bed,

Roll me over cos' I ain't done yet,

Roll me over cos' I ain't done yet,

Roll me over cos' I ain't done yet,

Roll me over cos' I ain't done yet,

On holiday,

I get away,

I get away,

Oh yeah, olay, olay,

I've got to change my situation and get me on vacation and get away,

Olay, olay,

Burger bars for days and days,

No room to spare just a vacant gaze,

Take me back to those better days,

Take me back in a blurry haze,

Take me home cos' I think I'm done,

Take me home cos' I think I'm done,

Take me home cos' I think I'm done,

Take me home to recover from…

My holiday,

I get away,

I get away,

Oh yeah, olay, olay,

I've got to change my situation and get me on vacation and get away,

Olay, olay,

Best Learning Curve.

I was het up, I was pent up, Trapped with no escape,

Cos' you ain't going nowhere son you're mine for keepers sake,

So I pushed you here, you cut me there,

I sucked your blood and you pulled my hair,

We fought in the water we rolled in the mud,

Some of it was funny and some of it was good.

The best learning curve,

Has got to be your smile,

It shows me real love,

Teaches me it's all worth while,

When I can't sleep at night not knowing what tomorrow brings,

I just turn out the light and hope eternal always springs,

To tell me how things should've been,

Tells me how things could've been,

Oh if life been different would've been,

Now I've got to wait and see,

The best learning curve,

Has got to be your smile,

It shows me real love,

Teaches me it's all worth while,

I went to school,

Learnt two and two is four,

Fat lot of use to me once I walked out of the door,

I never got to stop folk starving,

I never got to stop the war,

So why the hell would I want to hang around here for,

The best learning curve,

Has got to be your smile,

It shows me real love,

Teaches me it's all worth while,

Forever and a Day

He works hard,

He's honest,

He does a good days work,

Does unto others,

The things we like to see when we get things done,

Give and take,

Never break,

Your manners and respect,

Mix 'em together,

Stir it up,

And what do you get?

You get a victim,

You get easy prey,

A fucking fool,

Forever and a day,

And he worked hard,

He worked hard,

Just to be told he never worked hard enough,

And he paid every day,

And he paid in every way just to be told he never paid enough,

By the way you never saved enough,

Does that make him a victim,

Is he easy prey,

A fucking fool,

Forever and a day,

I hope I'm not a victim I hope and pray,

I hope I'm not a victim I hope and pray,

I hope I'm not a victim I hope and pray,

Monkey Song

Hey you, you taught me all that I knew although you'd never, never, never believe it,

With your simple ways and that far away gaze some kind of superhuman, just my mate,

Well look at you now, you're all made up,

You're all made up, so we look at you now,

Cos' your looking kinda' funky,

With an attitude so chunky,

You've got to be in,

When you're so far out, shout,

Hey you, you taught me all that I knew although you'd never, never, never believe it,

With your simple ways and that far away gaze some kind of superhuman, just my mate,

Well you've always had that sense of real high power,

From the top of the trees, To the top of the towers,

Eating all the finest berries and leaves for hours after hours after hours,

It's never going to change,

Hey you, you taught me all that I knew although you'd never, never, never believe it,

With your simple ways and that far away gaze some kind of superhuman, just my mate,

Well is it time for a change,

Is it more of the same,

Over and over again,

Sometimes I'm glad the song remains the same,

Hey you, you taught me all that I knew although you'd never, never, never believe it,

With your simple ways and that far away gaze some kind of superhuman, just my mate,

Piano Song

By the time I got back home you'd already left,

I could tell by the way the place didn't seem such a mess,

Cos' it was easy to find your note,

Hard to read what you wrote,

Some lame excuse about it being for the best,

By the time I got you rletter well you'd gone,

You'd be somewhere down that road you were travelling on,

And by the time I saw your words,

Reda things we'd both said but neither of us heard,

You didn't have to write every wrong,

Well I really must confess,

It would only be a guess,

If I said I know more or less about what's around the corner,

I'll hold my hands up be the first to say,

I couldn't tell you yesterday,

Cos' I've never known what's going to happen tomorrow,

Because if I could read the future,

The past wouldn't have been like that,

Cos' I would've planned ahead and made my bed accordingly,

And if I could book that ticket,

That would open up my eyes,

So I could realise the prize that's right infront of me,

Well I really must confess,

It would only be a guess,

If I said I know more or less about what's around the corner,

I'll hold my hands up be the first to say,

I couldn't tell you yesterday,

All the things that matter

All the things that matter,

All the things that see me through,

Does it make the world go around,

Does it make the earth it move,

Well does it really matter,

Does it really see me through,

Does it make the world go around,

Or it make the earth it move,

I could think of a million reasons why,

I could never,

let you down now,

Hold you back now in life,

Watch us change,

See us grow,

And let us entwine,

Stick together,

Going grey,

You're the foremost on my mind, Oh yeah!

All the things that matter,

All the things that see me through,

Does it make the world go around,

Does it make the earth it move,

Well does it really matter,

Does it really see me through,

Does it make the world go around,

Or it make the earth it move,

I could bring up a couple of more reason why,

We should step right up,

We should dig in our heels,

Try to toe the line,

Bridge the gap,

Sinister Dexter stroll on happily,

Get in step,

Bare your soul,

For all of us to see, Oh yeah!

All the things that matter,

All the things that see me through,

Does it make the world go around,

Does it make the earth it move,

Well does it really matter,

Does it really see me through,

Does it make the world go around,

Or it make the earth it move,

I like the shoes and the shows,

The perfumes and clothes and the way you wear your hair,

I like to stand in the wind,

Drive in open top things,

Blowing everywhere,

Oh yeah, the way you wear your hair.

All the things that matter,

All the things that see me through,

Does it make the world go around,

Does it make the earth it move,

Well does it really matter,

Does it really see me through,

Does it make the world go around,

Or it make the earth it move,

Frost

I'm from a place called Cynical,

It's in the state of Pesimism,

There my family had dared to vote optimistically,

Today we're visiting Dad,

In prison,

Politically I'm angry,

Mentally unstable,

Religiously in anarchy,

Emotionally unable,

To lay my cards out on the table,

Yet I'm so ready and so willing so able,

You can read it on my label,

He said leave town never ever come back,

That's my advice,

From me to you now son,

And he warned me of a place called opportunity,

Where the sun will never set,

Not if you're gifted or your blessed,

If you're neither the above,

Well then you're damned just like the rest,

Politically you'll be angry,

Mentally unstable,

Religiously in anarchy,

Emotionally unable,

To lay my cards out on the table,

Yet I'm so ready and so willing so able,

You can read it on my label,

Never lest we forget,

That I want never gets,

But if you don't ask, guess what? You bet,

Life will pass you by,

And all of that blood tears and sweat,

Have turned into years of regret,

Don't you worry don't fret,

Just don't let it pass you by,

Politically we'll be angry,

Mentally unstable,

Religiously in anarchy,

Emotionally unable,

To lay my cards out on the table,

Yet I'm so ready and so willing so able,

You can read it on my label,

No Bother

He said the skies never up,

He said the grounds never down,

He said the earth is kinda flat,

It's never round and around,

Something has to change,

Something has to give,

Cos' his brain is a drain and his mind is the sieve,

But no bother,

He's no bother to me,

No bother,

No bother to me,

Well he tried this religion and retail therapy,

He even caught him meditating,

He was hugging on a tree,

Someone's got to tell him,

Got to whisper in his ear,

All the things he's heard before but never loud and clear,

But why bother,

And why you bothering me,

Why bother,

Why you bothering me,

But we always look on the downside,

It's half emptyit's never half full,

Cos' we're well strapped in for the rough ride,

Pushing against everyones pull,

Yes we're pushing against everyones pull,

Where you get there quick, they're fresh out of the oven,

Grab all that you can man, It's cheaper by the dozen,

Out of the frying pan and into the fire,

I swear on my life said the thief to liar,

Now you're bothering me,

And your lies,

Your lies are bothering me

Hard to Explain

I find it hard to explain the way I feel about you,

I find it hard to explain the way I feel deep inside,

I find it hard to contain my raw emotions,

I find it hard to restrain, so I run away and hide,

I'm not drowning in a sea of endless explanations,

Weighed down by weaker excuse,

Find it hard to retain these thoughts about you,

I'm struggling to tame the way I| feel deep inside,

Running through my veins, myself not no-one,

I find it hard to explain so I slip and I slide,

I'm not drowning in a sea of endless explanations,

Weighed down by weaker excuse,

Would you believe what you mean to me?

How am I to say?

You to me you're the air that I breathe,

Yeah, your more than the stars in the sky,

Escape me every time, the words I want to say to you,

You to me you're everything,

You're the Earth and the Sun and the Moon,

You're the Earth and the Sun and the Moon,

I'm drowning in a sea of endless explanations,

Weighed down by weaker excuse,

I'm drowning in a sea of endless explanations,

Weighed down by weaker excuse,

Just Lately

Just lately, lately all the time,

What's mine is yours, all eyes on you,

Time is slowing, it's slowing all the time,

All the time it's all eyes on who?

Waiting for the baby,

Waiting to see who it is we'll see,

Passing the time till a time when we'll find,

Who it is that we'e about to meet,

Will their eyes, be brown, blue or green?

Will they look like you, will they look like me?

Will their hair be dark or blonde?

Will they go to sleep with a lullaby song?

Waiting for the baby,

Waiting to see who it is we'll see,

Passing the time till a time when we'll find,

Who it is that we're about to meet,

Just maybe, maybe one of these days,

Maybe one of these times,

Maybe sometime soon,

Time will stop as it's stopping all the time,

What's mine is yours and what's yours is mine,

Waiting for the baby,

Waiting to see who it is we'll see,

Passing the time till a time when we'll find,

Who it is that we're about to meet,
